Do not recommend eating the Mac salad! It was so disgusting I had to spit out 1st bite! Can’t comment on any of the other food but should have known it wasn’t going to be tasty when I walked in at prime dinner time and the place was empty.

Been going there for five yrs now. It’s been going down hill. The rice is over powering the plates now and is watery, the famous macaroni is maybe a tablespoon now. Pinapple chicken has no flavor. the spicy shrimp and beef is spicy but not as good as it use to be. Becoming a sad, sad little place.

Wow… So bad. My wife got the short ribs and they were way past well done and tasted like the meat was left over from the day before. I got the pineapple chicken which had way, way too much sauce on it– imagine Panda Express Orange Chicken with 10x the sauce. Maybe we just picked two duds and they have better food, but we’re not willing to find out.

if I could leave a one word review, it would be «meh…» but I can’t so as an x Hawaiian, I can say this place is well below the already low expectations I set for«Hawaiian plate lunch».

Oh please! Don’t call it a Hawaiian food joint if the food is nothing close to it! I’m from the Pacific and I know my island food, so this one falls way deep down the list of bad foods for me. It falls deeper than the damn Marianas trench! Alright, my rant here is done. Maybe I’m overreacting but to each is own I guess.

Literally the worst meal I have ever had. I recommended my buddy and I try it out after a round of golf. It took at least 20 minutes to get it(luckily the décor was so horrible we were able to make fun of it all and time flew by until we got our meal) I got the loco moco, and I’m not exaggerating when I say the meat tasted like they ordered the patties from McDonald’s, froze them, and then microwaved them 3 months later for my meal. The meat was gray… I’m ashamed I finished as much as I did. I would not even bring it home for my dog to eat afterwards. PLEASEAVOIDTHISPLACELIKETHEPLAGUE!!! Also, my friends«chicken» yakisoba actually looked like red meat and was super tough. I’m convinced it was rat.

How this place is busy, I find incomprehensible. It must have been good at some point and now it is really a culinary nightmare… we ordered chicken yakisoba… and kalbi(beef short ribs). I requested the ribs this way: «Please DON´T overcook them. Medium rare. Okay?». Woman says okay. 25 minutes went past. The yakisoba´s chicken was puddling in greasy and sugary teriyaki sauce. The short ribs were charred to a leathery crisp. So– to avoid miscommunication any further– the exchange now continued in Spanish: — I asked you to not overcook them. They are inedible. — Well, he was busy, so I didn´t tell him(!). — Okay. What is ready, now? — The chicken, but that is also overcooked(!!) — Chicken can be well-done. Steak doesn´t… never mind, give me some chicken please. No sauce. Another 10 minutes go by. I mime«what happened?» from my table. — He´s making a new dish. We had to throw the other one.- she shouts from behind the counter. I leave my table and come to the counter. — I thought you said the chicken was ready. — Yeah, but we have to do everything else again… The cook came out with another overcooked(but not charred) kalbi set, on top of my previously served rice and vegetables. — I thought I had ordered chicken now. Cook: — Kalbi´s marinade makes the meat overcooked. So that´s how it is.(!!) Gross… DON´T WASTEYOURMONEY(however cheap this might be) and get some better quality Polynesian grilled food at 203 E. Main St. instead.

Absolutely horrible. We got a beef and chicken combo, and a shrimp fried rice. It was all old and nasty, dried up like it was microwaved. I love Hawaiian plate lunch and so Roxy’s and Bamboo Grove are my PDX benchmarks. This stuff was so nasty we decided to not even take it to our dogs less they get stomach worms. Avoid at all cost!

This food was of such low quality. As a Polynesian who devours hawaiian food on a constant basis, this is the first hawaiian place in Oregon that I found absolutely disgusting! Please save yourselves the loss of money and purchase elsewhere.

Really bland food here. You don’t get the cultural feel from the experience at all, in other words, I could make this at home. I appreciate a dive, don’t get me wrong, but there is no way I could eat in that place. I had to take it home. It has a really musty smell. I’m not one to pick at décor, but come on — a dusty poster of Ray Allen from the 90’s. Save yourself the trip.

Cheap food. Cheap quality. Not sure why it took so long to prepare my order. It clearly tastes like the food was microwaved. Not the best mac salad. The people working there werent even hawaiian. I dont think its very authentic. Definitely a restaurant you dont have to try.

Not sure what has happened here, maybe new owners. Over salted, dry and hard pieces of the Kalua pork made me think they were trying to use up days old food. My previous experiences here have been great. Whenever I’m out in Hillsboro I usually stop here, I’ll give them another shot but this visit was a big disappointment.

Wow there are a lot of hoity toity poor people on this review board! What do you expect from a $ 7 meal? White glove service? Nah, make more money. Anyways, this place is a hole in the wall, sure, but the food is AMAZING. I ordered the dang hot chicken in medium. Such good value, a lot of food in portion too. My new favorite place to eat in Hillsboro.

I decided to give this place a try last month and now I’m addicted. I’ve been here at least 4 – 5 times this month alone. I come for the Mac salad and stay for the Teri chicken! My boyfriend tried the dang hot chicken and was sweating bullets. He said wow I should have gotten mild. Haha anyway my only complaint? They don’t give enough Mac salad on the side. Otherwise GREAT!

So I am up for trying new and when my hubby said a friend of h is recommended this place, I was more than happy to give it a try. In the restaurant, you walk up to the counter and order, then sit to wait for your food. There were some booths, tables and a picture menu on the wall as well as a printed menu next to it. No one wasat the counter and for a couple minutes, no one showed. I would have thought that the place was closed if it wasn’t for the fact that it was prime dinner time and there was a couple dining in one of the booths. The décor was kind of… lacking…but I love these kinds of places, most of the time, that’s where amazing food is made. Unfortunately, that isn’t the case here. I ordered the pork kalua and chicken combo plate, my husband had the beef and chicken combo plate. I thought the pork was a little bland and soggy. The beef was the pork’s opposite, a bit too salty and overcooked/dry…the only thing that was pretty good was the teriyaki chicken… but there was nothing special about it that set it apart from other teriyaki chickens. The macaroni salad was ok as well. A good thing about this place is that the portions are huge. It wasnt horrible, its still tasty… i just was wanting to be wowed. Anyway, I really wanted to love this place… Maybe we ordered the wrong thing, or they were having an off night. I am willing to try it again.

3.5 star cume is about right — - but service was good, and the guy gave me a complimentary bottle o’ soda, so that’s an easy bump up to 4 stars right there. Scanning the other reviews, I have to say I agree with many of the pros and cons pointed out. Namely: you get huge portions for the price, almost guaranteed take home goodies to enjoy later. The pork and and chicken were both quite moist tender and tasty. Also, they offer the glorious Loco-Moco, which is a litmus test for me, for any so-called Hawaiian eatery. They also offer spam musubi, another litmus test, but I have to say the one I tried here wasn’t memorable. I have a fear and loathing and love-hate relationship w/Hawaiian style Mac Salad. It’s one of the worst foods in the world, health wise, about the only thing you could do to make it worse would be to deep-fry it, and I’m surprised no one has tried that, yet. On the other hand, when it’s made right, it is SO creamy and tasty and yummy, and such a fantastic complement to any classic protein and rice-heavy Hawaiian meal. At any rate, I usually try to avoid the sinister mac salad on my plate, and occasionally allow myself one bite. Or two. Or three… Hawaiian Grill’s mac salad was surprisingly bad, given how good they did their meats. i didn’t even finish half a bite of the mac salad, and I guess for that, I should actually thank Hawaiian Grill. The Gods of Diabetes will not be put off forever, especially when you insist on continually taunting them… My entire group liked their food, and we will definitely be back. Mahalo, H.G. Hasta pronto, boys!

This place was… a-ok. I wasn’t blown away to be honest, even though I was totally read to be after reading all the reviews. I drive by the place on daily basis and would not have even noticed it if not for Unilocal. So that says a lot about the outside, not that I’m one to judge a book by it’s cover(unless it’s 50 Shade of Grey and then JUDGEAWA). It’s very sparsely decorated inside and the menu has scribbles/lines/white spots all over it. It’s not about looks though, it’s about the food! Igot myself the chicken shoyu meal, waited about 6 – 7 minutes and was out the door with my meal. The portion was very reasonable(lots of food like people say below me). I’m more used to shoyu shredded up, and I was greeted with hunks of chicken to be cut apart. Oh well. The shoyu itself was just… too sweet! I know, it’s supposed to be sweet but this was just too much for even myself. The mac salad was meh, not bad nor good. I’ll give this place another try since people enjoy the teriyaki but Roxy’s owns me for any time I want some shoyu.

The Hawaiian Grill ain’t bad. It’s a nice choice for something different in downtown Hillsboro. It’s just that… I’ve been to Maui, and I’ve been to a certain other«Grill» that serves the same style of food, and they do it so, so much better. THG covers every Hawaiian dish under the sun, which is both good and bad. The good is, well, you can get any traditional Hawaiian plate lunch here. The bad is that they don’t do any of them particularly well. I’ve had the shoyu chicken, their«dang hot» chicken, teryiaki beef, Kalua pork and even Portugese sausage. They’re all just okay. The mac salad is terrible. I think it’s noodles, some mayo and just a few shakes of pepper. The rice isn’t very good either; it doesn’t even approach the sticky texture of a traditional plate lunch. I do like the fact that they offer $ 5 «mini plates» now. Prior to these, purchasing a $ 7 to $ 9 entrée meant a giant to-go box with a seemingly endless pile of whatever protein option you chose. It was way, way too much for a single serving. The mini plate option is less than half the meat you get in a regular plate. It doesn’t compare from a value standpoint, but it will make you feel less guilty. 1 star for being in Hillsboro, 1 star for the concept(and the food, I suppose) and a final star for carrying Hawaiian Sun juice. That’s about as generous as I’m feeling.
