Northwest Tree Specialists is dedicated to helping you care for your landscape trees. We are tree care experts! Our strategy is proactive with an emphasis on tree health and vitality.

We offer no-​cost consultations to determine your tree care needs and design these to fit within your budget. Our services range from routine pruning for health, safety and aesthetic purposes, to more specialized pruning designed to target specific needs such as increased production for fruit bearing trees or crown reduction when trees are growing into structures or blocking views. Other services include tree removals, stump grinding and specialized treatments to target insect and disease issues.

Established in 2005.

Northwest Tree Specialists is a locally owned and operated professional, nationally accredited tree care company serving the Portland-​Metro and Vancouver areas. Our teams of skilled and efficient crews are trained in all aspects of tree care from routine tree pruning to large and complex tree removals. We are a full service company providing in-​house tree health care services including our 100% organic Compost Tea.

We are a licensed, bonded and insured tree company and are accredited by the Tree Care Industry Association (TCIA) which is an honor held by only a few tree companies on Oregon. We have 5-​ISA Certified Arborists, 3-​Certified Tree Risk Assessors, 2-​Certified Treecare Safety Professionals and 1-​Municipal Specialist on staff.

We have over 8,000 satisfied residential, commercial and municipal customers and are committed to servicing the needs of our clients and delivering exceptional service. We have received Angie’s List Super Service Award each year since 2007.

Northwest Tree Specialists cut down two ash trees we had in our front yard. The person who provided us with the quote was knowledgeable and did not try to sell us on any additional services. We asked for advice on a few things, and he was able to provide his opinion (and not in a way to upsell us). The company’s quote seemed fair and was comparable to others we had received. Because we liked the person who provided the quote, we hired them. They cut down our trees in a quick and efficient manner.
The only downside was that they provided us a date they would come, but did not provide a time or range of time. They also left us a voicemail ahead of the appointment to confirm the day (but did specify a time). They ended up arriving to cut down the trees at 7:45AM. This was not a problem because my wife works from home, but it could present a problem for someone else who needs a time frame to be home and available.
The company was professional, knowledgeable, and did good work. I would use them again and would recommend them to others.

I called NW Tree Specialist earlier this month to get an estimate on a tree removal. They came on time and gave a reasonable estimate for the removal and also for trimming another tree. They also looked at other trees, made suggestions on possible work, but no hard sell. I agreed to the estimate, they were able to come within a couple of days to take down the tree and trim the other.
I was not home when they did the work. The work was done as requested and the clean up was immaculate.
I would recommend their services without reservation.

I have not hired this company to care for my trees. But I was driving on 84 east when I braked for slowed traffic ahead. A staff member of this company in a company truck behind me had to quickly swerve onto the shoulder to avoid hitting my car. We then both exited at the 33rd Ave exit, intending to make a left. I was in the far left lane, he was behind me. Our light was red, the two way street of 33rd was green. After a few moments he pulled out from behind me, into the middle lane, which was also a left turn lane to turn onto 33rd. While the light was red, he just made a left hand turn across the first lane and onto 33rd, against the light while the rest of us waited. Completely blew a red light, making a left hand turn from the middle lane. The first move stressed me out to watch a big truck behind me swerve to avoid bashing into me. The second move was arrogant, impatient and showed little regard for anyone else. Not a good first impression, therefore not someone I would want taking care of the trees at my home.

I have not had a lot of contact with Northwest Tree Specialists even though they do a lot of work for the company I work for. However, that all changed this past week when I worked at a heavily-​wooded property near Milwaukie on the banks of Johnson Creek. They came out and took down quite a large old cottonwood tree that had the wind blown it onto one of the buildings would have done some pretty fair damage. I was able to watch the process throughout the day from my office window and it was done with real care and precision. Their crew was excellent and very easy to work with when they came into the office. Their chipper truck was fascinating. They also removed a couple of old dead trees from Johnson Creek that had started to act as a dam. Again, fascinating to watch, and now we know that the creek won’t flood due to taking care of those old dead trees so well. Thanks, Northwest Tree Specialists, for a job well done.

I can’t stand companies that come out and you tell them what you want, and then they send completely different people out, often non-​english speaking, to do the job. NW Tree Specialists did not do what we asked and essentially butchered our beautiful, mature Japanese Maple tree. It began to die within the year, and has now completely died and been removed. I would not recommend Northwest Tree Specialists.

I have some very large fir trees in my backyard and I was worried about some loose earth surrounding the largest one. I wasn’t sure if a root was pulling loose creating a dangerous situation.
I called and asked for a quick appointment and Rick was able to come out the next day in 9am.
He was right on time, very professional and courteous and sized up the situation.
Bottom line, he said it was probably a gopher and he said not to worry.
Charge? Zero.
Great service, polite and honest. I like these guys!!!

The developer for my neighborhood planted fast growing, non-​native trees with invasive roots 15 years ago. The tree roots are starting to damage our foundations.
I have used NW Tree Specialists a few times to prune trees, large bushes and remove one old tree with invasive roots They also ground the stump a few weeks later. They do good work at a reasonable price, and I plan to use them again to remove another tree with invasive roots. I then replace the trees with native trees, with non invasive roots. I live on Beaverton, and the city has a long list of carious size trees to pick from.

Called a week in advance to make an appointment to get a bid to have two oak trees removed. I was scheduled for Gary to come out on Saturday at noon. At 12:20 he still wasn’t there and I hadn’t received a phone call. The main office was closed when I called them and a little after 12:30 he arrived. No sorry for being late or mention of traffic, just asked where the trees were and off.
He walked to the back yard and without even measuring the trees spat out a quote over $ 700 higher than 2 other licensed and bonded well reviewed arborists in the area. I asked for a written and he mentioned he could draw up the contract at his truck. Not wanting to «seal the deal» and get ripped off I declined and had it emailed.
In my opinion, as long as the tree is removed, the property is not damaged, and the time quoted is accurate, then there is no difference in who you use.
I do not recommend using NW Tree Specialist without getting at least 2 other quotes first. Don’t get ripped off and don’t allow contractors to be rude and disrespectful of your time.

I highly recommend this company. They were very professional from start to finish. They got all the necessary permissions to remove some very large trees from the greenspace abutting our home, kept us posted on their progress, scheduled easily and showed up when they said they would. These guys were intelligent, knowledgeable, good communicators and courteous. They cleaned up when the job was done and followed up a week later with a phone call and then offered to come out to clean up some dead limbs on the remaining trees which were exposed after the two big trees came down at no additional cost to us. They were comparable in price to the other two bids we got and very easy to deal with. In fact, the proof that they are not out just to get your money is the fact that when they performed the work and we went to pay them, they said they would just bill us in a few days. I hope the remaining trees behind our house thrive, but if I ever needed any others removed, I would definitely hire them again.

Great service by the entire crew, from the estimate to the final clean up. Priced very reasonably and cheaper than most, didn’t suggest trimming other trees in the yard that didn’t need pruning.
Extra star for them replacing a section of lattice that was «crushed» by a limb coming down, although the lattice wasn’t in the best shape to begin with so any minor touching/​scraping would have probably destroyed it anyway. Said they’d be back in a few days to fix it and they did.
Highly recommended to anyone else out there.

I did read the great reviews and then called Northwest Tree Service and they delivered on the promise! Came out quickly and quoted me and I found it to be far more reasonable that I was expecting. Offered to break up the bill into three payments which really helps the budget and they took care of removing three dead trees, trimmed four other giants and removed all the debri, except the good firewood which they stacked neatly in a corner and made me a happy camper. I’ll be back … I have a lot of trees.

The service provided by Northwest Tree Specialists is absolutely superior! All interactions were professional, work was completed on time and exactly as was discussed. There was follow-​up to insure I was totally satisfied. I wish all service providers were this fantastic. To top all that-​out of the four quotes I received for the work I needed done (all of which were highest ranked on Unilocal/angie’s) NTS was actually the least expensive! I would recommend them to everyone. Save yourself the hassle of multiple bids-​I don’t think you can expect better than NTS.
(Work completed on my property-​removal of two trees, cutting back of low-​hanging branches, «topping» of a bamboo wall, stump removal.)

We’ve needed to have some work done on our trees for a while but have always hesitated because we are tree-​lovers and have worried most arborists would come in and cut more than needed just to make a buck. Then we found these guys who genuinely care about trees and much to our delight only recommended taking out one tree and pruning the rest. They were easy to work with and did a great job cleaning up. Highly recommended!

They beat the other company’s bid by 25% and I felt the cost was very reasonable! And they did a great job! They were on time, fairly quick to schedule and cleaned up after themselves. I was referred to NW Tree through my yard guy. He told me they did good work and could be trusted. Well, he was dead on. Nat came out and took a look at a couple tree’s that were of concern (one had split in half in a storm earlier in the year). He addressed my concern’s and did not use any hard sell or fear tactic’s. I then had him take a look at some other tree’s that need pruning. Nat was thorough, polite and professional. He got back to me that very day with a quote on doing the tree removal and clean up. I had to coordinate with my neighbor as one of the tree’s was on our property line. Nat followed up when appropriate and scheduled me for a few weeks out. His crew came out and in no time fell two tree’s and bucked them up for me. They left the site cleaner than they found it and were in and out in no time.
Bottom line, from start to finish this company is professional. They are priced very fair and follow through on promises. They will be getting more work from me in the future, and better, i will be singing their praises to my friends and family.

My wife used Unilocal in finding this arborist. Me being a traditionalist, wanted to use word of mouth/​recommendations, Better Business Bureau and reference CCB#‘s etc.
After getting three different quotes, and my wife being very patient to allow me to do my traditional research, we went with the original quote and services of NW Tree Specialist. Their quote was very competitive, they were always on time, called before hand, and services provided were very efficient. They even noticed some concerns to rectify about one tree that the other arborists quoting did NOT notice, which means NW Tree Specialist took time to look over the job prior to writing out a quote.
I even noticed the Garden Home Community Center using their services two weeks prior to my appointment, which was reassuring knowing a public entity has used and is using the same company.
Even if you have an arborist that you are loyal to and love, it’s well worth your time getting a quote from them.

I’m navigating traffic in Washington DC, just past the White House when I get a call from my neighbor… (on speaker of course). A third of my beautiful shade maple had detached from the tree and was currently crushing my garden and making moves on my neighbors fence. Ugh…
I head home a week later and am treated to a lengthy lecture from my retired neighbor on my tree’s issues suggesting that I seek help. With a sigh and a reluctant heart, I started seeking arborist recommendations. The very next day, NW Tree Specialists are out to examine the tree that I desperately want to save. A few minutes later, we’re roping the remaining two sections of the maple together in hopes of keeping the tree erect. Seriously. Like any parent, I was blind to my tree’s true issues. Sadly, the tree was scheduled for emergency removal the very next morning.
They provided a free consult, a very reasonable quote, quickly addressed the situation and the service was perfect. Everyone I spoke with was wonderful, especially Jeremy who kept me up-​to-​date throughout the process. You seriously can’t go wrong with this company.

Before NW Tree Specialists, I often woke up to the sound of my neighbor’s tree limbs brushing across the roof. In our back yard was a huge, gorgeous, ancient cherry tree that we really, really didn’t want to have to bring down, but it had big scary limbs hanging over the back of the house, and pieces of a long-​defunct tree house and swing that had turned into squirrel housing most closely resembling a noose and a gallows.
We had quotes from four different places, tried Angie’s list, and ended up choosing Northwest Tree Specialists through a word-​of-​mouth recommendation. They gave us an incredibly reasonable quote. They were personable and professional, and they came when they said they would come, and did what they said they would do.
They pruned with the trees’ health in mind, and respected our neighbors’ properties and trees. Boy, was I glad we got that done before the wind picked up this winter. And we got to keep our big cherry, sans gallows. I think the squirrels will understand.
