History

Established in 1993.

Hana Hou came to be here in Hilo, when Michele Zane-Faridi took her interest and eye for Hawaiian antiques and collectables from the 1930’s, 40’s, and 50’s and opened a little shop on Kilauea Avenue. Hana Hou, meaning Encore or «One more time» was the perfect venue to exchange and share the many goodies she had gathered and admired over the years. From Kilauea Avenue Hana Hou moved, making its home in a small space on Kalakaua Street. It was on Kalakaua Street that the store began to shift from collectables and towards her true passion in the arts, specifically fashion design, and handicrafts. Thus Hana Hou has evolved. Currently located right on bayfront’s Kamehameha avenue, the now mother and daughter team run Hana Hou showcasing a wide variety of clothing and accessories from throughout Oceania. With items like Ni’ihau shell jewelry, Lauhala bags, and Mena clothing, Hana Hou is where contemporary fashion meets tradition.
