When to Visit

Trails open year-​round, daily, sunrise to sunset. The barnyard is open seasonally only. Allow a minimum of 1 hour, 3 hours if also visiting Whitney and Thayer Woods. Call for information on educational programs.

Facilities

Seasonal portable toilet is located on grassy path at barnyard entrance. Please note that there is no access to barn buildings or barn parking lots except for special events or for purchasing eggs.

From the entrance at the top of Turkey Hill, a footpath meanders downhill through open fields and woods. At a fork in the trail, you can follow one path to the barnyard and visit with the horses, pigs, and chickens. The other path takes you across a grassy avenue before entering «The Grove,» woods with an open understory reminiscent of a British woodland.

This family-​friendly farm, one of the last farms in Hingham, will enthrall visitors with its own «family» of horses, pigs, cows, chickens, and sheep.

What makes Weir River Farm a special place?

Originally part of a picturesque, early-​20^th-​century country estate, Weir River Farm today is a 75-​acre working farm comprised of fields and pastures surrounded by oak and red cedar woodlands. The farm supports diverse wildlife habitats, including upland grasslands, which are in rapid decline in the Commonwealth. Weir River passes through the farm at its northwest edge.

From the trails on Weir River Farm, you can get to adjacent Whitney and Thayer Woods, whose trails are connected to those in Wompatuck State Park and the town’s Triphammer Conservation Area. This extensive trail network provides you with access to the largest contiguous tract of open space on the South Shore — nearly 5,000 acres in all.
