Animal Infirmary of Hoboken

Wish I had brought my dog here all these years instead of driving all the way out to Edgewater…
The staff here is fantastic, from the receptionists to the techs to the doctors. The feel of the hospital is very comfortable and not clinical like most places. I just started bringing my 12-​yr old boxer here about a month ago when her problems started. She’s had a number of emergencies in this short time, and we’ve seen several of the vets, who have all been great and very helpful. They are also very conscientious about following up on the pet’s status which is great. Even when the vets rotate and work at different locations, its easy to get them on the phone for questions.
Yes it costs money, but healthcare is expensive, even for pets, (it is after all, still science, technology and medicine). I’ve never found a cheap animal hospital, and would never want to take my dog to such a place. With every visit, the vets have been fully transparent and sensitive to the costs. They never administered a test they deemed unnecessary and when we once switched meds for her, we were able to return unfinished pills and get money back.
I just wish this hospital would offer home visits, as I’m sure Hoboken would benefit greatly from that type of service which isn’t very commonplace. Nonetheless, Animal Infirmary is extremely convenient as they require no scheduled appointments. I never had to wait more than 10 minutes to see a vet. They also have a small parking lot. I highly recommend this place.

I just got back from taking my cat there. They were closing 5 minutes after I called and the doctor said she didn’t mind staying until I got there to see if my cat needed stitches or staples. She treated him like her cat and didn’t rush through the exam or procedure because it was after hours. She was so caring and thoughtful and I was so sad he needed a staple that she really eased my fears and made sure he was comfortable. This place has consistently taken great care of my cat and even has an after hours phone service where a doctor is on call until 10pm in case anything pops up. Really great vet.

So great! They are super responsive via email. The vets and nurses were all super helpful and knowledgable.
We took our two dogs for a checkup and vaccines. :). Will be back!

Update since my first visit. My cat was diagnosed with diabetes after our first visit. Dr. Katz and Dr. McGuire have been taking care of her and guiding me through the process and are available to answer my phone calls with any questions any time. I couldn’t be happier with her care. There are many doctors on staff and every time we go I feel completely comfortable that they will do the best thing for my cats.

The staff and service was excellent. Took my dog their for a physical and was very pleased. Caring, gentle and knowledgable staff. Thank you.

A bit expensive, but I have never had a bad experience. I have also never waited very long for any type of service. I love the no appointment system. Every doctor has been really nice and helpful. The front staff is also polite and professional which is a welcome change from other places.

Horrible place. Extremely expensive and awful service. They only care about taking your money.

Dr. Tudor and Associates has THE BEST vet techs I’ve met. If this review was just for them, it would be five stars, easy. As for the doctors, though, it’s hit or miss.
I took my dog here because I noticed a lump on his hip. I got a young female doctor (I think it best not to mention her name) who told me it was «an old man wart.» I thought it odd, since my dog is 7, but was relieved. 6 months later, I went back since the lump had doubled in size. I was then told by another doctor that he did not think it was cancer or anything, but I had it biopsied anyway. I learned through a voicemail message the doctor left that it was a mast cell tumor. I asked him about specialists but was told it was not necessary.
Thanks to Dr. Ponce, who I do trust, my dog had a second surgery, which went well, and he is cancer free. But, there are now complications with his incision. My poor dog has been stitched three times and has run three courses of multiple increasingly powerful medicines. Whoever I see (a different doctor practically every time) seems to be trying to placate me, insisting it is a difficult area to stitch. I understand that, but we all knew that before, so why were no precautions taken? Not to mention when I ask a simple question like, «what is the recurrence rate?», they have to «look it up.» It seems to me they refuse to admit any fault, instead acting like it’s my fault by telling me over and over he has to wear his cone AT ALL TIMES (he does), and asking me how much exercise I am letting him get (minimal; my fiancé and I carry him to and from our third floor walkup all day so he won’t tear his stitches). Anyway, the poor thing hasn’t run or played for three weeks now and has neck irritation from having the cone constantly on.
Bottom line, they’re great at basic stuff, if overpriced, and they’re generally friendly and caring. But for anything serious, see a specialist. You can’t possibly pay more and you’ll know you’ve got someone experienced.

Took our new puppy yesterday for his first check up and it was a great experience from beginning to end!
Quality of Care: top notch! Dr. Schwartz performed a thorough exam of my pup and answered all of our questions with great information. She was not pushy with vaccines and or extras. She asked us about our lifestyle (are we outdoors type? Etc) and then said, «these are the shots I recommend.» We met with her for more than 40 minutes and she gave us some great advice on how to care for our puppy’s health. The vet tech who assisted helped keep him calm and happy too!
The reception area was super clean, we were registered immediately and brought into the exam room within 5 minutes. Everyone we met was super friendly.
Cost: I was a bit hesitant to come here based on reviews about the prices, but I took a chance anyway. The price of the examination was not terribly priced! Only slightly higher than what I’ve paid in the past at other vets. (plus it’s Hoboken, everything here is slightly overpriced)
Overall I am very happy we brought our little guy here and recommend this place to anyone looking for a Vet!
Plus they have PARKING!

My boyfriend and I just adopted a kitten and weren’t sure where to take her to the vet. We’ve never owned a pet in Hoboken before. We found Animal Infirmary through friends and have had an amazing experience from the start. Every person from receptionist to vet has been wonderful to work with and they’ve provided the best care for our kitty, Kona. Dr. Snarski is fantastic. On our first visit he was extremely patient and informative and put up with tons of our questions. He is always so nice and understanding, taking the time to explain everything in detail and presenting options for how to handle situations. He doesn’t just tell us one way that would end up costing a fortune. Everyone who works there is gentle and loving to Kona, They always all come out to snuggle and play with her! Quality vet and a fantastic experience.

I went in yesterday because my dog has been having constipation and diarrhea …$ 518 later and ‘he is fine’
Granted he got some shots and tests done, but a vet bill should NEVER be this high for a check up. I have had my dog for 5 years now and have never had a bill this high!!! When he was a puppy, he was put under anesthesia and had three or four teeth pulled, a cleaning and it STILL wasn’t this high. maybe around the same price but definitely not more.
I also asked how much teeth cleaning was here. for my 13.5 pound dog it would be anywhere from $ 800– over $ 1,000!!! This is insane, I just got a quote from another vet for $ 268.
If you want to be taken advantage of, this is the place to go!
Clean facility, well trained staff, but absolutely not worth the price! I have peace of mind now, but an empty wallet!!!

I just wanted to take the time out to give this place a great review. I love how once you walk-​in there right there with a smile on there face that lights up a room. I also love how I was the first as a pet owner and breeder of an American Bully and to give them info and knowledge on what is an American bully. This place isn’t like any other vet they get right to your pets problem without doing unnecessary test which made me happy that there not money hungry like some places are. they have great doctors and a great staff that can help you with any questions or concerns you might have for loved ones… I own 4 different American bullies and I am looking forward to do more business with them. Only positive things to say about the doctors and staff of Hoboken Animal Infirmary. Always the best care and service. Keep up the good work!

Staff is great, and I’ve never had to wait long. Seriously expensive, though. I’ve never had to bring a cat here for an illness, so I can’t comment on that. But for routine vaccines and spay/​neuter, there are better options out there. For example: I rescued a kitten off the street and brought her in for vaccines. They told me I had to keep bringing her back for boosters every three weeks until she was 7 months old (so, it would have ended up being at least 4 – 5 shots). They also cleverly charged me $ 65 for a «physical examination» EVERY time she got the shots. When I took her elsewhere for spaying, I told the staff about the every-​three-​weeks thing. They said, «I’ve never heard of that. It’s two shots to start, then an annual booster.» I ended up spending over $ 700 on vet bills for my kitten (and it would have been more if I actually followed their vaccine regimine), when local shelter adoption fees average around $ 200, shots/​tests/​fixing included. Their inflated prices dissuade folks from rescuing the cats who need help the most.

I will never go anywhere else again. I absolutely adore Dr. Lentis! I have been taking my cat (s) to her for over a year and she is phenomenal. My first cat ended up getting cancer, and passed away. The staff here was so compassionate, and she even sent me a handwritten note after he passed, even though she hadn’t seen him in months and his care had been turned over to Blue Pearl.
Dr. Lentis is so patient, and she never makes me feel stupid for any silly questions I have. She is very understanding of people on a budget and will tell you honestly what is absolutely necessary, and in what order, if you don’t have all the funds up front.
At other vets I have felt as if they were judgmental or annoyed, but all of the staff here is so kind and down to earth. Walk-​ins are very convenient and I almost never have to wait, nor am I rushed.
People say that it is pricey, but it is much cheaper than two other vets I tried in Hoboken. Those places also pushed very hard to add extras, and they have never been that way here. I also love the fact that the vet makes personal calls to check up on your pet and will actually give you some phone time instead of rushing if you happen to have questions.
I took my new cat to her last week and she remembered me. I cannot tell you how happy I was to see her when she walked in the room! I felt the urge to hug her, but I thought that might be crossing some boundaries!

Things I don’t love about this vet:
–It’s pricey, but like others have said, so is every other vet in this area
–No appointments. I LOVE Dr. Norby, but can’t make an appointment to see her!

I’ve brought a number of cats to this infirmary, both fosters and my own, and I’ve always been satisfied. I particularly like Dr. Lentis, as she has cats herself, so she gets us cat owners. She truly talks to you like a friend, and I’m always happy to see her.
Their prices are steep, but not as much as the animal hospital on Washington St. And if your cat is seriously ill, they do have their limitations in terms of how much surgery they can do. When my previous cat needed exploratory surgery, they openly said they were not set up for that. (See my review of Lyndhurst Animal Hospital for that surgery.) But for basic animal care, the place is friendly, professional, clean and better yet, it’s a walk-​in, and you rarely have to wait, as plenty of vets are on
any given time. I just wish the prices were a bit more reasonable, but that’s life in Hoboken.
UPDATE: There is a downside to the walk-​in feature, though, in that you never develop a real relationship with any one of the vets. Since I first wrote this review, I never once saw Dr. Lentis again, as I think she now works in a different location. See my review of Secaucus Animal Hospital for where I go now, where I’ve developed a real relationship with a vet who now knows my cat’s history. The Infirmary’s constant rotation of young vets is great for speed, but not for true long term care of your pet, especially if it has a condition.

I’ve been calling local vets in the area for quotes on dog dental cleanings. This place will not give you a quote over the phone. When I pressed them to just give me an approximate cost, they insisted they would not, then hung up the phone on me! Wow, if that’s the type of service they provide over the phone, I would NEVER trust them with my dog.

We took our dogs here for shots, and our experience was basically positive. They are pricy and over-​aggressive, but perhaps not more so than other local vets. Don’t get pushed into buying your prescriptions from the vet. (I have done this more times than I care to admit.) You can get much better prices elsewhere.
My main complaint is that they told us our dog had cancer and needed a several thousand dollar surgery. I took the dog to a specialist for a second opinion. It turns out she was fine and did not need the surgery at all.
