This is my second favorite Chinese place in Boken. Love eating here. It’s byo and never crowded. They also have delcious cheap sushi and literally the best dumplings. And if you want to order delivery instead, they’ll be at your door within a half hour. Love it here!

I really want to like Aroma but alas after the second time around, I just simply cannot. My first experience was sit down and the service was eh ok. I had the chicken teriyaki and wasn’t impressed but I gave it the benefit of the doubt and thought well, of course Japanese food at a Chinese restaurant would not be amazing. The second time around we did take out and I ordered the sesame chicken. I asked for the rice to not have egg and he refused because the rice is already premade. That in itself was kind of annoying for people with egg allergies. When I got the chicken, it tasted like the frozen chicken u pick up at shop rite made by apple bees and lacking in sauce. It simply was not good and mushy. Precious does a better job at the sesame white meat chicken combo dish. I’ll be okay with never returning again.

I cannot even explain how shocked I am at the experience I just had with this place. I placed an order for SUSHI and General Tsos chicken. I called back literally TWOMINUTES(i did check my phone to confirm) later to cancel the order and the woman on the phone told me I could not cancel because the delivery was already on the way. I asked her how an order for Sushi(3 rolls mind you) could possibly have been prepared in 2 minutes? I also asked whether it could have been pre-made? She was insulted at the accusation and insisted that the delivery was on the way and that I could not cancel. As I was asking for her manager, the delivery arrived. I apologized and explained to the delivery man that I tried cancelling the order and could not accept the delivery. He called his boss, and ended up leaving the delivery on the stairs of our apartment. I told him to please take it with him, but he literally ran away. Now, I eat Sushi pretty often(about once a week) and I’m well aware that you cannot prepare and delivery 3 rolls of sushi in 2 – 5 minutes. And if you do, then I don’t want it. I’m legitimately concerned about this place and I strongly urge anyone considering it to NOTORDERFROMHEREEVER.

I’ve never had Chinese food here, but their Sushi is pretty good. It’s always fresh, the service is fast, and they seriously have the best deal in Hoboken for Sushi. They have a great selection of rolls, and their maki combo has a ton of options too. Their delivery is always fast, too.

I’m a fan of Aromas. I can’t turn down Chinese food — I just can’t. It’s one of those things you need to have every week. With this particular location, there is ONE very specific rule you have to follow when ordering here. You don’t do delivery. Ever. You must eat in-house. If you get delivery, you will soon understand why I told you not to go that route. If you do not get delivery, well done, you have heeded my advice and saved yourself a lot of trouble. I’ve had issues with delivery the two times I deeded to order from here. Other than that, this place is A-OK for your Chinese fix. I wouldn’t recommend it over Precious(its wonderful neighbor), but it will get the job done if you’re hungry and have the craving. I haven’t had any issues eating here inside and I ate inside around four times to date. The food is always served semi-quickly and the service is pretty okay. The prices aren’t bad at all, so, no wallet digging done here.

This used to be our go-to place before we discovered Precious, but Aroma is still good, and Precious only edges them out a little bit in my opinion. That’s why I was surprised to see such a low rating here on Unilocal. The tangerine shrimp has always been one of our favorite dishes on their menu, which I haven’t seen offered anywhere else so far. Careful, it’s a bit spicy! The chicken w/cashews is good too. Aroma is not terribly expensive, and they load you up on the portions. A solid Chinese food experience.

DONOTEVERORDERFROMHERE! I’d give is 0 stars if possible. I received my order and called the restaurant and the the owner is incredibly rude and combative if you question anything about your order. In fact when I questioned my dish he asked me «are you chinese?» Excuse me? What does that have to do with anything? FYI Chow Mein to him is flavorless chicken and cabbage. He also told me he doesnt care if I order from there again… which believe me I will NEVER. Not to mention the food is sub-bar. Support other local business who understand customer service and how to better prepare food.

Come on, guys. This place is fast, cheap, and good-enough. Not fine-dining or «authentic» in any sense of the word, but definitely scratches the«I want greasy asian food» itch. It’s our go-to asian restaurant. The food isn’t healthy. Okay. Much of it is fried and anything on the plate that’s not fried is likely salt. But the food actually isn’t bad-quality. The service is very acceptable. And they have a good variety. They actually have very acceptable sushi and only some of it is deep-fried. Try the general tso’s chicken, the pad thai, or the pork fried-rice. All are very good in-house or delivered.

Horrible Chinese food. I ordered seafood chow fun and it was a complete disaster: No eggs, the seasonings is completely bland. General tso chicken should be called general tso breading. Salt and pepper squid was also tasteless. Save your time and money by going elsewhere

I’m not sure what all these bad reviews are about! Granted my husband and I have never dined IN the restaurant but Aroma is our go to Chinese restaurant for delivery. They are always speedy, the food is good and they have never once messed up our order(knock on wood.) If you want a cheap and decent meal, Aroma is a good choice!

Good for delivery. Food was decent but they messed up my order– pretty sure there are noodles in Chow-mein. Would order from here again.

Stopped in here randomly after picking up my taxes at the accountant. The BBQ boneless pork appetizer was fatty, I didn’t really care for it. The lunch specials were cheap, but nothing really blew me away. I doubt I’d try again.

This has become my Chinese take out place as of late(sorry Cottage). It is pretty reliable, but nothing especially fantastic. The General Tso’s chicken and shrimp is really good. Boneless ribs are pretty good, and the soup has good wontons. The dumplings are really on the small side, and the fried rice, while not bad, has a ton of peas, which I’m not wild about. I might give Prescious a try next time… either way, this place will get the job done.

My husband and I were starving so since we were in the area and hadn’t had Chinese in quite a while, we thought we’d give it a try. It’s an average sized place and a good number of the tables were filled for 4pm on a Sunday. I get the same thing every time I have Chinese because 1. I like it and 2. it’s a good way to measure a restaurant. It’s kind of hard to mess up broccoli and string beans in a brown sauce(I’m a vegetarian, okay?), but you’d be surprised. I have to say that Aroma did a good job and it was the first time in a long time I was able to enjoy this dish without too much oil or goo. As for my husband, I don’t know why he decided to order chicken pad thai. Everyone knows you don’t order Thai in a Chinese restaurant, right? Silly boy! Well, when the pad thai came, I didn’t say a word, but he tasted it – it looked nothing like pad thai other than the noodles used: huge pieces of egg, steamed chicken that would go into a steamed chicken and broccoli order, and big purple onions. Aroma was kind enough to take the pad thai back and made whatever my husband ordered a chicken dish that looked a million times better; actually could’ve been a photo. Some things you may find helpful/interesting: +They serve the flat Chinese noodles with duck sauce. +Soda is by the can(fine by me – you’re always ensured it’ll taste just right!) –Great acoustics if you’re into eavesdropping. Even though I moved my table as I didn’t want to hear a meeting next to me, I still heard the woman from across the room. –Say what you want, but I saw flies buzzing around the sushi bar.

You, Aroma, seem to believe that white rice, hunks of carrots, green peas, raw white onions and disgusting re-hydrated baby shrimp combined equals Thai shrimp fried rice. You, Aroma, are the sole reason for my hanger(hunger + anger) on August 28th. Not the thigh-high flooding we tackled. Not even the lack of power we encountered in the morning. You, Aroma, are the reason that I pulled on my rainboots and trekked back out into the(now) calf-high water for a ½ hour, in search of pizza. I realize that my complaints reek of first-world privilege(wah, I don’t feel like cooking and my takeout entrée is gross) but you, Aroma, were the worst thing that happened to me during Hurricane/Tropical Storm Irene.

This was the ONLY restaurant in Hoboken where I found vegetarian meat. Don’t get me wrong, I love my veggies and tofu, but it’s nice to have another option. I went with the Szechuan veggie beef with brown rice, which was pretty good. My friend went with the veggie chicken with cashews, which I preferred. Our waiter spoke little English but he was VERY nice and tried his best to understand us. We went during lunch so our food was only $ 6 — SCORE — so I will definitely be back again.

Somethin’ changed there as of late, which I’m not sure of to quite honest, and sadly this establishment has fallen onto my rare do not eat at places. I’ve eaten here twice in the past year, and the first time, the food tasted a bit funky, and then I had to deal with food poisoning for the next day+. The second time was for a friend’s birthday dinner, and fell ill after eating there again. Sad, cause this place used to be one of my favorite’s for Chinese food. Sorry Aroma, but the love just isn’t there anymore.

The title changes hands every few months, but Aroma is the NEW Hoboken Chinese Delivery Champion! My measuring stick, wonton-egg drop mixed soup was excellent last night with flavorful soup(no need to add soy sauce) and perfectly seasoned wontons. Never have to remind them to add noodles. The dinner special for under $ 10 is great with soup, egg roll, main dish(chose delicious flavorful brown sauce for chicken mixed veg), pork fried rice and a soda, delivery in 15 minutes. Until further notice(aka they let me down), Aroma is #1.

I think the quality at Aroma is marginally above that of your standard Chinese take-out joint. Never had a problem with service. In fact, the one waiter knows me and my friends since we usually come in a big horde! Bonus points for the 11 – 4 lunch special. The boneless spare ribs are probably the best here out of all the Chinese places I’ve eaten at. Egg rolls are slightly less greasy than usual; the wonton soup is more watery.
