I called H&R Block for the first and last time to try and do my taxes. After spending 30 minutes on the phone with an automatic machine that told me the first available day was Sunday, which I picked, I received a call back saying Sunday doesn’t work… According to their own automatic prompts, that it why Sunday was selected. But OK, the lady said Saturday and I went with it. I woke up Saturday excited to finally cross this well past due task off my list, and started making my way to the appointment. As I was literally on my way already, I receive a phone call saying that the location is flooded. Mind you, this is already past 11 and they need to reschedule my appointment. How did they not know the location was «flooded» before 12? I scheduled the original appointment on Tuesday, and if I would have known they wouldn’t’ be able to take me, I would have went somewhere else… Instead, I am now scrambling to find an alternative. They did offer me one location, which is in the middle of the ghetto. I said I’m not comfortable going to that location, and they said that’s the only one open. We are right by New York… I would imagine there are a couple of locations open there??? The lady was rude, made no apologies for the fact that they didn’t notify me until I was on my way, and was gracious enough to offer to reschedule me for next week, which would be too late for me. Thanks but no thanks, and do not count on my business ever again!

Just got back from doing my 2014 taxes – thanks so much to Patricia, she is very helpful, candid, and will work with you to the extent that any accountant would – she will also do what you say and won’t tell you anything’s «impossible» unless it really is in terms of deductions you’re eligible for. I specifically requested to work with her again after doing my 2013 return with her last year. It had been my first time doing my own taxes and I had a relatively tricky situation… I am a resident of NJ and having been working in NYC only added to the complication when I «attempted» to do my own on turbotax (never again, turbotax, what a niiiightmare). Patricia is definitely very ethical, but will also work to make suggestions in helping you get a better return. It can never hurt to do a little research on your own going in, since there are tons of deductions many aren’t aware of – she can’t possibly suggest ALL of them to you, but if there’s something in particular you’re wondering whether you qualify for as a deduction, etc. she will do whatever she can to make it happen for you. She also gives good advice for the coming year and now I feel better equipped to manage my finances in 2015 so that I will be in a good situation when this time rolls around next year. I can’t speak for anyone else at this location, but I would recommend Patricia Tosich. They do take walk-​ins here, but I think that if you make an appointment you might be accommodated better.

Great news. After contacting the tax preparer at the Hoboken office again yesterday on 2/24.2015, to ask for the common courtesy to at this point at least let me know if I should refile somewhere else and he let me know he’d check on the return I filed with him on 1/​26, the same return that I was told they screwed up and didnt send until ²⁄₁₁.
I received an automated email from H&R Block (not him) about an hr later to let me know my taxes had just been sent to the IRS… yesterday…2/24…a month after I went into the office originally.
I emailed him twice yesterday to get the details as to why this happened. I would have left it there but I wasn’t even given the courtesy of an explanation, so I contacted H&R customer service again and filed a formal 2^nd complaint.
DO NOT GO TO H&R BLOCK IN HOBOKEN ESPECIALLY AT THE WASHINGTON ST LOCATION. THE WORST.
