Specialties

I teach students to become more than just guitarists; I teach them to become MUSICIANS! The difference between the two is profound and is how I differentiate myself from other instructors.

My specialty is jazz, but I also enjoy performing and teaching blues, rock, funk, folk, and classical. Students can expect to gain a solid foundation in technique, repertoire, theory, improvisation, and sight reading.

History

Established in 2011.

Mat Birmingham Studios has been successfully converting non-​musicians into musicians since 2011. Mat creates a fostering and fun environment in which students learn the fundamentals of guitar music and how to use it as a tool for self expression.

Business Owner

Mat received his B.A. in Music (Jazz Guitar Studies) from the University of Vermont. His in depth knowledge of music and patient attitude make him an ideal instructor for beginners and intermediate players alike.

Mat performs actively throughout the NYC area in a variety of bands and musical settings.
