Prime Cycle

Very intense class for 7:15 am but the music keeps the class fun and energetic and the motivation from the teacher is electric! Would strongly recommend this class

Great studio. There seems to be a bit of a lack of spin studios in Hoboken, or at least ones that are on Classpass :) I’ve tried most spin places out there, and if I had to compare to the reigning spin studios I’d say the classes here are more similar to Soul Cycle than Flywheel. There’s more constant movement up and down and using the handlebars than Flywheel has, but it’s not quite as «dancey» as Soul.
Clean new studio and consistently good motivating instructors. Only reason I can’t give 5 stars is because the locker area can get quite cramped and there’s nowhere to change other than a couple single bathrooms. I personally find this to be a drawback at any studio. Still love it though!

This place is going to send me to the poor house but it’s in line with all the other classes in the area. Despite the stiff classes prices, I love this place so much. I especially love that you get your stats emailed to you after class so you can see how hard you worked and track your progress. My fav instructors are Alexa and Julie. No matter what type of day I’m having… I always walk out feeling awesome.

I would give Prime Cycle a higher rating, if it weren’t for the inconsistent teachers. I’ve had some stellar instructors at Prime, but lately I’ve been stuck with a few clunkers. I think, because the demand is high and they are trying to provide more classes, they might have trained a few individuals who weren’t exactly «prime» teaching material. Teaching spin almost has more to do with your musicality and ability to find the beat and build the ride according to the music. Twice now I’ve taken Nicole O’s class and her lack of rhythm, inability to find the downbeat, and build the ride in a cohesive manner has left me bummed. Sometimes she’s surprised by the music and quickly changes course on the bike, to follow the building music — but by then she’s lost the momentum and often the class is out of sync and appears confused. This isn’t to say that Prime Cycle is a bust — overall I think it’s the best spin studio in Hoboken and teachers in popular class times (i.e. weekends, evenings, etc.) are excellent. I’ll continue going, but hopefully the staff can observe a few more of their novice teachers and make sure they are developing the right talent to build the quality of their brand.

Just had my first class here, I took ripped ride with Stacy. She was very energetic and fun and it was nice to see her spin with us the entire time. The music was okay, Soulcycle definitely does it best but the selection is much better than Flywheel. The music cuts out quickly because it looked like she was playing it from her phone.
The workout itself was challenging but doable. She makes you do push-​ups and sways while you spin. Ive never done this in Soulcycle or flywheel but it was an interesting move. I think it’s important to work on your posture before doing this because as you spin it could be easy to pull a muscle. I also wish that she had more targets for us to hit but if you spin regularly, you’ll know how to challenge yourself. I still think Flywheel does it the best worth their torqboard.
The studio is clean but quite small. The locker room was crowded but it could also be because it was a Saturday class.
All in all I’ll be back again but I’d still choose flywheel or Soulcycle over Prime!

Erica’s Work Hard Play Hard class is great. Good playlist and motivates me to push harder and let go. As for studio, staff is always nice. I think they must have worked out the kinks mentioned in earlier posts because sound and lighting system are always good. I have my own shoes and if you going to take classes, I do recommend that. I agree with other posts about the monitor not lighting up and that is kind of annoying. But, one thing I’ve never seen anywhere are the combo private showers/​rest rooms. There are three and I’ve never had to wait to take a shower before going to work. It’s nice to have a private room to shower and get dressed. Love this place! Such a great class/​workout. The instructors are so motivating! They are all great! I try to come every weekend if i can. I recently moved out of town and tried a place closer to my new home. It did NOT cut it. Have to go to prime!

Walked into my first spin class completely petrified!
Five minutes into it I was convinced I would never take another class and by the time the hour was up I was convinced I’d be an idiot not to include Prime Cycle into my fitness regimen!
Staff was so nice and took the time to give me the run down on all the basics before class started!
I would recommend them to anyone looking for a spin studio in Hoboken!

Take Work Hard, Play Hard with Erica. She is the absolute best! I always get the best workout. Ever.

Finally a cycling studio in Hoboken that focuses on JUST cycling!
I’ve gone to about five classes now, and I always leave feeling like I got a good ass kicking, Literally. My butt and quads are always sore the following day. I typically go with a group of girlfriends and make it a fun workout gathering before a good sunday brunch.
Music selection is SO important to my workout. If I’m not feeling the music I check out pretty quickly and am watching the clock. The line up of songs are always awesome. Just when you think you’re about to be completely winded and take some resistance off, a great upbeat song comes on and gets your right back on the expected RPM. It’s songs for every age range will enjoy. Some current and some fun throwbacks.
Prime Cycle is challenging, exciting, and fun. They are very much about their customers. Any concern or suggestion you have they clearly take it to consideration. Whether it’s helping you clip into the bikes, or if you have song suggestions for the next class. Totally worth the trip uptown to check out and is officially my studio of choice when I want to splurge on a special workout on my own or with some friends.

If you’re used to spinning at say, NYSC or Crunch, then I get the appeal of this place. But in my opinion, and not to sound like a snob, if you’re going to pay to go to a boutique spin class why settle for something mediocre instead of going to something great?
When my friend asked me to try Prime I was all with an open mind. Of course I’d never give up my SoulCycle but it’d be great to find a spin place in my hood too! However when I got there everything just felt wrong, beginning with leaving my beloved spin shoes in the locker because the bikes don’t accommodate Delta clips. Being a good sport, I watched in slight disgust as they sprayed a pair of used shoes for me before handing them over, and into class I wobbled in their awkward SPD clips.
As I entered class I felt cold (was the AC on?) and confused. Attached to the bike was a screen to track RPMs, etc., however in the darkness of the room you couldn’t see the screen unless you held a light button. I don’t know about other people, but I don’t have time for that during class. Anyway, I clipped into the bike and began warming up.
First off, class was sloppy. Choreography was a blatant ripoff of SoulCycle but often didn’t make sense, and what was more annoying to me was multiple times the instructor said to lead on the left but then halfway through the song she changed to the right. I’m quite the perfectionist when it comes to my rides, so was kind of freaking out when she kept changing with no reason and without telling us. Then one time in class she yelled out «turn it off to the right». Um… that doesn’t make sense. But I did turn it up, until I realized she did actually mean the left «down the hill». Then I was always confused — when she said left did she really mean right?! I don’t remember music that much because it’s been a few weeks. I do remember her saying she had just played the same song the day before, which is kind of lame though.
So all in all will I be going back? Probably not. Should you try it? If you live uptown and can’t get into the city to go to a better class… sure!

I hate to write a bad review but I’m hoping it’s seen as constructive criticism given that this studio is still new. I frequently attend Soul Cycle and FlyWheel classes, and now that I signed up for class pass, I figured I’d give Prime Cycle a go (location is certainly more convenient than treking into NYC!),
As far as the studio, everything looked very clean and polished. They had a little area with merchandise and the lockers are convenient. I didn’t see any showers, although there are co-​ed changing rooms.
The bikes seem a bit dated? I know they look new, but they are a dated version of spin bikes. There is also a small screen to measure RPM, but the screen does not stay lit up, making it hard to see, which was distracting.
I was already feeling a little skeptical, and then the instructor started having difficulty with the speakers and getting the music loud enough (nothing against them, that could happen to anyone at any studio), but at that point I was just distracted and not feeling it. I hopped off my bike, walked downtown to the path and took an amazing Soul Cycle class at West Village.
I think this studio has potential, and I’m sure in a year, this business will be running like a well oiled machine, but for right now– they are definitely still working out the kinks.
A comment about the price, I find it very expensive to charge $ 28 per class. If you rent shoes and buy a bottle of water– that’s $ 31. I can go to FlyWheel and pay $ 34 per class, which includes free shoes, free water, showers AND fruit/​snacks post workout.
Soul Cycle charges $ 32 per class ($ 34 with the shoe rental) — now that’s $ 3 more than Prime Cycle; however, you get access to a separate women’s changing area, complete with showers, blow dryers and toiletries.
I just think that Prime Cycle is pretty expensive, considering that the two major NYC cycling studios are very close in price and offer you a lot more bang for your buck. I know Hoboken is in close proximity to NYC, but I really don’t think Prime is in a place where it can compete price-​wise with those other studios.
Unfortunately-won’t be going back. I hope that they change their prices and maybe tune up their business model a little bit. For now– take the quick trip on the path to Christopher St (Soul Cycle) or 14^th St (FlyWheel) — you’ll be glad you did.

Finally a top notch cycle studio in uptown Hoboken. For what ever reason these bikes are really well balanced and actually feel great to be on as they are brand new. It seems like the spin bike manufacturers have learned a thing or two in this current version of the spin bike. Most importantly, the class was great. A lot of in out of the saddle, full body (which i am not a fan of) and climbs. Finally, they do have a spin computer and send you your stats after the class — no nonsense like flywheel where you compete.
Overall a very good experience and definitely recommend a ten pack and to incorporate into fitness régime.

After much anticipation, Prime Cycle has finally opened! As a recent transplant from NYC to Hoboken, I was looking forward to this opening since I was debating to switch from my usual spin studio in the city (used to go to CYC) due to proximity. Was lucky enough to catch a free class in their pre-​opening week just to try it out. Was pleasantly surprised with the space, equipment and the crowd.
All of the equipment was obviously brand spanking new and beautiful since it was the first day… but I think this place will be great even after some wear and tear. The locker room is co-​ed and has convenient digital combination lockers and I’m so pumped I won’t have to worry about bringing my own lock ever again!
Can’t speak of the shoe rental since I have my own bike shoes with SPD clips, but I will say that the bikes they have here are super easy to clip into vs. my past spin experiences (probably because they actually recommend the SPD clips here instead of the look clips!). Easy set up. As for the class itself, the instructor had high energy and I found her class to be well varied and challenging… all parts of the body including upper body were worked out. They could probably do a lot more with the light system once they get used to the controls — not really worried about that. The content of the class was good and I was sweating hard.
I’m sure it will be a popular option for people that live in uptown Hoboken. I’m working Prime Cycle into part of my normal fitness routine and just bought a 10 pack since it’s on sale until ⁹⁄₁₅.
I noticed that they currently have 6AM classes scheduled for Monday, Wednesday, Friday. Love the early classes since I have to commute to NYC daily and hope they can eventually add more early classes in the future.
