Established in 2012.
PROTO Gallery was founded by artist Nick De Pirro in 2012 just after Hurricane Sandy in the historic R. Neumann and Co. leather factory in Hoboken, New Jersey. The first exhibition at PROTO took place in Spring of 2013 and since then the gallery has been a venue for large group exhibitions curated by the gallery staff or by guest curators in its 2500 sq. ft. exhibition space.

Business Owner
Nick De Pirro received a BFA in sculpture from Indiana University, and a MFA from The Ohio State University. He has operated a personal professional art studio in the R. Neumann and Co. leather goods factory in Hoboken since 2008 while simultaneously founding the art studio leasing company, Project Studios LLC, which rents studio space to artists, designers, musicians, and other creatives. In 2012 a ground-floor space in the Neumann factory became available, and PROTO Gallery was formed.
