This is only the second review I have ever done on Unilocal even though I use Unilocal for everything but Kara did such an amazing job on my highlights that I couldn’t pass up writing a review. I used to be a colorist so I am extremely picky with my highlights (the worst kind of client) and Kara did the most incredible, natural, bright, summery blonde ever. She was attentive, listened to exactly what I was asking for, gave her expert advice in a non-​pushy way, and took her time with the balayage. She is a junior stylist but had previous experience before starting the training program at Salon Caru and it shows. I am already sending my mom and sister to her and I suggest anyone who wants a perfect blonde (or any other color) should definitely go see her. Thank you for such amazing service!

This salon is fantastic! I’ve been getting my hair colored here by Murphy for about a year and I am so glad that I found such a talented colorist. I’ve also gone here for blowouts /​updos by other stylists and always loved the results! Highly recommended

I really don’t think there are words to express how I feel about my haircut. In my wildest dreams I imagined a hairstylist who cared about their job, the outcome, client satisfaction, and at the same time was extremely precise and artistic. I found that in Ashley. It feels like this is the first haircut of my life, what was I paying for all those other years?

I have curly frizzy ugly hair. Curtis cut it dry and gave it new life… I now roll out of bed and do nothing to it… A cut is everything!!! A cut with him is worth every penny… Thank you!

Today I saw Michael and he blew me away. He was charming, kind and extremely talented. The haircut was phenomenal and was created to shape my face perfectly. Book with Michael, he has the goods.

I found this salon on Unilocal and decided to give it a try for a bold change (from bold to red). I was booked with Brittney C by chance and I’m so happy I was! She was friendly, patient, and professional as she walked me through all my coloring options and helped me make the best decision for my lifestyle and desired color. On top of that, she matched the picture I brought in EXACTLY, and everyone kept commenting about not knowing I was a natural red head. It looked great :-)
Since my visit, I’ve changed my color around and had some fun and Brittney has been wonderful and flexible. I couldn’t thank the salon enough for such a great experience and am looking forward to returning.

I have been searching for my hair. Spent years and much money searching for someone who listens and cuts as I describe. Well after ten years, I’ve found that stylist. Josephine, thank you for giving me back my hair! She is super nice and cares about doing the right cut for you. Love her. You will too.

Heidi really knows what she is doing. The place is definitely pricey, but can you really put a price in perfection?
I went there for the first time three weeks ago, and brought her a damaged, over colored hair, and asked her to perform a miracle.
She took the challenge with easy and assured me that even if it took 5 hours we would get it done.
My hair had three colors: red, brown, and blonde. I told her I wanted to go full blonde. And she made it happen.
I have gone to other places and asked for crazy hair colors and every time I would get a reserved attitude towards. But Heidi really took it in and made it look the best it could.
Absolutely going back in 2 weeks to lighten it even more. Obsessed!!!

This place is pricey– but never have second guessed paying the high rates.
Heidi is phenomenal at color– and takes her time throughout the entire process. She also checks the hair before the assistant takes the foils out, which i appreciate greatly.
Curtis does a great cut, and also is super fun to talk to. I highly recommend this place!

I love going to Salon Caru, but booking an appointment is a nightmare.
Not because they are so busy (they are, because their stylists are awesome) but because the people who answer the phone are terrible.
After leaving a message, waiting until 2 pm the next day without a callback, calling them and waiting on hold for 10 minutes, booking an appointment (yay!) I got a text confirming me for the wrong day. Call back, leave another message detailing the problem, I get a voicemail confirming me for 10 am but not telling me a day. Call back, wait on hold for 10 more minutes and am told oh, actually Michael isn’t in at the time you were told. I say I can’t do the time they booked me for, ask what’s available for the following week, nothing works, so I say I’ll call back.
THEN…I get a VM asking if I’m going to keep my appointment on the WRONG DAY from the SAME PERSON.
I’m going to miss Michael and Heidi, because I just can’t deal with this! Maybe once their website has online booking I’ll be back…

One of the best haircuts I’ve ever had. Received compliments for several weeks afterwards. Service was great and the staff was very friendly. Definitely switching from my old salon where the prices kept going up but the quality went down. This cut was worth every penny!

I have the best hair color tone in my life, thanks to Heidi

I almost never write Unilocal reviews (only 1 other review since I’ve created an account) but I felt very compelled to write one about my colorist Heidi. Although I am naturally a medium blonde, I have had numerous colorists botch my color. I am not sure why it kept happening considering I am already blonde and just go a bit lighter, but I used to constantly return to salons because I was super unhappy with my color. Since I started going to Heidi, I have never had to return once. My color consistently looks incredible no matter what shade of blonde I feel like testing out. For anyone that wants their color done right the first time, go see Heidi.

Curtis is the absolute best!
A phenomenal talent and all around hair genius! Expect great things when you visit him as well a good laugh!
He saved my life and hair from a terrible haircut, making my LOB chic and sassy even before Kim K had hers.
Do yourself a favor and visit Curtis ASAP!

Soooo after about 3 months, I returned to Caru for a new color. This one was a JOB, seriously. I booked Brittany C, again, and after examining my hair and asking me about my hair routine since my last color in December, we decided I would become a blonde.
Because of all of the crazy colors I did on my own prior to my last color, I had lots of residual colors in my hair. Brittany warned me that in the process of going blonde there may be some pink which she would try to get out and if not I may have to go darker for now (blah). After about 60 steps, a few hours and a bunch of stylist terms that sounded like Chinese (she explained each), hello blonde! We combed my hair, ZERO breakage. I was seriously floored.
Couldn’t be happier! Thanks Brittany C. Oh yeah, ask for Olaplex with your color service. It’s a few bucks extra but I swear I think it may have saved my hair. After all of the things we put my strands through, my hair feels healthy and amazing still.

This salon is awesome. When I first came in, I told my stylist I wanted to transition from a red/​brown to an ash blonde. Amanda really took her time with me and my hair looks exactly how I wanted! I would recommend coming here; especially if you want to make a big change like I did!

Frankly I’m surprised about the rave reviews for this salon. I had my hair cut and colored here recently and while the salon is nice, the quality of both services were pretty lackluster, especially considering how expensive they were. I mean we’re talking city prices = + $ 300 for highlights and cut without tip is pretty outrageous if you ask me… Especially considering how they turned out. I wasn’t really blown away by the stylist either…
Personally, I’m very disappointed and would suggest going elsewhere…

Have been coming to Caru for a few years and they never disappoint. I see Josephine and she is great!
Very modern salon, clean and bright. Josephine is very patient and takes her time while cutting and styling my hair. She sits me down every time and makes recommendations on what cut will be best. Shes very laid back and personable and never tries to push products on you. She’s very detailed in explaining whats shes doing and what products are being used. And never makes me feel guilty about going too long without getting a hair cut.
Love Caru and Josephine. highly recommend it to anyone looking for a new salon.

What a wonderful salon! The space is very light, airy, modern, and the stylists are friendly, welcoming, and attentive. I was asked if I needed water/​coffee three times. The complimentary coffee’s delicious!
I got highlights and a trimmed up my pixie by Amanda for $ 190.
The only drawbacks were the slightly snarky receptionists and the run down chairs. But I’m a picky one, so don’t mind me. Will be coming back!

My boyfriend and I had been to the bar downstairs but had no idea about the salon above. This place was amazing!
Friends staff, great service! I’m no where near a hair expert but the receptionist walked me through the kind of appointment I would need.
When I arrived my hair was an embarrassing knot of a mess. Ashley didn’t skip a beat when fixing it. I told her to do what she jinks is best and I’m so happy I did.
Ashley was friendly, attentive and very knowledgeable. So glad i decided to come in!

I cannot say enough about this place and my amazing stylist Ashley. She is unreal and so worth the trip out to Hoboken. Dedicating an entire Sunday to bring me back to blonde (okay…beyond my natural blonde and straight on to «animé platinum» hah).not an easy day but so worth it.
All of the staff here were über friendly and helpful. The location is killer and parking was a breeze — a quick jaunt from the parking lot.
Highly, highly recommend.

I love this place!!! I’ve had my hair done three times here over the past year. My first experience was with Josephine and the last two times with Ashley. They are both amazing stylists. Everyone in this salon is super nice and accommodating. The quality you receive is 100% worth the price.
Parking is annoying. obviously it’s Hoboken. Just park in the garages closeby and they’ll validate up to 2 hours, which means I get to my appointment right on time. Haha. Speaking of appointments, I love the email and text reminders to confirm your time.
People, you need to come here! If you’ve been going to cheap spots to get mediocre haircuts, stop what you’re doing and pay a few extra dollars to get a chic, quality style!

Firstly I never wrote a review on Unilocal but use it daily for its super helpful. I found Caru on Unilocal after being left with a horrible green/​orange dye job from my hairdresser of 8 years. I called desperately looking for any available appointment on Saturday. In my emotional state I shared my story with the receptionist in hopes she might sympathize with my embarrassing clown head. She said she couldn’t fit me in last minute on a Sunday but took my number and told me she would call if their were any openings. Not even 10 mins later I got a call back.
Amanda was the stylist who saved me and my hair! I could write so much about her. She listened to my sob story and told me what she could do to correct the color today. She spent over 8 hours on my hair and delivered amazing results. She talked me through the entire process. Her service goes above and beyond any stylist I ever went to. We were the last ones to leave the salon. The staff at Caru is extremely warm and helpful. One staff members went out to put money in my meter and many others jumped in during the process.
I left with blonde hair and happy. Amanda is a hair saint. She dedicated to correcting my hair and making me satisfied. I have recommended three friends here and they all love it. It’s a true gem. Excellent customer service and expert results.

It’s been a while since I wrote a review on Unilocal,but I’m motivated to do so now. The staff at Caru were warm and welcoming. I moved to Hoboken recently and was looking for a new salon and I found exactly what I was looking for.
Kodumu provided a great cut and good conversation. Not that anyone else should do so, but I came in with a murky notion of what I wanted and Kodumu listened and clarified that idea into a perfect cut and light styling.
Yes I will be going back! Thanks Caru!

So this place is legit. Ryan was my man, and he is the man. First of all, this place is super hip. Great space, great light, great music. You fill out a card asking you about water temp preference, drink preference — coffee, tea, filtered water, wine etc., massage preference etc… The music is great, think indie rock, and they have a variety of mags to glance at while waiting.
I entered and Ryan immediately got my hair — which is thick and coarse and said I got you girl, basically since I told him to make my hair look amazing. I was indeed looking to cut a few more inches off than my regular trim and get rid of the grown out bangs. The wash was perfect and long with a nice head massage. I told the lovely guy that my hair has been dry this summer and he told me all about this Paul Mitchell shampoo to use and he said he would use it on me to see if I liked it (which I did and bought).
Back to Ryan. He cut, he layered, he did it. Hot damn, praise the lord. Ryan, we had a great conversation flowing the whole time and you made my hair look fab. Bangs perfectly trimmed so they can grow out not in a funktastic way and be brushed to the side. The blow out was awesome with two men having at me (oooh la la). So great. I felt like a million bucks. And I went to a CMYE after (VB3) and got like 1000 compliments on how smokin’ I was lookin’. Oh yeah.
I always wait months after a salon to review. It’s been months and I love how my hair has grown out and it still looks great. Sure enough, this may be my spot. Oh. Only $ 60. Not too shabby if you ask me.
