In Classical Acupuncture, there’s a special technique called Wei Ke which was historically used to bring warriors/​athletes back onto the field as soon as possible.

In Modern Acupuncture, Dr. Chang is certified in Acupuncture Orthopedics. This allows him to combine the technological advances of today with the thousands of years of Classical Acupuncture.

History

Established in 2008.

Before I pursued medicine, I embarked on a much more «traditional» career path. After graduating from Columbia University in New York City with a B.S. in Engineering and Management Systems, I worked for Ernst & Young, Thomson Financial, and other Wall Street firms as a strategy consultant and pharmaceutical compliance analyst. My previous work experience has been extremely beneficial as it has helped me to understand the unique pressures and stresses that many of my patients experience.

Then one day, I was involved in a horrific car accident which left me in a coma. Doctors informed my family that I had less than a 10% chance to survive. While I did eventually awaken…

Dr. Chang is a Doctor of Acupuncture (D.Ac.) in Rhode Island and a Licensed Acupuncturist (L.Ac.) in New York and New Jersey. He received his B.S. from Columbia University in New York City. He is also currently pursuing his PhD in Classical Chinese Medicine.

Dr. Chang had the rare privilege to study Classical Chinese Medicine (CCM) with an 88th Generation Daoist priest of two Daoist lineages — the Jade Purity Yellow Emperor Lao Zi School and the Complete Reality Dragon Gate School.

He is also trained in fire cupping, emotional/​stress releases, detoxification, dietary nutrition, medical Qi Gong and essential oils blends for adults and children.

I have had an incredible experience receiving acupuncture from Dr. Chang. Due to a sports injury, I was suffering from lower back problems and had difficulty even walking. My back now feels even better than it did pre-​injury.
If you are looking for an acupuncturist, I would advise to make sure that you find one who has experience and is not just out of school. Dr. Chang has tons of experience (about 10 years — see bio) and his office is about 15 to 20 minutes from the city for me (from Chelsea).

It was my first time having an acupuncture treatment. Dr. Chang put me at ease, examined me and immediately knew several things about my medical condition that I didn’t tell him. I also saw immediate good results in my neck and shoulders. If I had to summarize, I’d say he’s safe, very knowledgeable and has a sincere desire to free people from pain. Very worthwhile.

I went to Dr. Chang as a last hope for pain relief. I suffered from multiple herniated discs in my neck and back and a fracture in my upper spine from a serious car accident in 2014. I had persistent muscle soreness and stiffness in both my neck and back and experienced debilitating muscle spasms that often left me in severe pain sometimes for weeks. Per other doctor’s recommendations, I went for several months of Physical Therapy which made my pain and mobility worse and they gave me multiple types of pain meds (I did not feel comfortable taking daily). I got to a point where the multiple doctors I was visiting could offer me no more hope for relief. A family member mentioned acupuncture and so I figured I would give it a try.
During the 1st consultation, Dr. Chang spent over an hour listening to my story to understand my injury and the pain I was suffering from. I could tell from the first visit that he was completely invested in healing my pain, something at that point I did not think was possible. He was very patient and seemed very certain that he could help me feel better. I was skeptical at first that it would work, but I continued on with the weekly treatments. I’ve been going now weekly for 3 months and I no longer suffer from daily pain, muscle spasms or stiffness. Dr. Chang is very kind, thoughtful, flexible with appt’s and never gave up on trying to find the right treatment that would relieve my pain. He is always aware of new advancements in Chinese Medicine which made me feel even more confident that he could relieve my pain, and he did! I highly highly recommend him, give it a try! Be patient, it took 2 – 3 sessions before I noticed a big difference. I plan to continue going for monthly treatments for other things, but so happy I found him and right in Hoboken!

I actually called Sports Acupuncture & Family Wellness seeking a Chinese medication for my dog who was recently diagnosed with cancer (I’m considering all options to help her). I knew it was a long shot as this place is for humans, but with nothing to lose, I called anyhow. Left a voicemail explaining what I was looking for.
A day later I received a phone call from Dr. Chang, who unfortunately would not be able to supply what I was looking for, but instead he gave me some very useful names and places I could go to to help my dog (he has 2 dogs himself so clearly understood how important our pets are)! He also provided some helpful info on holistic treatment for her which I greatly appreciated.
Needless to say, I would never expect such kindness from a complete stranger. I’ve never stepped foot into this place, yet Dr. Chang took the time to call and give me valuable information for my pet. He is clearly a compassionate person. In general I got the sense that he is a very responsible doctor with integrity which is not easy to find these days. If I ever seek out acupuncture or holistic therapies I will definitely be going here.

So I obtained bunion surgery 2.5 weeks ago. The stitches are out but the pin is still in and sticks out of my skin. The pain from putting the boot on and it pushing the pin constantly into my skin had me walking around in just an ace bandage. I started physical therapy, pure pain, on Monday. Then I decided to see Dr Chang later that day for acu and heat therapy solely on my foot.
As a result, about fifteen minutes after the session I DID NOT AT ALL feel the pin in my boot. Figured it was a fluke and walked to the car without my cane… No problem for the first time. I felt like I could run! But I didn’t clearly. It’s not Wednesday and the pain is still unavailable; just in time for physical therapy. Thanks Brian!

For a year I have struggled with TMJ, that same night I slept incredibly well and I didn’t clench my teeth ever since that day. I decided to try acupuncture after two months of physical therapy and BOY DO I WISH I TRIED IT EARLIER!!.
Dr. Chang is super nice, caring and helpful person. He has been treating my lower back pain and my spinal stenosis for two months now and I feel much better.
I love the nice smelling essential oils and the music during the treatment.

I have been going to Dr. CHANG for about two years now. At first I was skeptical but after a couple of sessions my shoulder felt better and better. Until one day I had no more pain or ache whatsoever. He treated my leg to ease my pain at the shoulder. Super cool huh?
Dr. CHANG is now treating my back with needles, stim and heat. Is like being in a spa. I love to relax, sleep and pain free. I totally recommend his services. He’s super nice, knowledgeable and converses just about anything. Flexible hours and the staff is very efficient.

I went to Dr. Chang about six weeks ago, and I was in a lot of pain in my arm and back. I got acupuncture done by him and he has been treating me for my pain. Dr. Chang is a miracle worker. I decided to try acupuncture for the first time and boy do I wish I tried it earlier! He is very knowledgeable and intellectual and made me feel confident and comfortable right away. With a toddler at home and day job working at the computer all day, my hands were throbbing and inflamed and it then trickled down to the lower back. After just one acupuncture session, the pain was gone the next day. It was also a nice stress reliever — wonderful smelling essential oils and music to help de-​stress during the treatment. He also gave some great advice and I am now an avid believer in dead sea salt baths and essential oils. Thank you Dr. Chang!

Five stars? Should be TEN stars! Dr Chang is simply the best! I am really picky. He’s been my acupuncturist for about 1 year now. He originally helped me for sciatica and I was so amazed at how well it worked I started to go to him for prenatal support. This is my second pregnancy and he has made it much more enjoyable by relieving my morning sickness, back pain, sinus issues. He’s extremely knowledgeable, like I never knew that biofreeze has menthol which enters the blood stream and can affect my baby!!! So he gave me a homeopathic cream which doesn’t enter the bloodstream and is safe for the little one I’m carrying! Now that’s how awesome he is and an example of how he goes the extra mile! I trust him with my entire family and my daughter loves him.
You should check him out! Try others first then go see him and FEEL the difference! He’s that good.

I was a little skeptical before seeing Brian because I had been to acupuncturists before and rarely are they great. I had several issues but primarily it was my neck and back. We discussed my issues and history thoroughly. Of course, right? The difference is he really listened.
But even better I got relief from my neck and back pain! He also gave me some guidance about some relevant health matters. Another time I went to him because I was stressed and depressed. What a difference!

Something else… he cares and was determined to help me. I can now say I found a GREAT acupuncturist!

After reading the glowing reviews for Sports Acupuncture & Family Wellness, I decided to book an appointment because nothing else was working for my allergies and asthma.
People who have serious allergies know what I’m talking about. I’ve seen so many doctors and had hundreds of tests since I was a child. They all were pushing allergy shots that didn’t work and made me feel like my muscles were getting weaker.
Dr Chang was really confident that we were going to undo my twenty years of allergies and asthma. He said it may take several treatments, but after Dr. Chang’s first treatment there was a huge improvement!!! He then created an essential oil blend and taught me where to put it on a strict schedule. I stuck with him and now I can breathe and my anxiety has gone with it. FREEDOM!
After seeing how much he helped me, I brought my eighteen month old child to him because my son had a severe ear infection. Dr. Chang treated him and then used some essential oil to get rid of the ear infection. NO ANTIBIOTICS!!! AWESOME!!!
I’m so happy that I found Dr Chang, and let me tell you, he is extremely knowledgeable and explains everything so us regular folks can understand. He REALLY CARES about his patients. Check him out, bring your kids if you’re tired of antibiotics being the answer to everything. He’s great with children too. I can’t believe my son let him treat him with acupuncture, plus he didn’t cry at all.

Life saver! I was treated by Dr. Chang for back and shoulder pain brought on by wedding stress. My neck and shoulders were very stiff from… well everything! I was short tempered and had a lot of headaches as well.
After he treated me it felt as if the stress and pain just melted away! He did two types if treatments, one to calm me down and bring me back to my center and the other to treat the neck and shoulders.
Seriously don’t know what I would have done without his help! Thank you!!!
Oh and he treated my mom for pain in her hands caused by diabetes.

My rating is the 5 stars allowable multiplied multiple times over. He literally helped my come back from a horrific bicycle crash; took 2 ½ years of mixed treatments and boy did he work hard with me and put in the time and effort that made the difference for me.
Dr. Chang is AWESOME!!! A fabulous listener, has incredible bedside (table side) manner, has a very soft touch, he truly knows his craft and he truly cares about his patients.
I first met Dr Chang at a local physical therapy office in Hoboken following a bicycle crash back in 2010. Being familiar with acupuncture I understood and was able to describe and partner in my treatment. He expanded my experience set with various types of treatments and principals from his extensive education.
Dr Chang is a well educated man, surprisingly not just in his field of acupuncture, read his bio. He truly understands the stress of the job market and being in an office environment. Dr Chang as I said is very well versed and quick on his feet with sharing information and providing education to his patients. He also speaks English very well, actually I think Korean is his 2nd language; hence ease to speak with and understand. His office is immaculate, he is a stickler for cleanliness and rightly so.
The challenge in my case as presented to Dr Chang was not just in treating the physical injuries including head, neck, back, and shoulder, but also the psychological impact of the crash; emotional treatments coupled on top of the physical injuries.
For months I saw Dr Chang 2−3x a week then 2x and eventually 1x then a few times monthly to the point now where I’ll back for maintenance or other unrelated reasons. Even my wife who was a non-​believer and afraid of needles is a true believer and patient.
Overall, he is so understanding, caring, and personable as is his spouse. My wife and I through my treatments actually become friends with Dr Chang outside the practice. He really means well and continues to amaze me when I present a different request to address.
Acupuncture is not necessarily for everyone, at the very least give it a try and stay away from questionable «quacks». Acupuncture DOES WORK, you might be surprised. I am bike riding again and horsing around with my young nieces. I have also since moved on from the emotional impact of my crash mostly due to Dr Chang’s efforts. Give him a try and you will be surprised.
