New owner Joe Berg took the run-​down dump over, and quietly revitalized it into a bonafide «upscale» Irish bar in uptown Hoboken! Located at 11th & Willow Avenue — there is now real nightlife for area residents and visitors.

The establishment, which was a borderline health-​code hazard encyclopedia, has now been cleaned up and renovated practically front to back!

Bar was re-​finished, ceilings stripped and painted, taps removed and replaced, vastly improved lights, 50″ TV’s galore and most importantly — clean, bright bathrooms!

They have supposedly the tastiest, coldest Guinness in Hoboken, along with other unique brews, along with a quality wine selection, bourbons, and much more. Free pool on Tuesday nights, shuffleboard, karaōke, and the classic «ladies night» specials.

Also — if you’re a frequent rider of the NJ Transit 126 Bus, they have happy hour drinks just for you!

The best kept secret in Hoboken is right around the corner from you! The Ale House on 11th and Willow is quickly working its way to the top of the Hoboken social scene thanks to a change in ownership and a complete overhaul, inside and out.

The Ale House, in the space formerly occupied by McMahon’s Brownstone Ale House, was taken over by new ownership a little under a year ago and the changes they have made are incredible. A plethora of large flat screen TV’s line the perimeter of the space and brand new beer taps yield the freshest and coldest beer around.

The new look at The Ale House boasts a friendly staff, jukebox and FREE games including pool, darts and shuffleboard for everyone to enjoy. It has transformed into a neighborhood bar where you can come in with a group or by yourself, to watch a game or just grab a drink, and always feel welcome. Entertainment is plentiful, with live music or a DJ being featured on most weekend nights.

I guess I should write a review here. I’ve been here a number of times. Short and sweet review: The bar has a great staff, reasonably priced beverages, and free pool, darts, shuffleboard, and popcorn. I’ve never had an issue. Also, it’s one of the few places to have karaōke in town (even if it’s only once a month: P)
If you want quieter, come during the week. You want a busy night, come during the weekend.
For a bar off the main drag in Hoboken, you can’t get much better than this.

The fact this place gets 4 stars shows you what a scam Unilocal can be, have been trying to give it zero forever, just keeps getting worse and I assume that being empty in Hoboken maybe it’s one of them launderers of the money variety! Frighteningly horrible… the fact that it’s perennially empty, expensive, and this is the service you get, you’re an idiot if you think this is 4stars!

I’ve given this place many opportunities to gain my loyalty since it reopened under new management. I’m done with it after my recent experience. The female bartender was not attentive. Our glasses sat empty far too often while we tried to get her attention. My arm was getting tired trying to waive her down. She must have been overwhelmed by the 2 other customers in the bar. We had more than 5 beers each without a single buy back.

Cannot understand the authenticity of the reviews, have been going in since the remodeling and it is always so sterile, and as for talk of service being great I’m afraid that’s tosh. Not once has a barman/​lady ever actually done anything aside from serve drinks eventually then slinked away. Look at how empty this place is all the time! I wish them well and it is my closest but have tried to get a drink there 2x in the past 2 weeks, first time doors locked 20 mins after opening time, last night walked in to an empty bar, i.e. No patrons and no staff! Waited at the bar for 2 minutes nothing, unless it was DIY night, that’s bizarre! Good luck!

Stumbled upon this joint on a Friday night. They have a pool table and shuffleboard. Awesome bartender, Brian, told us about $ 4 mystery beer night where he reaches into the cooler and pulls out a surprise beer. Who can resist?! Got a Stella, Modelo, and a Peruvian beer. Love this place. Will be coming back. Also they have $ 5 half pitchers of bud or coors light.

Really fun bar that is dog friendly. Free super yummy popcorn, great prices, and a shuffle board and pool table in the back. It gets crowded pretty quickly because it’s not a huge space. Other than that, great atmosphere!

Tough to beat the Ale House for happy hour. A good variety of beers on tap, shuffleboard, pool table and dart board. I’ve been told they have a pretty good league going for all three.
Oh and a juke box. Huge plus.

I’ve just moved to Hoboken from Manhattan. For as much as I didn’t want to move, places like Ale House ease my pain. It’s a solid spot. We stopped by on New Years Eve, and the bartenders were on point — the key to keeping a crowded bar from complaining. We had a good time and will be back very soon.
