We had a lovely dinner here. We had the spinach and artichoke appetizer, the meatloaf and the prime rib. All were well cooked and delicious. The waitress was so sweet and wonderful. The food took a bit of time and one thing had to be sent back but they were very quick to rectify.

We were seated right away and everyone was very nice. The price of food was reasonable for the location. Everything came out on time and proper order. Food was good and the rite temperature! Now the bad. The place needs remoldeling very dated! Other then that 5 stars

Let me say that I enjoyed the food here. Being a vegetarian, they did not have any options on the menu other than salad. I asked the waitress, if I could substitute a Portabella mushroom with roasted red peppers for a burger. She checked with the kitchen and said yes. When we received our bill we noticed that the charge was more than the burger. She charged us for a Portabella mushroom with crabmeat. Only she never came back to tell us that there would be an increased charge or give us the option to have the crab meat on the side for my guest. When we asked her about this bill, The waitresses response was, «that’s with the kitchen told me to do» There was never an offer to give me the burger price or any kind of apology.

What a great surprise. Got a living social certificate for this restaurant and decided to try it. It is a Irish bar/pub inspired restaurant that offers drinks to your hearts content and a variety of food options. You could get typical bar type grub, salads, desserts and full dinners of seafood, Italian and American cuisine. We went for lunch and it was busy but was waited on and served in a timely manner. They offered us 5 or 6 lunch specials along with the regular menu, but they take $ 2.00 off the dinner prices BC u don’t get soup or salad. no biggie as the portions are HUGE! I got the marsala chopped steak special with mashed sweet potatoes and asparagus and it was only $ 8.95… delish!!! Mom had chicken Parmesan with angel hair… it covered the entire plate plus she said it was tender and flavorful. I was told they do have a kids menu for only $ 3.95 for any of the items. Downside… if I had to give one… both comments didn’t bother us but may bother others so wanted to mention it. It is a very old building but inside was not old fashioned, just a little outdated, but its a pub so who cares. Also some people are ignorant and only like dining with younger diners. I was the youngest one there being in my late 30’s, not that I minded one bit, but I was told from a few local people before I went there that, «a bunch of old people go there and you may feel like you are at a retirement home.». It didn’t bother me as I was going to eat, not socialize or go clubbing. I figure we are all going to be old one day, and older and younger people go where they get great food for reasonable prices so don’t let ignorant people with their negative comments prevent you from trying it. It looks like they were building an deck with an outdoor bar that should be up and running by memorial day. I will definitely go back with the kids for dinner for a night out and you should give it a try as well. Cheers!

First let me say the bartenders and happy hour are great. Last night I took my family to dinner with three babies in high chairs(resv. were made) we sat down at 6:10 pm and ate at 7:45 what a disaster… filets were to be med rare and rare all three were well done. two of us sent them back but the kids had to go to bed so we did without any dinner… babies 10 months ordered carrots and potatoes the also came at 7:45.after complaining we were told we did not have to pay for the steaks sent back(they were only cut open not a bite taken) OHREALLY why would we. Our waitress(it was her first night was horrible, she brought the check without asking if anyone wanted coffee or dessert… children do like dessert… I know this place could do better, a few customers came over and apologized for coming in after us and being waited on before us.

Had a great dinner experience. French onion soup is awesome. The prime rib melts in your mouth.

Back again last night and stellar as usual! The spinach artichoke dip is still a star of its own. Had the cod special last night over angel hair — huge portion cooked perfectly. Wife had shrimp and clams over pasta in marinara sauce, also amazing. Our server was Nicki last night and although it was a very busy and crowded night, she was amazing. So we’re Helena and Mary working behind the bar, extremely busy but always spot on with everything! It’s a must if you’re in the area and hungry!

Love everything about this cozy friendly restaurant. Where to start? If you like Magaritas ask for Helena behind the bar. I am a margarita snob. And this is the best. If you come prior 6pm ask for Jen for the absolute best martini. I had assisted in booking my girlfriend birthday party here. They could not do enough. Mary(the coordinator of events) was tremendous is making sure all went well. She was confident and caring and understood the significance and importance of the party. She was very instrumental. The timing of the food was impeccable and the taste and quality was phenomenal! We had Sara and Olivia as our servers and were there from the beginning to the end. I am pretty sure all 28 guests left happy ! The fire places upstairs and downstairs played a nice touch too. This summer there will be an outdoor deck /bar … Can not wait! We sometimes just come in for dinner as each and every employee remembers your name especially the Chef and Owner Pat. Periodically will come out of the kitchen and greet the customers. Who does that any more? After a year of coming here we feel as if we are not just customers but coming in to see friends. Did I mention the Specials? Amazing dishes each and every time. If you leave hungry it is your own fault. Lastly, the food is so fresh and each dish cooked personally. Nothing boxes or frozen. Try it. You will be back!

Went here for the first time on a Friday night around 6. The bar had a good crowd, but we were the first to be seated in our dining area. Hostess threw the menus on the table and told our waitress to bring a high chair. As more and more tables were seated I noticed the lack of hostessing skill. The menus were just tossed at the seats and the hostess gone before the people even got to the table. Our waitress was great– she had a lot of tables come at once so she was busy. But she was very friendly and accommodating. She also knew the menu well. My kids split a meal, which she brought on 2 separate plates and I always appreciate when they do that. They do not have kids cups or a kids menu that is written down. For entrees I had a Michelangelo chicken entrée for dinner. It is supposed to be in a brandy cream sauce. The sauce tasted like packaged brown gravy. Other than my entrée the rest was good. Roasted red pepper soup was fantastic. Cajun burger on a pretzel roll was good. I’ll try this place out again and hope to increase my rating then.

Went to Johnny Apple’s for Happy Hour yesterday. Had a great time watching their amazing bartender, Stephanie. It’s pure entertainment watching her expertly navigate the bar. Her drinks are great and she does it all with a smile. Food service was good, too. We enjoyed a delicious appetizer of crab stuffed mushrooms. We will definitely be returning.

This is up there on worst places I’ve ever eaten. Location, service and all that is fine… but the ACTUALFOOD was completely a waste. I felt like Chef Ramsey would come in and flip out on the chef for how bland the food was. Worst Filet l ever got but then again… l shouldn’t have gone to a place that wasn’t a steakhouse for a Filet to begin w so that’s my fault. Anyway… take the money you would spend here and just hit up Applebees or something.

This seems to be a nice little watering hole for the local townsfolk. I happened upon here on a night where a fun band was playing(love junk) and had an awesome time. There are a lot of smallish rooms in this bar, so little gatherings could be held, or you could just sit and eat. The bar itself is huge and surrounded by lots of big tvs. My only mini-complaint is that the dance floor is about the size of a postage stamp, and with fun bands playing here that could be problematic. I picked at some bar food while I was here and quite liked it. I highly recommend the crab bread. Also, they make a mean martini here. This is a pretty cool spot and I’ll be back!

I have been here a few times for dinner and/or drinks. The bartenders are always great; friendly, attentive and pleasant to speak with. I have had the cheesesteak rolls which were quite good and a burger that was just alright. I enjoy the ambience and comfortable atmosphere here. I have only frequented the bar area and have not sat down for a meal in the dining area. They do have karaōke some nights which can be fun if you’re into that. Mostly an older crowd and normally is not too busy as the night gets later.

Most of my points are for the décor, which I really like. It’s quite cavernous inside and usually most of the dining rooms are closed off during the week days. However the bar is lined with huge flat screen TVs and they light real candles for the mood. I’ve never had their food but their mixed drinks are decent. However their beer leaves a lot to be desired. Their selection isn’t huge and the last time I went my boyfriend got seriously skunky brew. I mean funk doesn’t even begin to describe the aftertaste. I’ve only used this place as a glorified bar and now I’m rethinking that. This place could be better than what it is, which is a shame since it’s such a nice location.

By far the best restaurant in the area. Service is very good and the I have now probably had some of the best chicken and veal dishes I ever have experienced. But what really sets this place apart is the value. The menu ranges from wonderful tasty appetizers to full dishes comparable to the finest high end famous restaurant’s in downtown Philly but without the excessive price. Happy is how you will leave! And the bar is so much fun to hang out afterwards!

Do yourself a favor and go down the street to the Churchville Inn if you want a meal of this caliber. All dishes were presentation in a nonchalant manner; there was no flare. Very unappetizing. Please take and pass«Plating 101». I felt like I was being served a meal at a nursing home. Tomatoes in the salads were big and hard. If you’re going to have hard tomatoes like that, why make them so huge? The bread doughy, Stroehmann-like quality. Celery soup light and tasty. Tilapia and crab dish was good. Potatoes were good. Meatloaf good if it were a Salisbury steak, tasty but not as a meatloaf; ingredients were mixed up.

I will start by saying if I could give 41⁄2 stars I would. we showed up here for a real early dinner or late lunch… not rush hour. Service was great, very friendly and accommodating staff. We started with the seafood sampler appetizer, couldn’t ask for better Holland’s finest Crab Bread with Clams Casino and Scallops Rochelle $ 9.95 For the entrée I opted for the Filet Trio, A trio of medallions of Filet Mignon, veal, and chicken, sautéed with Portobello mushroom and finished with a Brandy Demi Glaze. Tasted«GREAT» and fork tender My better half opted for the Michelangelo that consists of Sautéed chicken with fresh spinach, prosciutto, and Mozzarella cheese, topped with a brandy cream sauce. She liked it but not as much as I liked mine. We didn’t have desert on this visit, but next time we will…

While visiting my brother in Philly, he and his missus took me here, which is a Friday tradition between them and their neighbor buds. It’s a very cheery place, which I later learned was built from an 18th century farmhouse. Maybe George Washington slept here and Ben Franklin scored here. The warmth and coziness was appreciated as it was during a heavy snowstorm. Not particularly hungry(thanks Sonic foot-longs on Route 13), I opted for liquid refreshment. The Yuengling drafts were very flavorful(Yuengling is quickly becoming one of my favorite beers). I worked up some room and ordered the shrimp basket. The Eight plump fried shrimps were quite good, though the breading was a tad burnt. The side caesar salad was especially enjoyable and made me feel a bit better that I ate something healthy that day. The garlic bread croutons were plentiful and tasty. The entrees looked good. One of the guys ordered a veal marsala dish which he said was great. I think my brother and his wife had a pasta dish. Where I live, nothing like Johnny Apples exists. Maybe if I travelled to Williamsburg, VA, I might find something like it.

I really was excited about visiting you, Johnny Apples, after passing by many times and reading your on line menu. I really wanted to love you, I came in with a very hungry belly and a heart filled with anticipation. Our server was so sweet, as I twist my finger into my dimple. She was a petite, cutesy blond with sunglasses adorning her head. She was sugar & spice and everything nice, but dumber than a box of rocks! She could not answer one question, without running to the kitchen or manager. There is no drink menu or tents, but they will make just about anything you have in mind. Their house Chardonnay is a California Barefoot, which I love and has won several Gold medals. With four choices of where we could dine, be it the Pub, which also features it’s own menu, as well as the dining room menu, a patio, a deck or in one of the beautiful dining rooms, we opted for the latter. We started off with their signature Crab Bisque which was a delectable bowl of some of the best bisque I have ever had and perfectly laced with sherry. We each ordered own own half dozen of Clams Casino, which were loaded with bacon, green pepper, onions and tough diced clams. They would have been good, if the clams were tender. I had originally ordered Oysters Rockefeller, but they were out. My plate came out with a nice sized strand of dark hair. I was brave, removed it, did not complain and ate most of my clams. Next we shared Seafood Spring Rolls, which were in house made and filled with shrimp, scallops, crab, bok choy, cabbage, carrots and seasonings. These were very good and served with a wasabi sauce and a teriyaki glaze. Our meals came with your choice of soup or salad and a potato & veggie or pasta. The salads were nice and decorated with shaved carrots, which I love. The dressings are homemade, but they forgot to put the blue cheese in mine. Hubby had an incredible Dijon, honey dressing, not at all sweet. Once again, I had a hair on my plate, still not saying one word, I dove in. Hubby had the large cut of Prime Rib, which would have been a small cut anywhere else. He ordered it rare to medium rare. It came out as a very fatty cut of ice cold medium well beef. He said the flavor was very good, but it was roasted yesterday and leftover to serve. Guys have a prime rib sandwich special when this happens, do not serve old overcooked cold meat to your guests. I had inquired if they had Bearnaise sauce, before making my choice. When she returned from the kitchen to explain they did in fact have it, I ordered the Filet Mignon. This is funny now, I am laughing, when my Filet came out with a pitcher of a beautiful Bearnaise sauce on the side, the steak was swimming in a rich brown gravy. Hello, my medium rare to medium steak with Bearnaise sauce is medium well and swimming in brown gravy? Something is so wrong with this picture. I chose pasta and it was hard and dry. We finally spoke up! They did take the entrees off the check, but they also lost two potential return guests. Hair is one thing, but you had better get my entrée right! Built in 1724, photos of the many era’s, for this three story building are posted on the walls. The first photos depict horse drawn wagons, in front of a huge building with a covered porch. I like to believe it was a Saloon downstairs and a hotel filled with tired guests. Once inside you picture a renovated mansion. The set up of the well dressed tables in the various dining rooms, which ultimately connect to one another, with the main dining room hosting a beautiful stone fireplace. The décor is grand with blown glass lamps hanging from the ceilings and matching lights adorning the green walls. The antique molding stands out, as well as the grand stairway leading to another floor. The large outside patio has umbrella covered tables and fresh herbs growing in the large pots. The«Pub» is a very large and inviting room, with tables and a grand sized bar. Johnny Apples, also offers catering , Banquets and Brunch, lunch & dinner buffets. In addition to all of this, the lower floor features Holland Pizza, which they own and offers anything from pizza, pasta’s & sandwiches to wings. Do take note that the menu items on line for Johnny’s is different from their new menu, prices have also been lowered. Summing up this review, is my note to the proprietor’s of Johnny Apples. You have so much going for you with your location, a beautiful building, which features a pub, patio, deck and gorgeous dining rooms. Your menu selection is well diversified for Continental cuisine. Your food is too hit or miss. Bring in a good chef or train your cooks. Wear hair nets! You will sell more booze and make more money if you promote a selection of cocktails, beer and wine. Become more than the local watering hole. Bottom line, you have a potential gold mine here, but for now, it is not panning out!
