Specialties

We are an Irish themed pub that specializes in craft beer. Pouring 20 on draught and roughly 120 in bottle/​can. Our other main focus is using fresh local products for all of our menu items.

History

Established in 2011.

The BlackThorn got started when we walked into a building that had been closed for 3 ½ years in need of serious renovations. So we gutted the entire establishment and started from bare bones. After 11 months some bruises and cuts we finally opened. Since then our clientele has been growing and growing. I would like to thing its because of always fresh and delicious food but not to mention the 11 beer events that we have done.

The food was okay. The bartender/​staff seemed very unprofessional. At one point, she was sitting on the bar fridge and sipping a beer. The bathrooms were not very clean and there was an odor coming from the kitchen area by the bathrooms. Very good beer selection though!

This place was nice. Nice atmosphere, clean and the staff were excellent and super friendly. We tried the fried pickles which were all cornmeal and no pickle. The beer was just ok. We tried the fish and it was all good. Nice place with decent food.

First time here — the wait staff are super friendly and quick to refill drinks. The Guinness Cheddar soup is an absolute MUST. Great atmosphere — beautiful exposed brick walls, right in the historic area of Holly.

This place is average. So if you’re looking for an average burger, average atmosphere, average soup, etc … This is the place for you!
I ordered the Pub Burger and was hoping for a juicy bar burger, hand-​formed and seasoned by the cook working the flat grill– but was sadly disappointed. The burger was a preformed flavorless piece of warm meat sitting on your everyday average bun.

Come here a few times a year because its close to home but its never been overly impressive. I had the blue cheese burger which was decent. After being open this many years they still have the worst fries around. Its like a wad of greasy potato strings thrown on your plate. There seemed to be only two servers for the entire place & the table next to us came in after, ordered & received their food before we even got to order. Service has never been their strongpoint. Will most likely come again but ill just have drinks.

If you like beer and fantastic food, then you can’t go wrong here. They don’t have an extensive food menu, but I guarantee its all excellent and well thought out. Their beer menu IS extensive. With a rotating selection of awesome micro brews, and samples of anything that peaks your interest, you’re sure to find the perfect pint. This place is a class act, and worth the drive from anywhere.

I drink so, I don’t go to pubs, but I was invited after a funeral. And since I’m vegetarian, there was very little for me to choose from. But they have this portobelo mushroom burger which is VERY GOOD. A tad too much sauce/​juice on it but I personally and not big on condiments.

This bar is the best in Holly and the nearby area by a long shot. All of the staff members are friendly as can be and the draft beers are incredible. It’s great for any time someone wants a small-​town, low-​key but eventful and upbeat night out.

Wow, outstanding menu. I really had a difficult time selecting something for lunch. I ended up getting a salad (at a pub, I know, crazy). I was pleasantly surprised. The spinach salad with grilled chicken was wonderful. The chicken was grilled perfectly moist on the inside and crisp on the outside. Other people in my party got the burgers and fires which were gobbled up and smelled wonderful. I understand they have specials and the turkey dinner is a big hit. All in all an impressive menu and friendly staff.

The acoustics in the bar are not that awesome. That was probably my biggest frustration with our meal, as there were two pretty large tables of very rowdy guests. Had they not been quite so loud I think everyone could have spoken at a normal level. We were there around 8pm but it was nearly impossible to hear anyone at my table.
The food was pretty good, but we waited quite a while. If you get the blt, they aren’t kidding about having ½ a pound of bacon on it. Our waiter wasn’t that attentive but the other waitresses seemed to be. Maybe just an off day… Side salads were pretty big, and the fish and chips came with more than enough. As long as you aren’t in a hurry or want an intimate meal, you’re fine here.

Awesome place. Great beer selection. Very typical warm irish pub décor without that dank claustrophobic feel. The bartenders KNOW THEIR BEER, and i work at a brewery. The menu is irish but not run of the mill. We ordered the irish nachos, bangin. My only complaint, theres always 1, more peppers.

I love the courtesy of waitstaff at Blackthorn! They just closed the kitchen and yet they gave that warm welcome and made us food too! Friendly atmosphere! I ordered the steak cooked to medium well and the waitress suggested to me politely that I should consider ordering medium! She was spot on about overcooking and I was able to enjoy steak the way I wanted! I wouldn’t rate high for this spot primarily for food, but as a hangout place to grab a few drinks and munchies, this definitely is a place to go!

Pretty decent. Definitely a pub fan right here. Usually the food is heavy and full of comfort and the beer good. This spot was just that!
Bangers and Mashed– Huge portion and very very good. Too much for me to eat alone but, I’m a big mashed potato freak and these were flavorful, savor and delicious!
Beer Cheese Soup– Delicious! Homemade and just the right amount of beer flavor.
Service– good. The waitress was there just enough times and didn’t have a problem when my friend didn’t care for the Beer Cheese Soup. I have no complaints about this part of my dining.
Décor– Typical British/​Irish style Pub Bar. Lots of wood, old school looking and big.
Ambiance– Pretty typical Pub. I think it could get loud and rowdy on some nights but, was tame and mild this particular night. I really enjoyed the vibe of downtown Holly.
Overall, I would definitely revisit this place with friends from the area and hope to be back again one day soon!

A cute little pub to grab a few drinks and a quick meal.
Good craft beer selection and they offer a few vegetarian options for those not interested in a burger or wings, like me. We received a free appetizer with our meals because of some ongoing promotion at the time, which was nice. I had fish, which was cooked to my liking, nice and flaky, while my husband ordered a sandwich and a salad, both of which he liked quite a bit.
The service is decent, not outstanding, but more than serviceable. It took awhile for us to get our check after we were finished with our food and drinks, but I think our waitress was covering someone else’s tables as well, so no biggie.
Nice ambiance, the décor is great, plus it’s a good spot in a centrally located part of downtown. I did notice it was a little loud for what seemed like such an intimate setting, with the din of clanging dishes and loud talkers everywhere, but perhaps that was an off night.

DUDE this place is the best!!! Unbelievably great food!!! High quality ingredients, well prepared, top not special and the daily soups ROCK!!! Seriously their food is perfect!!! The beer selection is out of this world! The atmosphere is upscale and very nice!!! The wait staff is awesome with a capital A!
We have been coming here for the past 4 months straight for lunch and don’t get sick of it!!!
