H&R Block

This review is for Patrick Connelly, who has prepared my taxes for the past 2 years. Tax time is stressful for people like me with complicated returns (1099 and freelance income), but Patrick helps make the process easy. He is experienced in preparing the taxes of freelance entertainers, actors, models, etc and knows all the details required to properly file your return. He helped me write off all my business expenses, and student loan interest. We got through this year’s (2015) entire return in under an hour.
While I feel H&R’s fees are quite high, the service that you receive from specialists like Patrick are well worth it. His calm friendly demeanor and interesting travel stories are an additional bonus!

Although the lady who filed my taxes was very kind, she did not have the level of expertise to file my tax return with my full confidence (at nearly $ 400 nonetheless!). She had to ask 4 other tax professionals for «help» which is completely unprofessional and frustrating. The appointment itself took nearly 3 hours and I left feeling very uneasy and anxious as to whether or not they were filed correctly. In addition the office is very cheap looking and there is no way to protect all the sensitive documents that were being reviewed. It is literally one small room with several clients seated within feet of each other, anyone with an inkling of knowledge on identity theft would not have felt comfortable. I’m sure they are some sort of violation of consumer identity protection.

Update: After confidently going to Patrick now for 6yrs I thought it was best to give him the 5stars he deserves.
I was just in there yesterday, putting it off until last minute. But seeing Patrick made it all easier. He’s so relaxed and makes you feel at ease, I had so many questions prepping for my next year taxes as everything will start to change because of starting a new LLC. He was able to confidently give me all the advice so I can forward think how to prep for this year and not have a mess at the end of it.
I couldn’t consider going to anyone else now. I trust this guy!

Howard Small was my Tax Guy and he was awesome. I came in with a couple of problems & different states & he handled things wonderfully!

Worst tax experience of my life! The woman who did my taxes was rude and couldn’t figure out how to deduct payment from my refund. She kept hovering over me when I had to electronically sign for things. She would tell me exactly how I was supposed to scroll down to sign (there were two options and it upset her if I didn’t do it her way). She scolded me for sending a text message. She treated me like a child and even worse wouldn’t allow me to have my refund check mailed to me. I am never going back there.

I was dreading having our taxes done. They were a nightmare last year. Although, my gut told me that was mainly due to the person who handled them last year– I was still a little worried. After my husband and I decided to go with H&R Block this year, I started researching locations. I read these reviews and decided to make an appointment with Patrick, hoping that our experience would be just as good as the other reviewers’. It was! Patrick was so nice and knowledgeable. There wasn’t a question that he couldn’t answer, and trust-​we had quite a few. He’s also a pretty funny guy– so it was nice to chat with someone who has a sense of humor while doing something that otherwise would be pretty boring. I highly recommend him– seriously– I never write Unilocal reviews. He’s great! I am even going back so that he can help me do an amendment from a previous year. If you haven’t had your taxes done and need someone to help you, this is the guy.

No one is excited to do taxes. However, Patrick Connelly has been making mine exciting for the past 3 years or so. It was such a blessing to find him. His dry sense of humor and his yearly full production vacation videos are actually something I look forward too. Not to mention, he always does my taxes seamlessly and makes the whole experience enjoyable. Sure h &r block charges an extreme amount for the service… but at the same time… you don’t even notice because they just take it out of your federal. Whatever… doing taxes suck. Doing taxes with Patrick is like a well paid for ticket, to a great show.
