Wedr 99 Jamz 99.1 Fm

I’ve been listening to 99 JAMZ for my entire life — literally. It’s one of only a couple (legal) radio stations for «urban» music in the South Florida area playing Hip-​Hop & R&B.
I admit, I’m not as avid a listener as I once was, mainly because during any 2-​hour stretch, it’s highly likely that the same «song of the moment» will get played more than twice. I’ve heard a certain Drake record 3 times in 2 hours recently. Other than that, most of the songs seemingly play on a loop — the same songs every hour on the hour. There’s way too much music out now and from the past for that to be happening.
When I need a laugh on the way to work, I sometimes enjoy the crazy antics of the Rickey Smiley Morning Show crew. On the way home, if I’m finding myself about to drive off the road from exhaustion, DJ Entice is one of the best at spinning a crazy mix on the «Drive at 5» in the afternoons, so I sometimes tune in for that as well.
For 99 JAMZ to be one of only a very few options, it’s an alright station. Their claim to fame is being voted #1 in Miami for Hip-​Hop & R&B, but that’s really more from a lack of quantity than quality.

Dear 99 Jamz,
You are # 3 on my preset stations in my car. You also get 3 stars. You are an all around 3 in my book. A good station with a good mix of R&B, Hip-​Hop, and Rap, you have jammed on my radio many times.
But, you too, like Power 96, have a terrible tendency to play a ton of commercials and then to overplay the music that you do play. WHY??? That’s all I have to ask. Because you have a pretty good station going, and you’re the go-​to Hip Hop channel in Miami, so I have to wonder why all the commercials and talking?
I will give you credit and thank you for exposing Miami to the newest hip-​hop and rap in the industry.

99.1 delivers the best hip-​hop mixes for the drive home from work. Whenever I remember to tune in, I always hear the songs that I didn’t know I was missing, and new ones that I’m dying to hear again.
All other times, 99 Jamz is only so-​so in my book. I never seem to stick with it when I’m scanning the airwaves for music while in the car. And I’m not a huge fan of the morning show (Ricky Smiley, I think). Overall, my #2 hip-​hop station in Miami, except when it comes to the 5:30 mix, of course!
