Hidalgo’s Cafeteria & Restaurant

No AC $ 9 menudo that had no hominy and was just watered down soup. The tacos came plain and no fresh onions or cilantro. 8.99 for 3 tacos dry rice and beans. Aga de tamarindo is more like Agua con azucar. Great assortment of candy but that’s about it. Very underwhelmed

We loved loved this restaurant. Food was excellent and the staff friendly. We will be coming back and telling our friends and family.

This is a hidden Jewell. Nothing fancy, but the food is authentic. Makes me feel like I stepped back in time and I’m in a small Mexican town every day restaurant. Friendly service and although the menu is limited, the food is delicious.

I love this place, it has true Mexican flavor, it’s small and humble but has great tasting. You have to try the horchata it’s awesome!

Though limited menu, staff is friendly, speaks both English and Spanish. Takes credit cards. Parking limited but Post Office across the street. Café Con Leche & Empanadas were tasty.

This place is decent. When I’m hungry and passing by I’ll order to go. It seems quite authentic. The drawbacks are that, for the area it seems a bit pricey ($ 17+ for 6 tacos), and on top of that they are stingy with the hot sauce. 6 tacos gets you 2 — 1oz? containers. Then you pay, if you want more (the hot sauce is good). Even though the place is dated, they are fairly consistent.
If you’re in the area on the weekend, you’re better off going to the back of the flea market, great food and great prices. And maybe Mariachis to go with you’re people watching. (park on the South side) North is loco

Nope. Just nope. I got a hot limonada in a questionable cup, my tacos de carne asada were really de barbacoa, and worst of all — I was given a cup of recycled guacamole… I mean someone else ordered guacamole, and didn’t finish it… I was the unhappy recipient of a freshly stirred ¹⁄₃ cup of guacamole. Never ever, ever again.

I prefer to go a few feet down to Puerto Vallarta. The service was nice, but the food wasn’t all that. Cute little spot though.

Delicious! Very authentic Mexican food. Service was good, but my husband and I were the only guests.

$ 8 for three massive tostadas with chicken and beans? Not to mention they were fresh, light and delicious. Three stars for being sketchy – although that’s possibly just the bonafide Homestead charm I’ve come to expect from this area code.
Maybe it’s authentic? This gringa has admittedly never been South of the border, but the dining room leaves something to be desired. And I was completely alone. Have I stumbled upon a hidden treasure? Or was I not supposed to go here? Hopefully the Cartel will overlook my sudden torta cravings if I sneak in here once a month or so.

Great coffee, great sandwiches. No more, no less. Good stuff!

Little place with great salsa. Spicy and perfect. Nice people, good rice and beans perfectly seasoned. Will be back!

Muy buena comida mexicana. Fresco. Hacen el guacamole en el momento y yo diría que los tacos y flautas también.

We came here on a recommendation from Juan, a worker at a plant nursery. What a fantastic place. The dining room is small and cozy and the food is fresh and delicious. We had three dishes and they were all flawless. The gorditas al pastor were the stars of the show though. Best meal we’ve had outside of Mexico. Thank you!

you can’t find good mexican food in miami…, every time im in homestead i choose to eat mexican, even if im not that hungry. i found this place right off south dixie highway by pure coincidence; it was open so i went in. my immediate impression was ‘damn, where am i?’ my friend who was married to a mexican girl for years said, ’ i feel like im in mexico’. there was only one table with costumers, the rest were empty but the restaurant itself is not big, i would say it probably has 4 tables and 4 booths. piñatas hanging from the ceiling and a tv tuned to mexican novelas. we sat and immediately ordered pico de gallo and chips. the pico de gallo was awesome, fresh cilantro, tomatoes, onions… good stuff. then i had a taco platter. 3 tacos al pastor with rice and beans. the tacos were awesome. handmade corn tortillas and the meat was so tasty. i probably could have eaten 3 more of those. my friend had two tacos (al pastor and bbq) and we both had a mandarin jarrito. the bill came up to 20 $ including tip. CASH ONLY. I can’t really comment on the service as it wasnt either good or bad, although it would be better if they spoke english…
