808 Sports Leagues

All the sports are fun and the people who put it together are awesome!
Been playing for a few seasons now. In the beginning I wanted to try something different than hanging out with my normal circle of friends. Lol, I actually hang out with the peeps I’ve met through this league more than people I knew when I moved here! I feel like everyone is in it for the same reasons, they just want to have fun playing sports and quality peeps to drink some beer with.
(and it’s always a laugh telling people you have to leave because you have an adult kickball game to get to)

I moved back home to Oahu in 2015. My buddies stayed in the mainland so it felt like I was in a new city. A friend told me to join a kickball league. Last time I played, I was still in grade school.
I have to thank the 808 Sports League owner for letting me join a team. I registered late and was placed on a waiting list. Luckily, I was able to get on a team. It was the best thing that happened. We had a great team. We barely won any games, but we all clicked. I’ve met some great people through happy hour after the games. I also found some quality flip cup players.
Dodgeball was also going on at the same time. They added Flag Football in the summer. Kickball was offered again in the fall along with the first season of Volleyball. I joined both sports for the fall season.
Best thing to do is give it a try. You won’t regret it.

Let’s get one thing straight. I am horrible at sports. How horrible? Let’s just say that one time I was playing flag football and I gave myself a concussion… by tripping over my own feet. Or another time where I was playing softball and I always seem to run away from the ball than run towards it (balls are scary)…
Point being, I should stay away from sports.
Enter 808 Sport Leagues. They allow the ability for ADULTS to play the sports we loved as children, kickball and dodgeball, as well as some more «normal sports» including flag football (which I will stay away from) and coming soon, volleyball.
I can only comment on the kickball, but the league is divided into 4 tiers, Super Casual, Casual, Ballers and Corporate. As you may expect, Super Casual are for those who just want to enjoy themselves… and if they happen to win, hey! an extra bonus! Then you have Ballers, those who may claim themselves as true athletes and play for blood. Naturally, I play on one of the Super Casual leagues… and as we are yet to win a game this season, I still enjoy playing week after week.
The price isn’t bad neither. For individuals, like myself, it comes out to around $ 10 bucks a game, but it includes a team T-​shirt, refs to officiate games, and priceless friendship from your teammates. You play a minimum of about 8 games a season and play at a number of parks located around town. The league is actually SUPER organized and has a great community of members and teammates coming from all over.
After each game, you can count on happy hour at a few of the leagues sponsors to brag about your greatest play, discuss strategy for next week, or… beer pong? (anything goes during these happy hours)…
I may not be the best at kickball (totally expected), but when I make it to first base or make that rare catch, it’s nice to have teammates to cheer you on for making your best effort. This seems to be the overall feeling of the league in general and makes for a great way to spend an evening after work.

The Fall 2013 Kickball League just ended and what better way to end the season than with a healthy dose of Unilocaling. I’ve been an on-​again off-​again kickball league-​er for a few years now.
808 Sports Leagues is very organized, and no matter which division you’re in (super very casual to extreme baller) you may find some tension between teams, players and refs.
In any case, at the end of the night (actually, the end of the season) the proceeds go to a charity picked by the winning teams. Whether I’m a winner or a looser, I’m defiantly a fan of that!
Also, I’m a fan of having drinks and food following every game. CHEERS!

Awesomeness is all i got to say. Kickball league is alot of fun, sponsored by local bars so a little happy hour after the games.
I am waiting for them to add more sports, but the kickball is a blast.

I’ve been involved with the league since it started back in 07. Great referee and administrative staff and fun games. If you like kickball, this is the go to league for it.
On top of that, it is for charity. Your kickball team gets to pick a charity of their choice and if you win the championship game (or if you are a runner up in your division), the charity receives a check for an amount of money depending on the amount of money given from various sponsors.

Meeting great people, playing the best playground game ever post elementary school, wwwwwwaaaaayyyyy past elementary school. A lot of the cool peeps in the 808 Sports League are Unilocalers, so they know their way around the block.
I’m both excited and weary of what this new season will entail. I think it includes WINNING and DRINKING. What a combo!

KICKBALL.
There’s a league for this?!? For serious.
The 2012 season will mark my 5^th year playing in this league, and it’s just gotten better as the years have rolled on. And after all those years, talking about 808 Sports Leagues and the kickball (and other sports) leagues they put together has never gotten old, especially trying to explain to tripped-​out bar-​goers on a Monday or Wednesday evening in Varsity or Rock Bottom why there are over 100 people walking around in off-​beat, fluorescent or downright bright shirts …
Stranger/​Future Kickballer: «So … kickball?»
Me: Yes! There’s a league. And I’m on a team.
S/​FK: «I haven’t played kickball since elementary school!»
M: … (Don’t worry, we know every one hasn’t. :))
S/​FK: (looks out over the sea of forest green, «WOW» pink and KOC blue shirts, among the many colors) «So, how many people are playing in this league?»
M: Well, there’s 24 teams, about 15 – 20 people per team, so you’re looking at about 400+ adults playing kickball weekly.
S/​FK: «That’s a lot of people. So, you guys have rules and everything? The red rubber ball?»
M: Yup. Pretty much the same as schoolyard rules, except no one gets picked last, nah mean? And we even got playoffs and championships!
S/​FK: (looks around at the bar again, tries counting how many different color shirts) «So, you guys play, and then come out to the bar?»
M: Yeah — it’s all part of the experience. 20, 30, 40-​somethings playing kickball, then chilling out at the bar.
S/​FK: «I’m sold. Where do I sign up?»
… Unfortunately, by the time we hit the bar in our red/​green/​blue/​pink/​orange/​yellow/​safety green shirts, rosters are closed for the season and you gotta wait to sign up for the next one.
Sound fun yet? NO?! Well, read Justin U.‘s review. «Great way to meet new people» is like the unofficial motto. Hey — relationships have been started and blossomed over the game of kickball — when’s the last time that happened at a pick-​up game of basketball?
Kickball season runs from March to June, with sign-​ups in January-​February — don’t be *THAT* guy that sees all the 808 Sports Leagues bright shirts and wants in after the ruckus starts! (And if you happen to miss it, there’s usually a Fall season of some sport — Flag Football, another Kickball season or … dodgeball?)
