I don’t know if I can say their cookies are better than the other two competitors, but they are at least comparable and have great packaging! They so have an edge up with their chocolate bars.

After going to the Big Island Candies factory in Hilo, this store was a little disappointing. It’s pretty small and I had the hardest time finding it. The one thing I was tasked to do when I got there was to help my mom buy shortbread cookies that weren’t in gift boxes. It’s much cheaper to just buy in regular packaging. I asked the sales people about it and they said they don’t do that except at the Hilo store =(I had one job! I ended up buying two variety boxes and one pineapple shortbread box but only after I had many samples of the cookies! They gave me a stamp card for the next time I buy more stuff at the store but I don’t think I will be using it anytime soon. I did notice they had some nice seasonal packaging for their cookies. It was probably for the upcoming lunar new year but I didn’t think it was worth it. I love Big Island Candies but just feeling disappointed that they did not have the cookies in regular packaging.

Back for my New Year’s tradition, Fukubukuro at Big Island Candies. They have the most awesome cookies and treats, and to get it half off, is worth the wait in line. Lance Duyao, director of retail operations from the Hilo store runs it with thought for both the customers convenience and the products he puts in the box.
It’s always nice talking to the people in line, both the new ones and the ones we see in line every year.

Awful customer service! Spent nearly $ 600 and was not offered any assistance the 20 minutes I was there. Had to wave people down twice to get any attention and was greeted with an unpleasant glare from the cashier when I left my boxes behind the counter when they became too much to carry.
The young man that rang me up was kind enough to help me out to the car but at that point I already had a sour taste in my mouth. This will not be store of choice the next time I need to pick up gifts.

This is my «go-​to» place when I need to buy a nice gift that anyone will be sure to love. Standard goodies are the mixed assortment of chocolate dipped mac but cookies. The potato chip mac but chocolates are the bomb!
Great quality locally made munchies! Blows away the similar products made by other companies, IMO in terms of quality, packaging and taste.
Sample before you buy, and even just because! If the sample is not out on display, you can ask and they will bring you one of anything from the back.
Lots of staff keep things moving. Quick and friendly service!

I recently received an inquiry from a friend in Boston asking me if I received their candy basket gift at my current employer. I was somewhat embarrassed to say «no, when was it delivered?». After a couple weeks of searching and asking, there was no note inside the shipment and it went to another department at my job. They didn’t know who it was for and began eating the goodies. I was just disappointed by this Big Island shipping experience.

The marketing genius/​spokesman for Big Island Candies got some quality airtime during Black Friday on KGMB’s early morning segment touting the deliciousness of their new lemon brownies. And that they were having a hard time keeping it in stock because it’s so good.
Well the way he described it just made me want to go down to the store and buy it. Immediately.
If you ever tried any of their goodies it was most likely received in the form of a gift. Hawaii people are big on gifting or omiyage. It’s kind of like a pre-​requisite to be considered local.
I remember small kid time & first receiving these chocolate dipped shortbread cookies from my California-​Kona aunty who came over to Honolulu after her trip to Kona. These cookies used to be packed in a red paper bag, not individually wrapped like it is now. Those cookies were awesome. Even though they would all eventually stick together because of the humidity they were still ono.
Same deliciousness now as it was back then. Often imitated but doesn’t compare. They make the best chocolate dipped shortbread cookie out there.
So I was able to check out the Ala Moana store over the weekend & there was an ample supply of lemon brownies. I don’t know if I was more disappointed that they had it in stock than if they didn’t have it in stock. Crazy, I know… read first sentence of my review again. Maybe the $ 13 price tag for 8 pieces was a deterrent.
OR Big Island Candies just does a fabulous job all around and knows how to keep their customers happy.
5 Stars without a doubt.
And, those lemon brownies? It was soft, buttery and very lemony… but too lemony for me. It was reminiscent of something I rather not say. I prefer the chocolate covered brownies over this one. Get the chocolate covered ones and no can go wrong.
Just know if you receive anything from Big Island Candies as a gift you are loved by someone very much.

Big Island Candies cookies are the BOMB! If you want a great gift for the family, friends, or office, buy the chocolate dipped shortbread cookies. There is nothing like it. This is a must have when visiting Honolulu. It’s in Ala Moana mall, so it’s not a special trip to come here.

I love Big Island Candies! They have a lot of delicious treats that you can buy as gifts or to enjoy for yourself. They have really delicious dipped shortbread cookies that come in different flavors (Milk, dark, and white chocolate dipped, green tea dipped, lemon dipped… the list goes on!). They also have brownies and biscotti’s, among other things. The brownies are DELICIOUS!
The workers are always friendly and very helpful.
The store is always stocked and the pre-​packaged assortment boxes are neatly displayed. Their boxes are also cool, pretty, colorful, and creative. They also have samples so you can try some of their items. You should definitely stop by Big Island Candies… I bet you’ll want to buy some for yourself and for others.

Big Island Candies, how I love your Dipped Shortbread Cookies, Mika Mints, and Rocky Roads, it’s hard to not eat more than one… or five. This is my favorite store bought dipped shortbread.
Big Island Candies is perfect for gift giving. They have a variety of prepackaged assortments at price points from party favor to corporate gift basket, wrapped and ready to give away. Stop by their showroom and sample their treats before you buy. The Ala Moana store doesn’t have the same variety as Hilo, and you can’t watch them dip things in chocolate, but if you were like me, waiting for the next person to come from Hilo to satisfy your cookie fix, head to Ala Moana as soon as you can.

While walking around, we came across Big Island Candies. Like Honolulu Cookie Company, they offer shortbread cookies. There are free samples throughout the store, all of which tasted delicious. Employees weren’t all that friendly but it was really busy the day we visited. The store is neat and clean. Lots of cool gift boxes to choose from. A great place to find a gift for a loved one.

I like be big island candy! They have the beat customer service. All the candy is so nicely displayed. You can try the candy before you buy it. That’s the best!
I’m from the big island and I loved going to the Hilo store. They make the candy right in front of you. Its a beautiful factory.
I love all the candy. I like the brownies too. You have to get some. Go in and try some in the store for free.

I like how you can sample almost everything before buying. This place caught my eye the first day we were at ala moana. It looked new and the packaging was pretty.
We tried a lot of things and decided we wouldn’t buy anything at the moment since it was the start of the vacay but to wait til the day before we leave to buy it so it wouldn’t melt.
Macadamia nut toffee covered with milk chocolate: ⁵⁄₅: one word: YUM! It was all Individually wrapped toffee. There were 12 squares and each one was delicious! The toffee was perfect, not too sweet and not too much nuts. It’s probably one of the better toffees I’ve had. Definitely something to try if you like toffee!
Coconut shortbread: ⁵⁄₅: buttery and coconutty. It’s the perfect combination where you won’t feel overwhelmed with the flavor. The cookies last for a pretty decent amount of time. It’s been a month and they still taste great!
Also sampled mika mints candy and those were also delicious. Can’t say I was disappointed with any of the cookies that I tried! Packaging is also pretty nice too!
Next time I’m back in Hawaii I will be visiting this place again!

Nice store, located on the North side of the mall, near the escalators. What a surprise to see a Big Island Candies Retail Store at Ala Moana! But I’m sure they’ve been doing a brisk business there.
Not like the Big Island factory, where you are greeted at the door by someone holding a platter of samples, but there were samples next to some of the displays.
After browsing through the store, which is not huge, they sell all of the things available to everyone on their website or in their Hilo Store. The only bad thing is, they add the shipping costs in to each box of goodies. Apparently, and I haven’t checked for certain, but it may cost you the same to order from their website and have the items delivered to you instead of fighting the crowd.
Same Big Island Candies fare; known for their chocolate dipped shortbread cookies, which are still as good as 25 years ago, when I first discovered them living in Hilo. Contrary to belief, the other Cookie Company at Ala Moana is not the original, but similar in taste and price.
Just a warning.;entering this store could be deadly to your wallet, so don’t go shopping here on an empty stomach, like I did! Definitely a good place to buy gifts for your office or friends and family.

This place is a favorite of mine.
I love their seasonal packaging and always look forward to the special holiday boxes. The staff is usually great but during the holidays some of the seasonal staff is a bit rough around the edges.
My favorites include green tea and white chocolate dipped everything!

The customer service in this store is unbelievable. I suffer from a tree nut allergy and am not able to eat pretty much any of their products, however at the recommendation of several friends I found myself in this store last year shopping for gifts to send back to friends and family on the mainland. With tons of samples and being unable to taste before I buy the sales associates assistance proved to be key in ensuring that I purchased the best product (s) possible.
The store is well laid out and has a large assortment of products from plain shortbread to shortbread dipped in white, milk and dark chocolates as well as green tea, etc. They also carry brownies and biscotti and other delightful treats. Most recently I came across a coffee flavored biscuit that apparently is knock your socks off delicious.
I have now sent back over 30 boxes of cookies to friends and family and they all claim that these are the best cookies they have ever eaten. Sadly, I’ll never know the magic that is these cookies, however had it not been for the assistance of the sales associates, my friends and family also would not know just how delicious of a product this is.
If you’re not sure what to get someone, you truly can’t go wrong with something from here.

I love that they have samples of each of their cookies to help you decide before purchasing. My Favorite of them all was the Green Tea Dipped Shortbreads… SO ONO!
One odd item they had though, was the Chocolate Dipped Cuttlefish. Yup, CHOCOLATE DIPPED CUTTLEFISH??? who does that??? Big Island Candies does! We tried a sample, and it wasn’t good enough to make me want to buy a bag, bu then again, it wasn’t like YUCK! it was… in-​ter-​es-​ting…
Located in Ala Moana, these cookies make great gift ideas for friends, relatives, co-​workers, or even yourself! ALOHA!!!

What an amazing find this place was! Prior to my flight, I was looking to stop by Ala Moana and get some gifts for people back home at Honolulu Cookie Company. After not being able to find it, I cam across this place and glad I did.
The goodies at Big Island Candies are super delicious! Not only did I end up getting gifts for others, I got stuff for myself. The Dark Chocolate Covered Toffee with Chili are little pieces of heaven! I’m not even a big fan of dark chocolate but this stuff is really good! The added heat you get at the end from the chili was amazing! The Pineapple Manju was really good! The pineapple and shortbread made for a great combination. I also purchased a box of the guava cookies, and the shortbread gift box with different flavors (coconut, macadamia, chocolate). Everything tasted really good and the samples were definitely appreciated.
The employees here were very nice and helpful! They were quick to give recommendations and that is probably why I ended purchasing more than I intended on getting. The items here are a bit pricey but of great quality. Most definitely a great place to purchase last minute gifts before returning to the mainland!

probably the islands’ most elegantly presented chocolates and cookies i have yet seen. their chocolate treats seem utterly delectable. i dared not have any… but couldn’t resist the MATCHA DIPPED SHORTBREAD COOKIES. that’s where i can’t walk away. brought a box of these home with me and wish i had brought home 3 or 4 more boxes, just for moi.
perfect shop for gifts to bring home… just gorgeous but even more heavenly to the bite.

I love this store and its so easy not to go crazy in here because of the prices. But the stuff in here is so ono, its easy to look the other way when buying it too.
Favorite here is the milk chocolate dipped caramel cookie and the mac nut brownies. This place was crazy during the holidays.
They didn’t have what I wanted in the main store so I had to go to the temporary second floor location. Glad they bad this as a backup.
