Unfortunately I am still Dr Yamamoto’s patient. I have to go back to his office one more time. But it is OK, I like to write the review as I could not believe my experience today. Today I went to his office for 2 weeks check up after I had a surgery.
I asked him the question because I had severe asthma symptoms next day after I had a surgery.
I have never had an asthma symptoms last 15 years.
At first, he told me the pain medication caused my symptom. Dull !! I declined to take the pain medication, so I did not take any !!
His explanation was just ??? I just wanted to know how many anesthetic medication he used when I had a surgery.
It took for a long time to do extraction when I had a surgery, He gave me a lot of medication. I needed to know exactly the doses, so I can tell my another doctors to be cautious about it in the future.
In stead of answering for my question to me, he opened the door and told his one of assistants the answer, not to me. He just left the room. How rude and arrogant he was !!!
I am sad to see this kind of Dr once a while.
Also the person (her name is Lee) who gave me the consultation before surgery had also unfriendly and arrogant attitude. Over all people who work for him are just like him.
My general dentist office is not like this.
They forget their patients are their customers.
A bad customer service from his workers, A bad bedside manner from Dr Yamamoto, I regretted to chose this dentist office although my general dentist referred to me.

He’s a total sleaze. Most other oral surgeons and dentists in Honolulu dislike dealing with him. ***And he’s not above faking ratings on Unilocal to generate good reviews. I’m an insider in the business– I happen to know that he’s severely messed up several wisdom teeth extractions and the patient had to go to the ER. He also takes hours to remove wisdom teeth — which can be removed in minutes. I wouldn’t go to this «dr.» he’s a moron.

Writing in response to terrible customer service experience. Very stressful and unhelpful — and haven’t even gotten the opportunity to be a client yet!

Just completed what is called a stress test for the tooth implant placed by Dr Yamamoto at the time of tooth extraction. I have three other implants and those required more than the visits I had with him. Only four visits. Consult, extraction and implant, one month check and finally the stress test today. Not only were the Dr and staff knowledgeable but
they were also efficient. Though the office is always busy, I never felt rushed. They took the time to explain thoroughly each part of the entire process. Would recommend for your tooth/​teeth implants.

Great job! My son had 6 wisdom teeth removed. First is a consult, then the surgery at a later date. We were the first patients of the day. The receptionists were warm and friendly and the nurses great. Dr. Yamamoto asked if we had any questions. The whole procedure took about an hour. This is my third child to have wisdom teeth out here. Every time has been a great experience!

Dr. Yamamoto was awesome! I had two horrible experiences years ago with two other dentists, but Dr. Yamamoto did such a great job and I did not feel a thing during the extractions. I will be seeing him again for another procedure and would recommend him to anyone :)

I had an appointment at Dr Yamamoto’s Aiea Office today to extract a few teeth.
I was greeted with warm smiles from both of the receptionists and within minutes, is was escorted to my room.
When Dr Yamamoto entered the room, clearly explained my options and proceeded to numb me. I could barely feel the needle:). The procedure was surprisingly pleasant and quick!
During the procedure, Dr Yamamoto and his assistants would always make sure that i was comfortable.
I would highly recommend Dr Yamamoto to anybody who needs dental surgery.
I been to other oral surgeons, he’s the best!

What a wonderful experi

Just had all four of my thirds (wisdom teeth) removed this morning. Only one was impacted, the experience was surprisingly plesant. I am so pleased with the service I recieved and the attention that was given to make sure I was okay during the procedure. No pain, no discomfort. super quick. The office staff was incredibly nice, the estimate was on point and left no surprises and I walked out almost wishing I had another reason to go back in. Oh yeah. the follow up next week.

My impression after speaking to one of Dr. Yamamoto’s receptionist was appalling!
Not only she came across awfully rude and obnoxious and most likely has personal issues with her self esteem, she literally blew my mind as I listened to her conversation over the phone to a referring doctor, rolling her eyes at least 9 times and impatiently repeatedly bitching about how «she don’t know what she’s doing?»
As a patient this is really bad! I hope Dr. Yamamoto will address this attitude asap.
I really did not make out her name because she had a very strong japanese accent.
Other than that the clinical side was excellent, doctor assistant was very caring and kind. I would definitely recommend Dr. Yamamoto again for my dental implant needs.

i had implants placed by Dr. Yamamoto. talk about a scary thought. but was not bad at all. i actually felt pretty silly about how scared i was for so long. now i am back to chewing everything ive been missing for so long.
his assistant was amazing. very simple instructions so that i could remember and follow. and they called me the next day to remind me again.

Where do I begin? I was refered to him by my current dentist for extraction for a very badly destroyed tooth that they couldn’t save. There appearenly have been a miscommunication because when my app was scheduled, it was scheduled as a consult, not as consult and surgery which I found out the day before when Dr Yamamoto’s receptionist called to confirm. I tried to explain that I don’t need a consult alone to determine whether I need an extraction, I already KNOW that I need one.
The receptionist kept repeating like a parrot that I need consult first and then separate app for surgery. I told me if that’s the case, I need to cancel and find another surgeon who can see me for extraction ASAP.
At that point, receptionist told me that if my tooth was really bothering me, I should just come in and they will see if they could fit me in. She also started talking about talking a full mouth exray before the surgery.
Me: I just had the full mouth exray taken by my dentist last week
Her: Well, this is different exrays, we take panoramic exrays.
Me: I know what it is. I don’t see why I should take full mouth exray again when I am coming in to have work done on ONE tooth and my dentist office already sent my exrays to you so its not going to happen.
That should have been a red flag right there-​you are coming in for one thing and dentist wants to take exrays that you definately don’t need? I didn’t fall off the turnup truck yesterday.
When I came into Dr Yamamoto’s office, the same crap started again. Receptionist told me that I was scheduled for consult only and that doctor couldn’t do surgery today. I was seriously pissed at that point and told me that she was the one who said that they would fit me in. She said then“well, you may have to wait until 5(I came in at 3). Fine, I just wanted to get this over with.
After I had a chat with Dr Yamamoto, he said that he couldn’t see me for surgery and I had to reschedule another app. I then told him that his worker just told me that he COULD see me at 5. After some consultations with his clearly incompetent office staff, he told me that since she DID say that, he will have it done today.
I was told to come in at 4:30 so they can prep me and give me an injection of Novocaine. Noone started on me until 5:00 when Dr Yamamoto’s assistant put on some topical numbing agent and left me sitting for another 20 min. By the time doctor came to give me a shot, nothing was numb anymore. He is good at shots so I hardly felt a thing. He then only waited few minutes before proceding to pull my tooth. I felt everything (horrible pain that is) and yelled for him to stop. Here is how our conversation went:
him:you shouldn’t be feeling anything
me: I do! maybe you should wait a little for novacaine take effect
him:hmm.gives me another shot and immediately proceeds to pull again.
me: wait, it still hurts
him: well, its not going to work. You need to come back for another app and we will put you under.
Are f*%&$#$ kidding me?!!
Me: can you give me more anastetic?
him: well, I guess I can numb your whole side instead of just one tooth
Gee, you f^$%#% think???
After he numbed the rest of the area, I felt no other pain and it was fine. He immediately took himself off without further ado. I can understand that he wanted to go home and I was his last patient but common.
I was ready to leave but I felt very sick-​my heart was racing and I was shaking all over. I couldn’t understand what was happening and asked a nurse. She said:
«Oh, its because of epinephrine (or however you spell that). This is one of the sideeffects, he uses it along with other anastetic». Thanks for letting me know after the fact, especially since I specifically asked if he was using regular Novocaine shots and I wasn’t told that he was using this cocktail that gives you major sideeffects
The only I would go to this doctor again, if he is the last dentist on Earth

I had my wisdom teeth taken out last week by Dr. Yamamoto and it was a pleasant experience thanks to him and his staff! I took out all 4 teeth with laughing gas and was prepped on the procedure and costs beforehand so no surprises. The doctors and nurses made sure there was no pain or discomfort every step of the way. My mouth was not severely swollen the next day and I did not even have to use any pain meds (although this may vary from person to person and may depend on the position of your wisdoms).
Wait staff were all very helpful and extremely nice. They switch between their Ala Moana and Pearlridge offices so it is pretty convenient. The only negative thing is that there may be a bit of a wait during your appointment because this doctor is so popular!
As a side note, his office’s interior décor is so modern and nice, not to mention very clean and tidy! All in all, highly recommended. His office at Ala Moana is suite #1720, not #1420.
