Karen and her staff are an awesome bunch to help my son prepare over a 3 to 4 month period for the SSAT exam. Sure standardized tests aren’t fun to take, but almost everytime I picked my son up from his once a week tutoring sessions, he’s always had a positive comment about «learning math and reading/​writing concepts» better at Excel. I could tell he was highly engaged.
For SSAT prep, not only do they teach test content, but they also teach test strategies to maximize being successful on the exam. My son had an okay score on his first attempt at the SSAT exam, and Karen was honest about a few more tutoring sessions to help my son solidify his success on the second attempt at the SSAT exam. Most people would pass that off as their way of making additional money, but she was very genuine about it. She and her staff are very well versed witch each students unique abilities and needs, as well as the parents educational goals for the child.
I can’t thank Karen and her staff enough for the curriculum and session frequency she mapped out for my son. He had a significant improvement on his SSAT score where it was well above the median scores of each of the private schools that he applied to. The results: He got acceptance letters to Punahou, & Mid-​Pacific Institute, and a waitlist for Iolani. We were so thrilled with the results, that I have no hesitation taking my daughter here for SSAT test prep in the near future.

Karen and the crew at Excel were absolutely great. They are efficient, professional, and very skilled at tutoring and preparing kids for taking tests. My daughter spent one day a week with them for a few months and scored well enough on her first attempt at the SSAT test that she didn’t have to take it again. She was thrilled and we were too. It also highlighted another admirable trait of Karen and Excel: she told us our daughter didn’t need any more sessions or to take the test again. Any parent will appreciate that honesty — she could have preyed on our «parent fears» and suggested more prep and taking the test again and again, just to earn more money. If Leila needs any tutoring or test preparation in the future, I know where she’ll go. Excel gets my highest rating.
