Stopped by to pick up some kava tea! I wanted to bring a little relaxation on the plane back to Cali. The owner was very thorough in teaching me how to strain the tea. I would’ve totally ruined it cause I thought it could be served hot! Anyways! He was genuine in his thoughts & words in regards to my questions! I left happy! Will be back for sure!

This place is truly one of a kind and amazing. First and ONLY place I might add that I will ever go to drink and buy kava and hang out. Daya –the owner — is extremely helpful and very kind! The minute you step inside you just feel at ease and at home. Honestly the best experience i’ve ever had at any business-whether it be a restaurant or even a regular retail store.(: COMEHEREIFYOUWANTTORELAX!!! They have events weekly as well with live music… just talk to Boss D!

This is the best kava place in town. I’m a lifelong Hawaii resident and a Kava lover. Like many people, I did not feel any effects from kava the first time I tried it. Frankly, I never waste my money drinking freshly made kava at kava bars. Instead, I purchase bags of dried kava($ 60 for 2lbs at Fiji Kava) and make it at home. When I do it myself, I use a lot less liquid so that the end result is one cup of extremely potent kava. Drink it on an empty stomach and voila! I find it much more enjoyable than the mind numbing effects of alcohol. Fiji Kava is the cheapest kava establishment that I know in the state, and the kava is some of the best quality. The owner is also very friendly and knowledgable. A $ 60 bag of kava will last me about 15 uses, but I like to make it strong.

mouth numbing mud water. lol the guy was nice, i’m writing this review a little late, i forgot his name. He was knowledgeable & was very informative. Explained how it is done & where he gets it from. Felt a little different after having Kava. It’s an acquired taste. The bf didnt like the flavor but like the feeling it gave him. I’ll stick to my liquor when i need to feel buzzed lol We’ll go back when we visit Oahu again.

Authentic kava shop, brought to us by an authentic Fijian. Daya gets his kava from the source and offers you on premise enjoyment, as well as takeaway bottles and/or fresh ground or powder. Stick around and enjoy three shells; let it take hold and slip off into a South Pacific moment or two. Mahalo!

I came in one day to try a cup. The only thing I felt was a numb tongue. Apparently, you need to drink at least 2 or 3 cups to feel anything. The owner said that some people drink a gallon or so a day(is that tolerance?). I asked him if he knew what active ingredient was in it but he didn’t know. I didn’t feel like sitting around for a while drinking kava so I left to go do some errands. On the way home, I was passing the exit for Fiji Kava and decided to go back and pick up a 1 pound bag with a strainer to bring back home to the mainland. Upon making that purchase, he poured me a small cup of kava, I think as a thank you. That was cool.
I don’t remember his name, but the Fiji Indian guy who runs this joint is very welcoming and«holistic.» By that, I mean he likes to tell you about how kava will change your life and how it can cure lung cancer. I mean, who really knows(I don’t think there are any published double-blinded experimental studies). If you’re like me and just want to try it, this is probably the best place to be because it seems the most legit and you’ll learn all about the herbal product effects from the owner. I haven’t been to any other kava place to make any comparison.
So, if anyone wants to check out the herbal wonders of kava, I would recommend checking this dude’s hole-in-the-wall joint out.
Parking and finding the entrance might be confusing at first but it’s not impossible so just keep an eye open for the Fiji Kava banner visible from the street.

This place rules! Yes it’s in an alley and off the beaten track but what gem in terms of originality and heartfelt vibe! Pick up reggae jam keeping things lively with the kava flowing. Daya, the owner makes it up right and shares the method to prepare, cultural significance, and is a wealth of knowledge on Fiji, should you be interested.

Best kava! Best atmosphere! No matter if you are an experienced kava drinker or new to it, Fiji Kava is the best place to visit! Daya, the owner, is an amazing person! He represents the true Aloha spirit. Daya has great stories to share and can answer all of your questions about kava. Not to mention he offers great prices. Fiji Kava is a must if you are on Oahu!!!

Great hole-in-the-wall kava bar on Dillingham Blvd. across from Honolulu Community College. Daya, the owner, sits down and talks with you the first time you go there, and poured me almost half a gallon of kava to drink for free! I love it, it does not taste like dirt, more like dried root, which it is. I’m part-Hawaiian, so know of kava(awa to Hawaiians). I bought all three strengths of kava that Daya makes himself, grinding the dried root into powder. Waka, the strongest, is dubbed«moonshine» by western drinkers. The Fiji and Vanuatu kavas are less strong. I also bought a cheesecloth like strainer to make the kava. An enjoyable place to go and talk story with Daya. My friends go at night to the all-you-can-drink for $ 25.

This place is the real deal! 1 pound dried shredded kava is just $ 25. The gentleman running the place is a Fiji native and knows his Kava. He supplies much of the Kava in the islands. I have two other kava sources, now that I’ve found this place I will go nowhere else, there’s no need to.

If your in the mood for a relaxing enviorment with great company. Simply put you have to try Fiji Kava. Being a «noob» to the Kava experience, I have to say it was a unique flavor. Yet very enjoyable. For those who have not tried Kava before, well it is totally worth it. Kava, also known as yaquona or grog, is a mild analgesic, diuretic and stress reliever. It is prepared using the root of the piper methstyicum plant, part of the pepper family. Drinking it will make your body lethargic, tongue tingly and head fuzzy. A feeling of «yes, all is right in the world» will pervade. Kava also occupies a central place in everyday life in Fiji. The drinking ceremony is a crucial element of diplomacy and all of Fiji’s important events are distinguished with kava consumption. Although non-alcoholic, it is the social lubricant, the deal sealer, the friend maker. Where there is a village, there is kava. Daya is a fantastic host and welcomes you to enjoy the Kava experience. He will explain the traditions and how it is made, what health benifits it has to you, and more. And when he cooks, it is some of the best Vegitarian food around. As for parking, Across from Honolulu Community College(H.C.C.); Drive into the parking lot Between 1001 and 1007 Dillingham. Circle to the backside of 1007 take your right like your heading back to Dillingham, Just don’t pass the exit gate. And you will find him on the right side. Under the Ramp. Just look for the Christmas lights.

Completley agree with Susan. I was looking for a place to get good Kava, and Daya is the most amazing individual. I was a first time drinker of Kava and he gladly walked me through the process of how it is prepared, where he grows it, why he drinks it, why people drink it. It was the best experience throughout my time in Oahu. If you want to have a great time: Highly recommend meeting Daya, chatting with him for an hour and buying his Kava, the best on all of the islands… then, if you are adventurous go on a hike to Moana Valley or anywhere else… while you are drinking your jug of Kava… an amazing experience which words cannot describe.

Yay! I’m the first reviewer… well, I better be since I added this business to Unilocal. So, I was craving kava(Yes, you read«craving») and my friends had told me about this place. All they told me was that it was cross from HCC and by «club something». I drove past there several times, but couldn’t find it. But the other day, I finally seen the sign! YES! Okay, let me first say that I never use to like Kava before, but now I just drink it for the feeling rather than the flavor. The only other places on Unilocal that says that sells kava is «diamond head cove» and«kava roots». Daya, the owner is awesome. When my bf and I walked in we were only going to pick up a bag to bring home with us, but after talking to him for awhile we decided to stay and share a bowl. Because we only purchased one bowl to share and it was our first time there, he offered us another bowl of kava which was half powder(the one we purchased) and the other half fresh.(He actually grinds the kava at this business and packages it and distributes it to other stores.) I will tell you that there is a BIG difference in flavor and you can feel your tongue and mouth get numb almost immediately. We ended up staying there a lot longer than we intended to because Daya was so kind as to refilling our drinks(for free) and even letting us try some of his Fijian food that he had made. I will most definitely be coming back here. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings people come in to play music and to just enjoy kava. He also does a buffet of food for $ 10.
