Known as the place to go for take-out Chinese roast duck, roast pork, pei pa. The last few times I have been there the char siu has been a little dry because the pork is very lean. I like Sing Hing Meat better for char siu now.

NOGLOVES??? Talk about sanitation people! I wouldn’t even give this place 1 star I don’t care if the food is that good…

I had pretty high expectations for this place since it had 5 stars on Unilocal.Fong’s did not disappoint. I ordered the roast pork — a standard dish that I use as a control to compare all Chinese restaurants I go to. I have to say this roast pork was literally the best I’ve ever had. Anywhere. Roast pork basically has three components — the skin, the fat, and the lean meat. All three hit the spot at Fong’s. The skin was sooooo crispy and crunchy. I’m salivating as I write this review. The fat just melts in your mouth. And finally, they managed to keep the lean meat super moist and juicy. If I lived in Hawaii, I’ve make this a regular spot for sure.

Due to the many 5-star reviews of Fong’s Meat Market, I decided to try their char siu. First of all the family working there was very courteous and pleasant to deal with(5-star). After purchasing the char siu, I walked over to Nam Fong on Maunakea St. to buy their char siu. I should state that I am a regular customer at Nam Fong. I wanted to compare both together. After arriving home I had to try Fong’s Market char siu first. Fong Market char siu was very sweet and tender. It was much sweeter than the Nam Fong char siu and more tender. So if you like a very sweet char siu, go to Fong’s Market. The Nam Fong char siu though not as sweet, has a lot more complex flavors. I do expect char siu to have at least some hint of hoisin sauce and Nam Fong’s char siu had it as well as a hint of garlic, green onion, soy and honey. I could not detect theses flavors in Fong’s Market char siu. Notice, I said«could not». The flavors may have been too subtle for me to detect. I bought fresh look fen from the factory on Kekaulike St. I used Fong’s Market char siu to make chow fen. The bright red coloring from the char siu came off and stained the look fen. Nam Fong’s char siu doesn’t have much coloring and it doesn’t stain noodles or discolor broth. I gave Fong’s Market char siu 5-stars because of the 5-star service and because of the many loyal customers who consider their char siu 5-star. I thought their char siu was alright, sweet and tender.

New to the islands; one day hanging out with the retirees at the harbor. One of them said«hey would you like some char siu?» My reaction is always«when in Rome?» I tried it, I’m instantly hooked. Everyone I encounter I recommend them to Fong’s. Picking up a friend and heading there right now.

My grandparents owned a grocery stand near Fong’s when I was younger. I always walked over to Fong’s for char siu and roast pork. I’ve always remembered them having the best char siu, roast pork, and roast duck in all of Chinatown. hands down. It’s not too sweet and definitely has that great savory taste. Although my grandparents sold their stand a long time ago, my family still goes to Fong’s. We remain loyal customers and tell everyone about this place. I’m not just saying this because they are family friends, but because I stand behind the perfection of their food. Check this place out. you won’t be disappointed!

There’s not a whole lot to say about Fong’s other than that is the best place to get your chinese meats on the island. It may just be a dirty half stall in chinatown with some less than pleasant servers, but what it lacks in charm it more than makes up in quality. Anytime I am looking for quality char siu or roast pork there really is no competition. This is «as good as it gets.»

Best char siu and roast pork. Especially love the outer texture on the meat. You can’t get it like this on the mainland.

Delicious and reasonably priced. I got half a pound roast post and a half roast duck for only$ 17. The roast pork was very good … crispy skin and not too salty. They need to sell the au jus that comes with the duck, omg! I was planning my next trip before we even finished eating. Just remember … they only take cash!

Glistening, dripping, hunks of meat whose scent hangs heavy in the air. Seductive. Intriguing It’s warm goodness yearning to be tongued, caressed and savored. The first nibble. Firm yet yielding. Juicy. It’s flavor sweet, flowing to a gentle saltiness. Food porn at it’s best.(Sorry ladies, Fong’s Meat Market is not the place to find the perfect Asian dude but it is about meat). Fong’s is about two things and two things only; char siu and roast pork. Often described as the best in the Islands it truly lives up to the hype. The char siu is meat candy. Sweet with a kiss of anise spice and aroma, not excessively fatty, never dry. The flavor has seeped very deep into the meaty core. Unmistakable sweet flavor of roasted pork, blackened bits add a bitter complexity. The roast pork is mildly salty(not excessive — you can eat a plate full without a beer). Very good balance between rendered fat and porky goodness. Juicy throughout with no dry, overcooked bits. Outstanding, cracklin’ skin that last for hours(un-refrigerated). Many repeat visits over the decades. The only thing that’s changed, the wooden chopping block is gone, replaced by plastic cutting boards. They still push free bite size samples on you as you wait. Simply put, outstanding.

Between Char Siu House and Fong’s Meat Market, they are both leading contenders. CHARSIU Just enough sweetness with a well rounded blend of seasonings. Not too burnt, not too fatty, just the right amount of fat to lend to a moist chewiness. ROASTDUCK Not too salty like Nam Fong’s with a nice chew to the meat which most importantly was not dried out.

Fong’s my go-to for roast duck and char siu. My family swears it’s the best on the island. My mother and I stopped by Fong’s today to buy some meats for my grandmother’s anniversary of her passing. Still cooked out from Thanksgiving, we wanted to just do a simple ceremony with my late grandma’s favorite meats. Maybe it’s because of Black Friday or maybe people are still stuffed from the night before, because for the first time, there was no line at all. Nice! CHARSIU($ 10/lb): Tender, perfectly seasoned sweet porky goodness. There’s not a lot of fatty pieces, so you know you’re getting good quality cuts. My kind of meat candy! ROASTDUCK($ 23 for a whole duck): The lacquered crispy skin is usually what I look for in roast duck, Fong’s got their technique down. The meat itself is also cooked well, just moist and tender all around. Our roast ducks have always been consistently plump and meaty. ROASTPORK($ 10/lb): I’m not sure if it’s the«best roast pork in town» as others have put it, but it’s pretty damn good. Very moist and juicy with a nice meat-to-fat ratio. My favorite part about eating roast pork is the crispy skin, and Fong’s definitely delivers. The hard part about today is waiting to sink my teeth into these meats. I need to chill out and wait until the Buddhist ceremony is done. The incense sticks have to burn out first before I can touch any of the food. Until then, I’m just going to patiently sit close by, quietly guarding the food… while fanning them incense sticks so that they burn faster, ha!

All I gotta say is WOW! Drove from Waimanalo just to try it out. I swear that was the cleanest, crunchiest and juiciest Roast Pork I ever had! Wish they had rice cooked so I could buy it all at once but it was too early;(had to stop at L&L to pick up some rice and Mac salad. Sad because I wanted to eat it right away before it got cold. But when we finally got to chow down OMG! Never tasted meat so heavenly!!! Already craving some more. Gotta wait til tomorrow though;(going back for seconds!!!

This is seriously the best roast and BBQ pork I’ve ever had. Purchased our first portion, had a little taste around the corner and had to go back to get some more. So delicious we made another trip to Chinatown before our holiday was over to get some more. If only we lived in Hawaii, it would be a regular. Bargain price, would have easily paid twice the price!

This is a tiny vendor selling excellent roast pork! It’s located at Oahu Marketplace and the vendor faces the sidewalk. They offer char siu, chicken wings, and a few other items but their specialty is roast pork. It’s super good, moist, fatty, flavorful, and the skin really holds up even after a 10 – 15 minute walk inside the takeout box. Nam Fong’s used to be our favorite but Fong’s has quickly replaced Nam’s as our #1 spot for roast pork.

The BEST Char Siu and Roast Pork Ever! Being a valid Chinaman. I will stick my neck out on the chopping block.(No pun intended). This place is size of a bathroom. And they only sell that. Plus some Ribs too. Oh yeah, also Dried Shrimp. Awesome! When you visit Chinatown. Go check it out! There’s always a line

This is my go to place for the BEST Roast Pork on the Island. Nothing fancy just order and pay. I love the free sample and our friends love the taste. Crackly skin and juicy meat make for a experience.

Seeing as how this was my first time walking through Chinatown meat markets, I was a little apprehensive. I mean really, whole pig heads and huge trays of intact entrails can be a little overwhelming when you normally get your protein from shrink-wrapped trays and McDonald’s wrappers. But the line of professionally-dressed business men made it a little too hard to pass this one by. Once I heard what everyone else was ordering, I knew exactly what to get. Half-pound, roast pork, $ 5. My goodness this stuff is incredible. The meat is so tender and juicy, with just a small layer of fat that the whole bite just melts in your mouth. But what makes this stuff so good is the skin. So crispy and perfectly seasoned that you’ll be day-dreaming of this stuff every single time you get within a 6-mile radius of Chinatown. Hmm, I think I decided where I’m going for lunch today…

If you like roast pork with crispy skin, you need to try this place. They’re not as popular as Nam Fong but they have pretty good roast pork. It’s a little less salty compared to Nam Fong. They don’t roast whole pigs, they do their in slabs. Just when you think they’re sold out, they go into the back and they bring out another. Most of the time that I go, there is no line. But once a line forms, everyone starts crowding around and wants to buy.
