Grateful Dreads specializes in starting new dreadlocks and maintaining existing locks. We use a combination of back-​combing and crochet hook techniques to create and maintain beautiful, natural dreads!

Maintenance techniques include:

— Tip blunting

— Loose hair & fly-​away crocheting

— Base section separation

— Smoothing of bumps and loops

— Combining of thin, fragile dreads

We also carry a full line of dreadlocking products from out partners at Knot​ty​Boy​.com, including dread shampoo, dread wax and conditioning sprays.

History

Established in 2010.

Grateful Dreads began as a labor of love by owner Dustin Dobos, offering his locking skills to friends for many years free of charge. After gaining extensive experience, Dustin relocated from the Midwest to Honolulu, Hawaii where he founded Grateful Dreads Lock Shop in 2010.

Business Owner

Dustin began his own dreadlocking journey during his college years in rural northeast Ohio. After achieving a respectable head of dreads for himself, he was called upon by many others to help create their dreadlocks.

He did this for many years free of charge, and after graduating from Ohio State University with a degree in Environmental Science, he decided to make the move to Hawaii to expand his business opportunities and founded Grateful Dreads Lock Shop in Honolulu.
