History
Established in 1971.
The Hawai‘i English Language Program (HELP) is an accredited co-curricular program under the Second Language Studies dept at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Since 1971 students from around the world have studied at HELP for academic, professional, or personal purposes, and have enjoyed all the benefits of regular UH students with access to services and facilities on the UH campus. HELP is the Conditional Admission pathway into the University of Hawaii system for students who need to sharpen their Academic English skills before starting courses at UH or in another American college or university.
As a unit of the renowned Department of Second Language Studies (SLS) at UH Mānoa, HELP benefits from an innovative research-based approach to instruction. HELP’s curriculum is content-based and prepares students with the linguistic, critical thinking, and cultural skills they need to succeed in an American higher education institution.
