Fresh taro chips straight outta the oven. Aurite! This is the headquarters where your crunchy sweet potato and taro chips come from!
It’s located in the industrial area of Kalihi and let me say, parking sucks. They have a really small lot and another small lot across the street. Otherwise it’s street parking and everyone knows how tough that can be down here. It’s hit or miss. We came when their small store was super packed so we had a small wait. But it was ok, the staff is very friendly and they have samples for you to try. We took a couple and added some seasonings to try later. This way we could try more but not try too much in case some flavors were not to our liking and we don’t waste our fresh chips bag!
So I’ve read the reviews and knew I had to try the $ 5 bag of fresh chips. You can get sweet potato or taro or a mix. Then you can also dress up your bag the seasonings bar if you want. I love them plain but I also like them with some zesty garlic and nori!
They no longer have food options like sliders on the weekends as I read in some past reviews but on Friday and Saturday they have a coffee drink bar right outside their store.
They also have a ton of prepackaged chips, hot sauces and dips. The jalapeño dip and hot sauces are spicy… so if you’re a girl like me who can’t take the spice, don’t try. This is a great place to stop by and pick up some omiyage since it’s not too far from the airport. They also have a stamp card so make sure you get one.
Ok, I’m going back to enjoy my fresh warm taro chips. This is one of the best off the beaten path local places!

Delicious, served fresh and you get to sprinkle on your own flavor combination. Only drawback is that the flavor won’t stick on the chips as much since it’s not sprinkled on immediately after its cooked. However, still crisp and tasty.
$ 14 (tax included) for a one pound box or it comes in smaller bag sizes for less. You can mix it (taro, yellow sweet potato and purple okinawan potato) or get just taro or just sweet potato. The purple sweet potato is kind of on the hard side, but I still like the variety.
The service is excellent. employees who answer the phone to take large orders are kind, accommodating and professional.

Staff is alway very nice and personable. The chips are made to order hot and fresh, getting it from the source. They have a stamp card so you get $ 5 free order after 10 I think. The best deal is the box of chips, and you can use all the condiments they have to try.

This place was great! Fresh chips hot off the press!!! If you are ever in Oahu near the airport you need to stop and try this place. Taro chips and spicy dip were the best.

15 minutes before they closed, my hubby and I rushed here to try some fresh taro chips. They were so nice they offered us samples and encouraged us to try the different flavors to sprinkle on the chips. We waited not more than 5 min for our fresh bag of chips ($ 5)), it was hot and delicious! They were so sweet they even gave my daughter a sticker. This place is much more cheaper to buy the bagged chips than at other places like Longs.

If you want the best chips in the world come here! They make them when you order them. They come out warm and then you put your own spices!!!
You have to buy 2 one for eating now one for home.

Fresh chips straight from the source. I’ve been here so many times but forgot to write a review.
Atmosphere: not much but a small store front offering amazingly freshly made taro and sweet potato chips and dip.
Service: always someone available to take your order. There is A flavor bar outside. They also have sample chips available for your tasting.
Food: the mixed bag of taro and sweet potato chips. Is always a good choice. You can either get the five dollar bags or the box. You can’t go wrong with the box if you’re going to a party. Make sure you try the habanero or spinach dip! You must flavor your chips outside not doing so well results in less than optimal chips.
Intangibles: You can get these chips pretty much throughout the island but if you want freshly made ones that are out of this world check this place out!

KILAUEA BBQ HOT SAUCE!!! That’s why I had to make a stop here to pick up some for my sons graduation (mini bottles to make a lei)
The small warehouse with street parking and right off of Nimitz HWY. If you have not tried their Taro or Sweet Potato chips go and visit them. They also have a variety of sauces and samples and other gift items for sale. If I was checking in a bag at the airport I would have bought a gallon of the hot sauce.
Will return soon to pick up more sauce. They also have a online store but a trip to Hawaii is FUN!

We always make a stop when we’re in town. It’s a MUST! You know what else is a must? Get that fresh bag of chips when you first come in! It’s only $ 5 and you won’t get any damaged chips like the prepackaged types.
I love that they have the condiment bar there and while the chips are hot, you sprinkle in items such as nori, garlic seasoning. They of course also carry the Kilauea hot sauce which I happily put some onto my chips. The kids of course like the cinnamon sugar.
I have gotten the salad dressing here before, It’s like a single or double serving for $ 4 each. It’s cute, I actually love it but dressing for the price of a salad is a little too much for me. I think I’ll stick with the chips.
I believe now, there is a coffee bar that is attached to the garage area. Although we never order from there and never see the actual menu, it’s a nice accompaniment to the place if you want something to drink.
Parking there is only two spots in the facility. There is parking along the street and across the lot as well. I’ve never had a problem finding parking here.
Totally great place to visit if you’re a tourist like me. But if you’re a local, make sure you get a punch card. The SugaryKids will be back for sure!

I really like this place. My taro and sweet potato chips that I ordered came out hot and fresh. $ 5 for fresh chips in a white bag that you can put your own seasonings in, not bad. Today, I put the nori and garlic seasonings in. Next time, I want to try the BBQ. They also had Kilauea hot and adobo.
Customer service was on point. When you walk in, they greet you and give you a sample pack of their chips. They tell you about the seasonings, then you can walk into the store and order what you want. You can get all taro, all sweet potato or a mix. I prefer the mix so I can get a little of everything.

Great chips, terrible customer service. I was very excited to visit The Hawaiian Chip Company, after trying a bag from the farmers market at Fort Street Mall. I did a little research and found out they had a retail location.
The retail location is located near Sand Island. The parking was not an issue as they offer parking next to their building and also the building across the street, you will see a sign that says the «hawaiian chip company parking» when we arrived we were greeted by the cashier and main representative person a local lady named Jan, she was very nice. Thank you for being so wonderful. There was also a lady in a black shirt Asian lady named Cammy she might be the owner or manager of the retail location, she was not friendly, seemed very irritable and definitely needs to work on her customer service skills, or maybe go on vacation because she seemed like she hate her job.
Upon paying for my bags of chips, I asked if I could get 4 bags of chips from the back room and not the ones on the display shelf. Totally understand that they don’t have «displays» but I wanted bags that weren’t smashed. When asking if they could get bags from the back room, Cammy gave off a very irritable vibe and said the floor did not have displays. I repeated again that I wanted bags from the back and that I’m purchasing 4 12.5 oz bags plus 1 made to order fresh bag, Cammy’s facial expression looked irritated and went in the back to get them. I didn’t even end up getting everything I asked for. Why buy anything at a store if you’re not walking out happy? What a waste of time.
While I really think their snacks taste good, it’s all about the face of the product and your reps who represent the brand. The customer service here needs lots of work, you’re better off buying Frito Lay. My service experience at the hawaiian chip company is forever tarnished by the awful attitudes of the people that work here.

I love that Hawaiian Chip Company is super duper close to my work because I can’t get enough!
For $ 5, you get your own big bag of freshly made taro and/​or sweet potato chips! Then pour on your own mixture of flavors, such as garlic, bbq, and furikake… OR you can get a box size for a little extra. They of course also sell their chips in air sealed bags for easy travel. Make sure to get a stamp card.
They also have their own dips. The jalapeño dip is perfect — not too spicy and just the right amount of flavor. You can buy it as a powder-​type mixture and add your own sour cream, or get it pre-​made.
Best thing about going to the actual factory is you are able to sample any of their products. Can’t wait to go back for more!

These are absolutely by far the best taro chips in the world and the fact that you can get them hot and fresh makes them a zillion times better!
Stop in for $ 5 bags of freshly made chips, choose from taro, sweet potato or mix. After they are in your hands, you can season them with any of their seasonings (salt, nori, kilauea fire, adobo, I think even cinnamon/​sugar, etc). Putting your chips in ziplocs help keep them fresh but if you buy the clear poly bags, I found those work even better (like the kind they sell you kettle corn in at the fairs). I can polish off a bag on my drive home!
I’ve been many times and plan to be back many times too! Everyone is friendly and service is awesome!
There are only a few stalls in their main location (where you buy the chips) but own the warehouse across the street and have a few more stalls there (I can’t believe I’m giving away my secrets).

Fresh made chips to order! Omg heaven in a bag for $ 5! You can add all the seasonings you want to it. Be careful of the Kilauea fire, it catches you right in the back if the throat lol.
Too bad they only have drinks on Friday & Sat. I was looking forward to the boba tea.

Freshly cooked, warm, deliciously crunchy chips. Lots of tasty seasoning options to sprinkle on once the come out from the fryer. My favorite seasoning is the Keawe BBQ. Irresistible! The chips are not oily and simply addicting. As an added bonus, the folks that work here are just so friendly and full of Aloha.
There are bags of samples at the counter and you can buy a bag of cooked to order chips for $ 5. If you prefer just taro, or okinawan sweet potato, or Molokai gold, that can be arranged too. They also sell pre-​packed chips with seasoning, dip mix, and hot sauces. Unfortunately they discontinued the Saturday sliders.
They have a tiny 3 – 4 car lot in front. Limited street parking. Don’t let that deter you. The chips are worth it!
Personally, I plan on visiting the Hawaiian Chip Company every time I’m in Honolulu.

My-​oh-​my, does Lay’s, Pringles, Tostitos, etc. have their work cut out for them! The Hawaiian Chip Company’s fresh taro and sweet potato chips are so addicting and soooo yummy! On top of that, their customer service is awesome!
LOCATION
Look for the mustard-​colored building on Republican Street (the side closest to Nimitz Highway). Republican Street is a long stretch but it’s located in between Puuhale and Mokauea.
PARKING
The store has two marked stalls that are covered right near the entrance of the store but they also have additional parking directly across the street.
BASICS
The store has a nice, fresh wood smell as the walls are made of wood and the employee I was talking to said the walls are fairly new. They offer little bags of chips at the counter as samples. Each bag contains one of each: taro, purple sweet potato and yellow sweet potato (I know you’re thinking: Just 3 chips?! The chips are huge). They have prepackaged chips for sale with many different seasonings and they also sell their t-​shirts, BBQ sauce and dips.
My favorite thing is the fresh chips they sell. You can choose between taro chips, sweet potato chips or a mixture. It’s served in a white paper bag and you actually get more than the prepacked bags. Once you get your chips, you can head on over to the topping bar where you can sprinkle them with sugar, salt, cinnamon sugar, nori, Kilauea fire, Kiawe BBQ, adobo, Cajun, zesty garlic, etc.
EXTRAS
On Fridays and Saturdays, Island Brew Hawaii Coffee and Tea is open for business and they have a counter right outside of the store/​warehouse door. They serve espresso, tea and frappé. My absolute favorite drink is their Green iced tea with calamansi and honey. It’s refreshing and not too sweet.
Both of the businesses, Hawaiian Chip Company and Island Brew have a stamp card and once you fill the cards up, you will receive a free drink of $ 5 off your next purchase.

Once you have these chips, you pretty much won’t ever get any other types. Also, once you had these fresh at the Hawaiian Chip Company, you will never buy the packaged ones you see always at Longs.
This is the best $ 5 you will ever spend for food in Hawaii, period.
The best time to go to Hawaiian Chip Company is during Saturday because the bar is open! They do also serve sliders but if you can do without the slides, definitely go for the drink. The lychee tea is the best on the island! Quick service, best chips on the island, and great drinks is what makes this place a winner. Don’t forget to use the condiments and spice up your chips to however you want!
Parking is tough here and people tend to double park. Parking is also available across the street, which is part of their property also. If you can’t find parking, there is sometimes parking along Republican, but if not, this place is so good, its worth the walk.

Saturdays are the best time to stop in to try their Slider Combo (Kalua Pig, Roast Pork, or Roast Chicken) a hot bag of chips (Sweet Potato, Taro, Okinawan Sweet Potato, or mixed) and a drink (The Lychee Iced Tea is SO GOOD!)
The entire staff give some of the best service ever, and their Tropical Gelato is pretty grub too! Stop in if you’re in the area on a Saturday afternoon! Oh, and don’t forget to grab some gifts from their retail shop… ALOHA!!!

I’ve been here before but not in a while because I didn’t recognize the building with that mustard colored paint and thought they were closed beacuse the rollup door was down too. But when we pulled in it was obvious they were open.
When I walked in I was very surprised and pleased with the renovation they did to the place. They no longer have that warehouse look any more. Its closed off to another room lined with pinewood walls and wooden floors and the place looks great. Gonna miss that warehouse ambiance though.
My favorite chip here is the taro chip with some garlic powder sprinkled over it along with their roast pork sliders with some Kilauea Sauce on it is a winnah! We were offered free samples when we walked in but we kindly refused because we knew what we wanted already.
Customer service was really friendly even though it was the boss. The parking is small. Three to four cars max. The road is tight. Enough for one car to pass only but dont let that stop you from coming here. Im glad to see this place still here and what progress it has made so far. Definitely my favorite chip place.
