Hawaiian Fabric

Several years have passed since I wrote my last 5 star review in 2013. I only live part-​time in Honolulu, so I am always checking shops to get the fabric and tools I cannot carry over the the mainland. Since I discovered this shop in 2013, it have made repeat visits for this reason. The high quality is consistent and the selection always includes beautiful new designs, as well as the standards that we quilters depend on getting. I like the charm of this well-​organized shop, the courteous and helpful owner and staff, and knowing that only quality materials and tools are found there. No seconds — just beautiful stuff.

We were visiting family in Hawaii and spent a day cruising around the Island. I wanted to make sure that we hit up at least one fabric shop to buy some fabric to make an Aloha Shirt for my husband and we chose to visit here. My husband was definitely overwhelmed with the fabric choices! What a great selection! Plus I love the opportunity to support a small business. It’s out of the way of the major hubbub of Waikiki but is totally worth a visit! Thank you David, it was a pleasure meeting you and visiting your shop.

I was on vacation, wanted to buy some super cool fabric so I found this place on Unilocal and also wanted to support small mom and pop shops. I read all the reviews and tips before taking a trip out to the store. I got my mother in law and husband to join me on this adventure and we found it on our first try with the gps.
I knew something was wrong when we pulled into an empty lot and the open neon sign was flashing at a rapidly fast pace. I ran out of the car first since I was so excited to see what wonderful fabric prints he had but was almost in tears from all the shock when I tried to open the front door of the store and it was locked. The sign had to correct store hours but no one was there. We peeked through the window, shelves packed with fabric, lights were dim and no one sight. We tried calling the number on the door and number on Unilocal but no one answered. What a disappointment!
Even though it was my first attempt to come here during their supposedly open hours, I don’t recommend this place to other bc it could turn out to be a waste of time like my trip out there. I ended up going to Fabric Mart and found everything I needed there in record time. Stuck to big shops like Fabric Mart if you don’t want to waste your time but if you want to support small businesses then good luck, call ahead of time to avoid wasting gas.

This store is one of those fantastic little hole in the wall gem in Kaimuki. Beautiful and extensive Hawaiian print fabrics are available and price can’t be beat. I saw prints that other stores didn’t have and all the fabrics were well organized. David is friendly, easy to talk to and so helpful.
Those of you that want custom button down aloha shirt, you can have them made for just $ 45 a piece and your choice of fabric

Wonderful store! Great selection with really good quality fabric at reasonable prices. Parking was difficult to find, but well worth the hassle. David cut my fabric, he was friendly and knowledgeable. After completing my transaction he gave me a business card so I can order more fabric from his website. I will stop by here the next time I visit Hawaii.

This place is off the hook. great fabric, killer prices and did you see they will make you a shirt? I got 8 yards of awesome prints and a shirt made for $ 75. I will surely come back next time I am in the area.

We loved this store! I love visiting fabric stores when we travel. The selection of fabric was wonderful. I could tell I am going to love working with it when I get home by the way it moved as David rolled it off the bolt. The owner, David, was so helpful and really knew his stock. He shipped my purchases home. The fabric was inexpensive enough to buy a couple of yards as gifts for my sewist friends.

David has a beautiful selection. We found our grey Hawaiian pau fabric from him after looking for months. My attendant and I in Aloha Festivals Parade. Fabric used in her skirt and our horse blankets. MAHALO DAVE!

Wow– what a find! Great selection of Hawaiian prints. My husband had a shirt hand-​made from here, and it turned out FABULOUS! Perfectly cut, perfectly stitched, a one-​of-​a-​kind fabric. And at a reasonable cost — much less than any off-​the-​rack department or boutique selection. So glad we found this treasure!!!

Friendly, great prices, classic fabrics!
Picked up a custom shirt last week and the work is excellent. Very pleased by both the fit and style. Big plus that the first button is up high enough that Austin Powers won’t be jealous of the chest fro, and not high enough to inhibit continuous exchange of oxygen for CO2.
The selection of Hawaiian styled patterns runs the gamut from classic flora to cartoonish fun to scenic aloha patterns. The best part is that it is a compact space that doesn’t get too busy (for instance a Walmart) and try to squeeze water bottles and picture frames into the fabric area.
If you are looking for a true collection of island fabrics, come here!

David was the nicest! Walked in to the very meat and organized fabric store and immediately fell in love. The fabric was cheaper than Fabric Mart as well.
Told him I was from main land and said that he would be able to ship fabric for cheap! Definitely check him out!

I really liked this fabric store that I found on a whim. I walked away with a few yards of some really good quality fabric for under $ 10/​yard. They were also able to ship them to me back in New York so I didn’t have to bother worrying about packing them. David and the woman working in the store were very nice. I will definitely be ordering more fabric from their website.

I stumbled across this store by pure chance. We drove by and the sign outside lured us in! We had a great experience coming in to the store for the first time and David was very nice. I bought a few yards of Hawaiian print barkcloth and some cotton fabric for a project.
The quality of the fabric in stock and the selection of Hawaiian prints was great. I only wish I’d purchased more to take with me! I will likely make purchase online soon.

Found this Gem of a store after spending many hours looking for Hawaiian souvenir dresses in Waikiki Beach. Souvenir dresses are all the same with little selection. This is the ultimate Fabric store for Hawaiian print fabrics. Great Selection, nice owner, just come here for inspiration and the Ultimate Hawaiian souvenir!

All of the reviews were right on and I’m so happy I stopped in. David was very helpful — I ordered 2 Aloha shirts for gifts, along with purchasing fabrics for my own sewing projects. Beautiful! A must see for seamstresses and quilters, or if you want a nice selection for your Aloha shirts.

An hour ago I walked out of David’s store a very happy shopper! This is my first visit to Hawaii and I thought I’d like to buy some nice fabric so I can make my own skirts/​pareos (I’m 6 feet tall, so I can’t buy standard sizes). I searched on Unilocal and read the good reviews here. Then I read that you can pick out your own fabric and have an Aloha shirt made for you. Neat! My husband was definitely interested in that.
The store is tiny, but it has great quality fabric, and honestly it has all you need. David is really friendly and helpful. We all talked a lot about football (pro, college) and more. We had such a good chat that he forgot to charge us for the price of my husband’s shirts until I reminded him. ;)
Now that I’ve seen the fabrics in person, I know I will feel more confident buying them online in the future. Hopefully, my sister-​in-​law and I can go in on an order. =)

I’m standing in Hawaiian Fabrics and can’t believe my eyes. I searched from the mainland to find this store before I came over to Honolulu, looking specifically for bark cloths and high-​quality Hawaiian fabrics. I’m quilter and dressmaker so quality is important to me. I looked at Fabric Mart, and dismissed them immediately because the quality is nothing compared to Hawaiian Fabrics store. But the prices here beat Fabric Mart hands down! David is so helpful and so serious about making the customer happy. I cannot begin to say how pleased I am that I came here, and now it will make my online shopping from Los Angeles so much easier. Thank you, David, for all your help, both with fabrics and with fat quarters for quilting.

I have all my Aloha Shirts made here. Yes, you can pick out any fabric and have them make it into a shirt for you! I have never received so many compliments on my shirts, but they are custom and one of a kind. You can even pick out your own buttons. Try doing any of this somewhere else…
Bottom line, great selection and fantastic service.
