Hawaiian Nougat Company

I was really excited to buy their product but when I went in to the Waialae store, the woman was really rude to me. She wouldn’t service me because she was in the middle of cooking her batch. I asked how long would it be until she could help me and she told me to go to Foodland or Wholefoods because she was cooking her batch and she was closing. .. in 45 minutes.

I am now eating the last of my Hawaiian Nougat Candy stash after our vacay in Hawaii. We stumbled onto the shop while walking around the Kaimuki neighborhood in Honolulu. The shop is located on the main drag, Waialae Street. Liz, one of the owners was with her assistant in the shop and they were very gracious (even though technically they were closed.) So enough background, let’s get down to the candy — absolutely delicious, softly chewy with superb and subtle flavors. It is not cloyingly sweet, with over-​the-​top fake flavors. We bought the pineapple and wailua peaberry coffee and now I will need to go back to get more after I eat the last one ;)

The one thing I really wanted to buy when I was traveling in Hawaii was macadamia nut nougat to bring back as presents. Hawaiian Nougat Company stood out because they sold not only macadamia nut nougat but they source their ingredients locally — e.g. Maui vanilla and sugar, Big Island chocolate, etc. Unfortunately, I only had a car on a Sunday and Monday when I was in Oahu, the only days when their retail shop is closed. I spent a lot of time hunting for nougat elsewhere. I almost gave up before I randomly stumbled upon it at the Whole Foods Market in Kahului in Maui (above the steam trays in the prepared foods section, if you can believe it). One suggestion for the company is to please tell us where you can find your candies. There is an article quoted in the «Press» section of the webpage that gives various locations but I suspect they are out of date because they did NOT have it in the Whole Foods Kailua, as mentioned.

Bought the 3 oz bag of Vanilla Nougat for $ 12. The soft and chewy nougat is like a marshmallow filled with macadamia nuts. My family and I enjoyed the nougats. It was so delicious!
