Hm Florals and Crafts

The store on Merchant St. has closed but they work out of there house. They do a fabulous job.

I love having an occasion to buy someone flowers and HM Crafts & Florals is my favorite downtown flower shop. They are perfect for birthdays, administrative professionals day, and to bring someone cheer. I tell the staff what I want to pay, and what color I want to feature, and they make me something that fits just right. Their arrangements are beautiful and I always feel like I got my money’s worth.

The workers here are really friendly and helpful.
The selection is not that large, they basically had about 3 or 4 different flower arrangements to choose from. The price ranges from about $ 10-​$ 30.
They also carry really nice stem roses, I would have gotten those but I did not feel it would be appropriate for the occasion I was purchasing for.
I haven’t been to many florist in Chinatown, I know there is a lot of different places to go do that might offer more or give a better price. However, this was just the most convenient for me to visit at a last minute.
These were the two flower arrangements I purchased.
I thought they were very cute and colorful. Although I came here last minute and in a rush, I definitely did not leave disappointed. :)

I don’t know about you, but I hate it when it’s my co-worker’s birthday, and I’ve completely forgotten to pick up a lei — or maybe I know they’ll have too many lei already, and I want to get something that will last longer, but I freaking work in Kaka’ako, which is like a gift desert. That’s where HM Florals & Crafts comes in.
These guys are conveniently located downtown in the 212 Merchant arcade. They don’t have their own parking, but you can easily park at the metered Post Office lot a couple of blocks away and just toss in a quarter or two.
Despite their really cramped quarters, HM really has quite an assortment of floral products, including these really cute fresh flower arrangements in baskets or small containers that really fit the bill for those co-​worker birthdays. And the people who work there are very nice and helpful: If you don’t see something you want right away, all you have to do is ask, and they will go out of their way to track down something that will suit your needs. One time, I just needed a small vase because I already had some short-​stemmed flowers that wouldn’t do well in a standard-​sized vase, and they poked around the shop until they found something matching my description, and they even cleaned it up for me! Super nice.
Chinatown probably has florists that are cheaper, but I really like the mom-​and-​pop feel of HM, as well as the fact that they really go that extra mile to be friendly and helpful. I’m a fan!

My bro and sis-​in-​law are stationed in Hawaii and when she had my niece I wanted to send flowers to the hospital. This was the only place I could find that would same day deliver on a Saturday. Unfortunately the online order had to go through teleflora and it was cancelled before it got to the florist. However when I inquired as to why, even though it was not their fault, their customer service was excellent. They only wanted to set things right and even called me on Sunday afternoon saying he was there and would personally try to deliver it. I hadn’t heard if they had left the hospital yet so he offered to wait to charge my card, try to deliver it and then only charge me if it wasn’t too late. He also said he’d upgrade the bouquet for free for the trouble. They ended up having checked out of the hospital earlier than expected, but the customer service and communication I experienced with HM was a rare gem in today’s world. Next time I know to contact Mario directly! They’ll take care of you!

I’ve gone to HM Florals several times, mostly to purchase leis for business meetings. Their prices aren’t too bad, though are probably slightly higher than some of the shops in Chinatown. I usually place an order ahead of time, then pick it up a day or two later. They always have the leis nicely boxed and ready to go.
They also make very cute arrangements (e.g., pretty roses in little baskets) which my co-​workers often order and have delivered for birthdays or other special occasions.
Honestly, I’m not the greatest when it comes to taking care of plants/​flowers, so when I come here I like to take my time and admire the bouquets and arrangements. I appreciate that they remember me as a somewhat frequent customer and will often talk story with me. I love service with a smile!

I had all but given up on the notion of finding a florist who shared my aesthetic for modern and clean floral design before an HM arrangement caught my eye.
I remember the day a cute squat cube of deftly arranged joy caused me to stop dead in my tracks. It was Secretaries Week and the office was in full bloom. I was admiring the scads of fragrant blossoms decorating the desks of our efficacious assistants. But one particular arrangement was a stand out; and, well for me, it was lust at first sight.
In a short square vase were sprigs of a very editorial-​looking orchid (some exotic dendrobium with shades of greens and purples), along with tight buds of fragrant freesia and sculptural green fillers. Not a sprig of baby’s breath or pedestrian floral fern was in sight. The cubed creation was modern, fresh and had an expensive look to it. I simply had to inquire where it came from!
«HM Florals, just around the corner,» was all she said.
Since then, I’ve kept HM Florals on the mental rolodex. (Note to hubby: you should do this, too.) They are easily my go to place for floral gifts. My favorite way to request an arrangement is to pick what’s in season and let them do the rest. They carry interesting flowers here like hydrangea, peonies and freesia. You just have to know when these are in season. What comes out of is masterful and simply the best.
BTW, while an HM arrangement may look «expensive,» their prices are far more affordable than you think.
