Like what other reviewers had said, it is not very clean and organized but I can find what I don’t see in the major Japanese supermarkets near my place. What I don’t like about this place is that a lot of merchandise does not have a price tag on it. If you don’t ask, you won’t know how much it is. Good thing that the lady who works there was very nice and informative.

I came home to find out the item I bought from this store is expired already. The expiration date was three months ago. You don’t even get to return anything from here even is their fault that they are selling expired item. $ 20 was wasted here. I won’t go to this store again, I will go to another Asian store in chinatown.

Not the cleanest, neatest or most conventional«supermarket» but what do you expect? It’s an Asian grocery store in Chinatown so don’t anticipate a suburban Whole Foods/Walmart experience. Anyway, I love going here because I can find all the stuff I need that isn’t sold in the Asian food isles of Safeway or Foodland. The prices aren’t half bad either, beforehand I checked out some of the costs of the ingredients I needed and Hong Kong Supermarket actually sold it for half the prices on Amazon. I’m only giving this place 4 stars because I needed help looking for sesame paste & a couple other things and the lady told me she had no idea where things were…

It’s one of those places where you can find all the Asian products that you can’t find at Safeway. Even though they have a lot of stuff here, it’s just so dirty… I came here looking for taro and she told me to go look in boxes in the back and MAYBE they’ll have it. She didn’t lead me to the boxes and she just pointed to the back. There were a lot of boxes and those boxes had flies flying around it because it had vegetables left over from the morning. I ended up looking through the boxes but they didn’t have taro… I would come here just to buy the asian ingredients but I would definitely double check the expiration dates!

Not your typical supermarket. All the produce are not neatly arranged and majority of the packaged products are all from Asia! For me, I personally love it since I’m one that enjoys trying snacks from all over the world. It’s different, but in a very good way. From the outside it may not look impressive, given the exterior widow has some graffiti, but it’s one of those supermarkets that I can’t imagine living without, so for that it gets my stamp of approval.

One of the bigger grocery stores in Chinatown on the corner of Maunakea and Hotel Streets across from the police department, they have a little of everything. If you walk in there, you are bound to find something you want or need — it’s like a Chinese Longs/CVS — can’t walk out empty-handed.

I’ve shopped here several times in the past for candy ginger whenever I wasn’t feeling well. The layout of this supermarket is odd in my opinion as there are 3 entrances to get in and 2 of them you can also exit and pay for your items. This store is located at the corner of Maunakea Street and Hotel Street. Some of you may remember the iconic Chinese restaurant«Wo Fat» where you may have had dinner banquets on the 2nd floor. I came here today looking for Chinese soup mixes as my go-to store Sun Chong ran out!!! I found the correct isle for their dried herbs but couldn’t located«Ching Bo Leung» soup that I am planning to make this week. Instead, I found a whole bunch of other different herbal soup mixes where you just add water, protein(chicken, beef or pork) and let it boil for about 2 to 2.5 hours. Very easy, tasty and nutritious if you ask me. It was kind of hard to flag down a staff but after checking out several isles I found a stock clerk and asked him in Cantonese. He told me which isle and escorted me to that section. I was in the right section but it was located further down! These packaged soup mixes are very affordable and this one only costs $ 1.19. What a bargain!!! The downfall of this store is that you have quite a few people shopping here but only 2 cashiers. The line I stood in took forever for me to pay. The cashier was speaking to this out-of-town Mandarin speaking customer who was asking The Bus information!!! I’m not fluent in Mandarin but could understand the gist of the conversation. Parts of this store is very gloomy and not too inviting. Perhaps they need to brighten up the store by adding more lighting and some music. Overall, a great place to get hard to find Chinese ingredients. They also have fresh fruits and vegetables here, which is located the Mauka end of the supermarket.

I was headed to the Maunakea shopping markets from King St when I bypass Hong Kong Supermarket. Some of their items out on display caught my attention and I end up walking around. They have shelves and shelves of sauces, noodles, your basic Asian stuff. Everything was nicely in the shelves so things were pretty easy to find. I was sad they didnt carry actual anise stars though. Walked out happy and will be back for my sauce needs!

It’s a place to find all those sneaky ingredients your grandparents used to cook with, but you can’t find in Safeway. However, the back area looks like it’s falling apart. The hard-to-find ingredients are a good price compared to other main-stream shops, but common items(like peanutbutter) are almost double what they cost in most grocey stores. Check out the frozen section in back. Even though it’s gross and the items in the vertical refrigerators look old and abused, the little manapua section is cute to see.

this is market is black and dishonest. i went to buy some moon cake, the sticker price was $ 29, then when i went to the cashier, they wanted me to pay in cash. and if i wanted to swipe my credit card, then they’ll charge me $ 30 instead. what the hell, how could they refuse a credit card payment of $ 29, it’s not like i’m swiping for a charge less than $ 5. then the cashier argued with me that they only make $ 1 profit out of every moon cake box they sell. what a stupid big fat liar! i would never, ever go there anymore. it’s obvious that when they take cash, they can avoid paying the IRS whenever possible. and for them to increase the price for people with credit card payments, they can cover their fees to credit card companies. what a dishonest merchant, and why would people ever want to support their business? Excellent asian grocery store that carries much more than most places in Chinatown. Wide selection of groceries, spices, canned goods and anything you need to make your favorite family dishes. This store fills the gap for not having a Ranch 99 here(fellow ex-Calfornians know what I mean). Thanks for opening shop and carrying a wide range of goodies, especially an excellent selection of stuff from Taiwan or Hong Kong(and not Made in China crap).

It’s an actual store, so all the items are sorted out in the proper isles. The prices were decent compared to all the other outside markets/stores in Chinatown. It good for Asian dried food, fresh vegetables and sauce galore here. They accept credit card and they don’t tax on food here. I didn’t need to bargain like the other places, because the prices were definitely fair. It beats having to deal with the crowd, even though I don’t really mind it too much. I think they speak Mandarin or Cantonese, but I was able to find everything I needed here. I notice they had a section that carried herbal/dried roots used for medicinal purposes. So in case you need some home remedy to rid some sickness, maybe this may be your answer.
