Great place with great resources for the blind and visually impaired. I recently took a tour of the facilities here and was very impressed by the program. Students in their 9 month long program learn to function in everyday tasks like shopping, cooking, laundry, reading/writing, using the computer, using a cane, etc. with no visual cues at all(everyone has to wear full shades, even if they have some vision left). Everyone also has to take a woodshop class as a confidence booster, and the projects they make there are pretty incredible. The technology used here is amazing as well. I was really impressed by staff and their generous hearts to teach, since I’m sure it’s not easy. I was told that all the staff has to go through the program themselves, in order to know what it’s like to be in the students’ shoes and for more effective teaching. A lot of the staff themselves are blind or visually impaired, and it’s really amazing to watch them pass on the skills they learned to others and help them learn to live independently and function almost like normally-sighted people.
