Amenities

The Plumeria is a hostel alternative, conveniently located between Waikiki and Downtown, in walking distance from Ala Moana beach.

History

Established in 1986.

The only conventional hotels and hostels in Honolulu are located in formal «hotel zones» where most vacationers congregate (most hostels are in Waikiki). However, many new arrivals in Hawaii prefer an accommodation that is not as vacation-oriented and that has more of the amenities of home (or at least, an apartment!). The Plumeria’s private, rentable bedrooms are in modified 3-, 4– or 5-bedroom apartments, with full kitchens allowing a more economical lifestyle than possible even in most hostels or budget hotels, and gives you the possibility of longer stays, with no lease requirement.

The Plumeria complex consists of three 2-story buildings on a very convenient corner location in the Ala Moana /Lower Makiki section of Honolulu. The Plumeria is on Piikoi Street, between King and Beretania Streets. TheBus, on routes 1, 2, and 13, passes near us every 10 minutes or so. The Ala Moana Shopping Center is a major bus hub for the island and is about 0.7 mile down Piikoi Street.

Business Owner

My name is Richard Stancliff. I have served as host and manager at The Plumeria since April, 2011. I previously vacationed in Hawaii and loved it so much I now spend a good part of the year in Honolulu. At age 72, I’m semi-retired and find that this lifestyle fits very well. Some work in the mornings and early afternoons, then the beach and perhaps Waikiki. Does it get any better than this?
