Initial meeting, confirmed twice by phone that it would be a free consultation. He convinced me he would be able to get my money back for this case. Unfortunately, I hired Peter, who wrote only one letter to the party, which was totally unsuccessful in even skimming the surface of the case, then charged me for the «free consult» in addition to his one letter.
Even after refreshing his memory regarding the «free consultation», he claimed he doesn’t remember the conversation, even though I called him twice to reconfirm that there would be no charge.
So 1 letter and the free consult cost close to $ 2,000 dollars for absolutely nothing. After 6 months of him doing nothing else, no additional follow up, no second anything, I had to fire him. He would not refund the «free of charge-​charge» but took it out of my retainer, after numerous letters stating that charge should be removed. So not only did I get overcharged, we also lost the original offer to settle since he took so long to do nothing. Total loss over $ 10,000.
He also puts a paragraph in his contract that forbids the client from pursuing retribution through the ethics board or American Bar Association, so you would have to pay an additional fee to file a complaint against him or for any type of mediation. Make him remove this paragraph from the contract, if you ever decide to business with this person. I would not recommend this lawyer at all.
