Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort & Spa

Beautiful ocean view upgraded room on the 38^th floor. Loved the staff, room, gym, breakfast, and location was the BEST. All we had to do to get to the beach was walk outside our hotel and across the light and we were there! Only downfall was housekeeping. Hotel was busy so housekeeping came late but other than that I wouldn’t change a thing!

Beautiful view, nice shops and restaurants. Check in and upgraded to what we thought was an ocean front room but ended up being a partial ocean view room. Our other party asked for an upgrade after we did and received a ocean front view for the same price. Ummm I think we shld have received the same thing.

We just returned from an 8 night stay here and had both good and bad experiences. I would give the stay 3.5 stars. We encountered several problems but not with the hotel itself, it was more a combination of bad neighbors and a holiday weekend. However, with a young child in tow, any issues can really change the vacation dynamic as you are already dealing with a lot on a daily basis. As loyal Hyatt Diamond members, we expected a bit more of a proactive stance to our issues. We have had other minor issues on other stays with the hotel going over and above to generously and proactively make things right. We did have to push a bit to try to resolve things but again, we are putting it down to the the holiday weekend.
The doors tend to slam quite a bit which was not good for nap or sleeping time. We had noisy neighbors who were smoking pot for the first couple of days. We also had cigarette smoke wafting into our balcony on a daily basis. This is all bad for our child, and hard to predict as guests are all different but the logical idea would be to move us immediately. We had to suggest this ourselves, but there were no other rooms available. So we stuck to our room and Melody did her best to make up for our rowdy neighbors.
We were in the Diamond Tower and had a beautiful ocean view suite. We had a wonderful Housekeeper Evelyn who was proactive about asking how things were and helping with the smoke situation. We loved Mark in the Regency Club who always had a big smile and welcome for our family. Every one in the lounge was sweet and friendly. We found the amenities of the hotel convenient and loved the farmers market on Tuesday and Thursdays. We were sad to miss the Friday festivities but were pleased with all that was offered. Melody followed up both during and after our stay and was able end our stay on a positive note. We hope to have a better experience on any subsequent return visits!!!

Colin at the pool is the man! He helped me rent a surfboard, got me some first aid stuff after I cut my foot in the water on reef, and got us a pool chair and towel to clean it all up. Thanks!
The hotel itself is located at the heart of Waikiki beach with easy access to shopping, I made a trip to Apple store which was only a couple blocks away for a cable. It also has a mall on the lower levels, I’ve been going to Kai coffee in the morning.
The partial ocean view room in Ewa tower is elegant as Hyatt rooms generally are. Bed was comfortable although bathtub was nothing special. The Jacuzzi is kinda small and can get crowded on Friday night. Don’t expect to get to bed early on the weekend nights either as live music from bar is very audible. Gym is awesome, very complete set of equipment.
Service has been phenomenal in general, front desk, valet, pool, housekeeping folks have been on top of it. Breakfast buffet at SHOR was pretty meh though, especially for $ 30 with standard breakfast meats and omelet station. Parking will also cost you at least $ 30 a day for self parking and $ 35 for valet. Overall a great value relative to Waikiki prices.

My husband and I stayed here May 17^th-​May 21^st. I have stayed at many Hyatt properties over the years, with the Park Hyatt in Milan being my diamond standard for comparison and this property was simply ok. We stayed on the 11^th floor out of 40 in the Ewa tower.
The rooms have been recently renovated, but the room we had barely had an ocean view and there was a LOT of street noise every night. One night there seemed to be a preacher or something yelling bible quotes until 11:00pm… So soundproofing might have been something they overlooked in their 100million reno. And obviously we couldn’t utilize the diamond suite upgrade but some asian friends we met on the trip had no problem getting an upgrade when they checked in.
The second, there are ALOT of Japanese tourist who stay here. The hotel caters to them very specifically it seems since we could finds tons of japanese food in the restaurants and in the Regency Club. But we couldn’t seem to find one vegetarian friendly restaurant or offering anywhere that wasn’t salad…
The shops below the hotel are currently going through their renovation and its inconvenient since you have to loop around the main stairs to back stairs and construction dust is everywhere and they didn’t let us know until a couple days before we arrived.
The elevators take nearly 15 minutes to get you down since you will push the button and it will take 10 fully loaded elevators arriving before you can find one to squeeze into. They need a serious reprogramming.
Also, $ 30 resort fee and $ 30 self parking fee daily. No good resort amenities offered from what we were told, we could get TOWELS whenever though… And the self parking deck is super dangerous. It looks like it was designed by a 2 year old, with 1 lane shared for people going up and down.
Overall, I would recommend it as a last minute place to book but there are definitely better properties on the island. The service is nowhere near what you experience at other Hyatt locations. Its a big disappointment for $ 1500.

So I will preface this with I rarely have anything good to say about Hyatt Regency’s [1] within the USA period. Most of them are franchised, super old in a dated not nice way, rarely modernized or updated, horribly laid out, smell, and generally overpriced crap; Honolulu’s wasn’t any better. Only reason I go is because they are generally consistent, convenient, outside the US they are pretty damn good, and I’ve been a loyalty member for nearly twenty years so have way to many points to give up on them (and usually had work pay for it anyways so not like was wasting my own money).
On the pro side (short) it’s across the street from Waikiki beach and the rooms are quiet which is usually a deal breaker for me and something I rarely ever come across in Hyatt’s anywhere in the world. Also this one didn’t smell (well outside the elevators) which was nice.
On the con side it’s across the street from Waikiki beach which means unlike other «resorts» in Honolulu you don’t get normal beach amenities like free umbrella’s, etc for hotel patron’s or the ability to leave your kid there without worrying if they are going to get hit walking across a busy street. The tower elevators (nor stairs) don’t go down to the ground floor so you have to walk the entire length of the hotel to go up a level to the front desk and then walk the entire length of the hotel back to catch the elevator just one floor up unless you take the fire escape. The beach towels they give you are pool towels so impossible to not burn yourself on the hot sand when you lay on them as they aren’t full length. They charge you a «resort» fee but it’s not actually a resort and has no resort amenities and the hotel pool isn’t any larger or better than the dozen of one star budget hotels surrounding it; the parking garage is a nightmare to park in. Shopping wise it’s laid out like a mini-​mall (as with most hotels in Honolulu) and one might think out of all the stores they have they would have ONE that sells girls swimming suits but nope, they cater to everybody teenager up (both genders) and boys which was annoying as my daughter forgot her swimming suit and I had to go wonder around Waikiki trying to find a place that sells them for girls. Also I can’t stand it when hotels don’t have those little printed catalog of services in the room, i.e. room service menu + all the amenities at the hotel, like I’m magically suppose to know all what the hotel has to offer. Lastly the showers have no water pressure, the sinks don’t have hot water (only the showers), their blackout curtains do a pretty poor job, and their wifi directions printed in their room telecom book list the wrong SSID which was annoying as there were three different wifi’s networks all of which started with Hyatt.
Will not stay at this location again ever period hard stop. Will try the Hyatt Place next right up the street next time and I long for a Grand Hyatt in this damn state.
[1] My one exception so far is the Hyatt Regency in San Francisco. I quite enjoyed that one and was pleasantly surprised.

Understood and thank you for your response but TBH will believe it when or if I see it; as I said I have been a long time Hyatt brand customer (stayed in my first one in 1996) and TBH I just don’t see improvements or, if they are happening, are primary form over factor. I can confirm I checked with both Billabong and Crazy Shirts and neither carried girls (not boys) swimming suits; maybe I caught them on a bad day or the staff which was working that day was ill informed but definitely didn’t have when my daughter and I stopped in (and I remember asking as well as I was also surprised). The beach towels are actually provided by the valet service desk, not the pool desk, so if you are going to look into that you should probably have two different sets. the towels were adequate for the pool when I used them. I can def confirm on the lack of hot water in the suite I was in coming out of the bathroom faucet, or at least it didn’t heat up during the five minutes I let it run. I wasn’t all that surprised as I have seen similar situations, both in hotels and office buildings, on Oahu has a way to «green» their facilities but that doesn’t make it any better. I’m sure many/​most poeple would happily pay the negligible premium to be able to wash their hands with hot water.
Regardless I thank you for looking into this but my review will stay at two stars. Maybe I will try again in a year or so but as of right now I’m sticking with not recommending the location and my next stay, probably in a month or so, will be at the Hyatt Place. And if you ever travel I would suggest you stop by the Hyatt Regency in Guam. it’s an example of a Regency done right in the Pacific and while the Waikiki location can’t support the same grounds the rooms and even dull stuff like elevators and coffee shops are night and day.

I absolutely loved our stay at the Hyatt!
The staff was truly amazing, when my husband and I first arrived @ 5 am after a red eye Sonia welcomed us and got us all checked in. Our room obviously wasn’t ready due to the time but Sonia did her best to still get us checked in earlier since we were tired from our trip. We go into our room at 1. Not to shabby considering check in time is at 3.
Our room was so big and it had a partial ocean view! Which was gorgeous! Maybe I’m biased because I normally get the cheapest hotel I can find but since it was our honeymoon we splurged and I have to say it was the nicest room my husband and I have stayed in.
On the back of the key card it said you get a free keepsake picture my husband and I were excited for this since it would be a nice memory from the honeymoon. However when I asked about it I was informed this is no longer an amenity. And the gentleman was nice enough to comp us 3 of the 5 night resort fees for us!

Yeah, yeah, yeah… Ppl complain that they are renovating as I post a review. yeah, yeah, yeah ppl complain that it doesn’t make it look very inviting when your first impression of the hotel are construction workers in their hard helmet surrounded with ladders and cables. But come on ppl. DESPITE the construction going on here, I actually have to say we enjoyed our stay here at Hyatt. We chose this place as it was very conveniently located in downtown close to many restaurants, zoo, shopping and beach.
We got a room with beach view and the view was great! The rooms are pretty spacious and fairly clean. And our rooms were always made and cleaned when came back in the late afternoon.
One of the amenities is that you get 10% off for the shops and food places located within the hotel and nearby.
The staff are always very friendly and accommodating.
Although we had a little mishap happening one morning. We were all ready to leave to Hanauma bay early in the morning when hubby noticed and dent and scratch on our rental car. We notified the valet and the manager came out and took ownership of the mistake. They asked if we want to get a police report so we don’t have to worry about insurance on our fly back home which I really, really appreciate. We come from California where nobody every takes ownerships of mistakes as you can get sued over everything and ppl. in Cali are just more rude: P Anyways, the police came (who are also super friendly and very helpful). We got the police report and were ready to go. Just sadly it all took almost 2 hours and the kids and I were stuck in the car while hubby was waiting. If I would have known it would take that long I would have taken the kids out but all I ever heard is the cops are on their way…
We missed Hanauma Bay that day as the parking lot was full once we arrived. Our plans definitely got changed and I was pretty frustrated but when we got back to our hotel room the manager send us gift baskets filled with drinks and snacks with a card apologizing about what happened that morning! Wow, we were very surprised and amazed about the great customer service that was provided.
A great place to stay if you are in Oahu!

Despite all the renovations going on, the Hyatt was the perfect place to stay for trip. We got the oceanfront room with a king bed and it was absolute perfection! Our room was super clean and modern with a lot of open space. Highly recommend this place.
Kai coffee, a floor below the lobby is amazing as well! If you’re looking for good coffee, come here. The boo was obsessed with their signature latte so we went every morning before starting our day :)
The only negative about this place is that housekeeping did not come at normal hours… one day we came back to our room at 3pm and it was STILL messy.

I wanted to let everyone know that the Hyatt Regency is under major renovations for the next year or 2. Nothing on their website states that.
They have replaced the can collectors with an all new reduced staff in every department. Expect huge lines at the front desk and 20 minute waits for an elevator.
This was once a 5 Star Diamond Resort and now it’s just an overpriced Best Western.
I do not recommend this hotel until all renovations are complete.

Stayed here for 7 days on our vacation to Hawaii. First of, all their rooms are now renovated, how awesome is that! Came here on a Friday afternoon at 4PM and there’s no line! We got checked in right away. Our room is amazing! Although we got the room facing the strip (partial ocean view) it was still beautiful. I shoudlve paid a little extra for the ocean view though. We requested for a rolling bed (for free) and they brought it up right away.
The location is very convenient. It’s in the middle of everything. There’s also a lot of stores inside the hotel (coffee shop, ABC store, urban outfitters etc). I would suggest leaving your car there and just walk if you want to eat close by since you’ll never find a parking somewhere else. The only thing I didnt like is that they charge $ 35 a day for valet parking. But the valet parkers were very nice and helpful!
Theres pool, spa, gym on the third floor which they charge resort fee of $ 30 per night. Bummer! We paid all that but didnt swim in the pool or use any of their facilities since were out all day!
They also have farmers market I think on Tuesdays and Thursdays which you can buy fruits for $ 3 which was really good! (Cash only though)
This place is highly recommended although they charge for the valet and resort fee when you check out so make sure you save money for that.
If you know you’re not going to stay in the hotel all day at your vacation just go somewhere cheaper! Paid a lot for this hotel but only came here to sleep and shower. The hotel is beautiful though! I would recommend to get an ocean view room.

F-​A-​B-​U-​L-​O-​U-​S! Fabulous! Fabulous! During check-​in, we were welcomed with orchid leis and plantation ice tea. Then we walked into our hotel room, we immediately turned on vacation mode. We got upgraded to a room with ocean view on the 33^rd floor, it overlooked Waikiki beach and Diamond Head. What more can anyone ask for? This view is amazing and it does wonders to your mind, body and soul!
The hotel itself is older, however, they have went under major room renovations, and is currently working on renovating the general areas. The bottom two levels are retail spaces with ABC Store, Urban Outfitters, Coach, Ugg and etc. They also have restaurants, bars and cafes. And of course, Na Ho’ola Spa, it’s a premier spa that offers bridal make up, massages, facials, sauna and fitness center. As a hotel guest, you are welcome to use the spa for a small fee. It was totally worth it for me to go to the sauna and relax in the lounge area for some peace and quiet.
The location is excellent, we literally walk across the street to the beach, come by and enjoy a nice swim at the pool and Jacuzzi. The Jacuzzi is a big one that can accommodate about 20 people, with a temperature of 101. It’s a five-​minute walk to Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center or the zoo. This is truly the center of Waikiki.
My girls said «it’s the best home ever»! They didn’t want to leave.

My room had a beautiful beach view that was romantic and made my trip memorable!
Pros: the soap and lotion inside the room smell so good (coconut & mango scented) they have a luxurious spa on the 5^th floor
Staff is very nice
They have a mall inside the hotel
Amazing restaurants, valet is quick, hotel is a few feet away from the beach and other shopping areas
Room décor is modern and up to date
Free wifi and 24 hour gym
The cons: The elevator is SO SLOW.

Very centrally located. You’re literally right across the street from Waikiki beach, and within walking distance to everything.
Lots of amenities and stores inside the hotel… but really, who would buy a pair of Uggs while on vacation in Honolulu?! lol. The only stores/​restaurants I patronized were the ABC stores and Kai Coffee.
I enjoyed the farmers market they hold every Tuesday and Thursday from 4−8pm. We got packages of cut up fruit and salads for only $ 3.
Strong wifi signal throughout the entire hotel.
Some things that were a little annoying:
— the TV would cut out for about 20 – 30 seconds every half an hour. It would say «wireless connection disconnected» or something like that. This happened every single time we watched TV.
— you could hear the opening and closing of the balcony doors in the room above.
— the sink and mirror were separate from the washroom; outside the bathroom, inside the actual room.
— no robes provided.
— the down escalator for our tower was out of service the last three days, up escalator also out of service for the last day we were there.
Lots of reviews here mentioned the elevator situation. I didn’t find it THAT bad. Yes, there were a few times we had to wait maybe 4 – 5 minutes, and once it stopped 11 times on the way down (we were on the 26^th floor) but for the most part, it was tolerable. During off-​peak times, the wait was minimal.
All in all, it was a good value based on location/​amenities versus price we paid — compared to other hotels on the main strip. I would consider staying here again if I ever came back to Waikiki Beach.

Came for a conference and did not want to leave!!!
So many awesome things to brag about. It’s like a mini city in this joint. In addition to the hotel there is also an ABC convenience market inside, rental car agency, 3 story waterfall, with a variety of shops/​restaurant/​café on the bottom floor with an open air feel to it. In this strip, enjoy local farmers market on Tuesday and Thursday’s 4−8pm (fresh fruits, pastries, jellies, trinkets, jewelry etc).
The room itself was trendy cool like NY style. Every room comes with a small fridge and a little balcony. Extremely spacious rooms. Beds and pillows were cloudy comfortable. My favorite part of the room was the gigantic bathroom and my first ever bidet experience. I could sit on that throne for hours. Choose from a variety of water pulsation or just a stream, choose the water temp. Oh man that was some luxury living.
Hats off goes to the friendly and professional staff. Hawaii itself has the best tourism, but somehow this establishment just supercedes. Everyone just went out of their way to give the best experience.
The conference room itself wasn’t extravagant. It’s a conference room. But well kept, clean, staff ensured that the coffee, water, soft drinks and foods were never needing to be replenished.
There were a few pools to choose from (all outdoor). At the adjoining bar/​lounge enjoy some nightly live music.
As is parking all around Waikiki, price was on par with surrounding hotels, valet parking for $ 35, but this is one of the fewer places I’ve seen that offer self park but for $ 30
While there were so many dazzling aspects about this place, too many things in Hawaii to do to stay inside all day. Love how this location is easily accessible to beach (cross one street over), or walk 2 blocks to the strip for Beverly hills style shops, restaurants etc.

I like attending work conferences when they are held at the Hyatt.
The ballrooms, which are across of the hotel but same building structure as the hotel’s parking, are nice and spacious. On the tables were notepads and pens, as well as cups and a water pitcher. There’s also coffee and tea available but they clear that out half way through the conference. The conferences are typically 8 hours long.
Self parking and valet parking are available. Valet is a bit pricey (over $ 10) but worth it in my opinion if you don’t want to deal with driving in very tight spaces and parking your car in spaces that seem to be made only for compact cars.
There are also a number of restaurants that are just a walking distance away from the Hyatt. I was able to try something new each day when I attended a 3-​day conference last year.

This is a newly (2015) remodeled hotel right across the street from Waikiki beach.
Although the hotel caters to mainly Japanese tourists, everyone is welcome here. The rooms all have a balcony with a view (mountains or beach). Very nice!
The pool is on the third floor, overlooking the beach, and the bar (Swim) is excellent!
They have a concierge lounge, several restaurants, and many shops on the ground floor. Note, the lobby is on the 2^nd floor.
Friendly staff and oh that pool with a view make this a premium place to stay in Waikiki!

The Hyatt Regency Waikiki is the BEST and my favorite hotel in Waikiki! I stayed here on two occasions and sure wish I could stay for more! Most recently, I stayed for a girls weekend in July. My friend was turning 40 and we decided to get away from our other halves and party in Waikiki.
The location is top notch. You are in the heart (not off skirts) of Waikiki. The famous Waikiki beach fronts this resort. It is in walking distance to great shopping and dining.
We were in an ocean front room and the room itself was modern and luxurious. The layout of the furniture made the room feel large.
From check in with Betty and housekeeping by Evelyn the stay was perfecto!
On a previous stay I was able to stay in a room and the Regency Club and the extra money was worth the extra amenities in the club lounge.
Guests should know the resort has a small pool. I hung out there and it was a good place for lounging and partaking in the jacuzzi. I also dipped in the pool for a bit. Some resorts have fancy pools but Waikiki beach is literally across the street so I feel based on location a fancy pool is not necessary.

3 ½ stars. Decided to stay here for our honeymoon. Location is great, but I wish this hotel was truly oceanfront, so you get a clear and unobstructed view and no traffic noise for oceanfront rooms. Parking: I did valet parking for $ 35 a day instead of $ 30 self park. So much easier!
Restaurants:
Ate at Shor for daily breakfast buffet, happy hour at Swim, and Japengo for dinner. Japengo was a highlight and did the Tastings of Japengo menu. Did not disappoint at all. Yum.
Thank you to Joy, one of the hostess at Shor. She made us feel so welcomed. We already miss her! Shor buffet was good. Good selection of hot and cold foods and omelette bar. No complaints except for so many birds! Get there early or after 9 to avoid a very long wait, especially if it rains. Loses 65% of seating if it rains.
Swim bartenders were nice and happy hour there fit the bill, albeit not the best decorated room.
Rooms: newly remodeled and quite large. Only thing I just can’t stand is why they can’t put a door or something to block the mirror light from illuminating the entire room, especially at night. Bathtub/​shower should have instructions on how to use it. Neat toilet though. Awesome tv!
Shops: lots of them inside Hyatt first 2 floors. Great shopping along main road if you can afford it.
Pool:
Forget about it. Tiny. Get beach chairs and towels (all part of room rate) from pool and walk to the beach.
Overall a solid good place to stay in Waikiki. Awesome wifi access. Just wish they thought of some things when they renovated the hotel.

Hotel restaurants have a reputation of just OK to bad food and service. Kinda boring and bla bla bla. This was definitely an exception. Part of my job is to eat for a living so there are times I just want something substantial and good no frills. So I wandered into Shore restaurant. It has a great view of the ocean. Simple understated rooftop dining.
I ordered eggs, pancakes, chicken sausage, hash browns, eggs Benedict, orange juice and a latte. Everything came out hot fresh and absolutely delicious. I have a pet peeve about breakfast potatoes. They are never any good? I don’t get it… these were cooked perfectly and crispy. Generally when I ask for extra crispy hash browns the cooks think that’s code for burn the sh?! out of them. The sausage was really good not odd frozen nuke it sausage. Hand made locally with wonderful spices. Cool.
The best part was the server «Yasue» I hoop I got her name correct. She is from Japan and in July I spent two wonderful weeks there eating my way from Tokyo to Kyoto. I shared with her how I so appreciated the Japanese culture and I learned invaluable truths about hospitality during my visit.
Yasue was gracious and an excellent server I will continue to sing her praises… please ask for her by name for brunch!
