I went to Yataimura located on the second floor of Shirokiya to have lunch, and couldn’t decide what to eat because of the wide selection of offerings. I saw a short line here, so I decided this was the one. I ordered the Kimukatsu curry because I like the combination. Your food is prepared when you order, so they give you one of those buzzer things that light up when it’s ready The good? The pork was tender and juicy, and the breading was very light and nicely done. The not so good? The curry was just average, and nothing to rave about. The portion was small for the price and quality.

I loved the thin slices of chicken that made this chicken katsu. We ordered #2 :katsu over eggs & onion on top of rice. I liked that it was served in a huge bowl. Everything had good flavor, enough salt, and not too hot to eat right away. I’d definitely go again if we were shopping and got hungry.

Again when I came to yataimura where all other outlets are open and seats busy at 730pm kimukastu tei is closed. Unilocal hours show to 1000p. m as all other food outlets. Not enough staff? Not enough ordering? What is the issue? Food is good, but cannot get to eat it.

Not a fan of the tonkatsu from this place because the breading was too thick. Too bad… the bread crumbs are imported from Japan, according to the restaurant. The layered pork is supposed to be special. 2 stars! Kimukatsutei is not yummylicious!

Ordered takeout and didn’t get any sauce. Tonkatsu without sauce is like forgetting sauce with my chicken nuggets. It sucks.

Not bad tonkatsu curry. The portion is kind of small for the price. They give you a buzzer to walk around with while you wait for your meal. The curry has potato bites in it. I prefer Curry House.

Always consistently delicious tender tonkatsu. It’s served several different ways, original, with curry, with egg kimchee, and others but usually i always get the original and never make it beyond selection #1. Hubby always gets the Katsu curry and it never disappoints. It’s order at the counter and enjoy your meal under the Yatai Mira seating on the 2nd floor of Shirokiya at Ala Moana. The cabbage on mine is shredded like I’m used to in Japan, which means it’s very thinly shredded, not thick like how it’s done locally. The pork is thinly sliced then layered before it is deep fried and that is really the secret. It makes the pork tender and just melt in your mouth with the crispy crunch of the right kind of panko. Ohhhhh just describing it makes me want to get another order to take home. So give it a try, you will never order the local kine Katsu after you’ve had this dish. Sorry! But this is authentic tonkatsu for me.

I absolutely love Kimukatsutei! Service was fast and friendly, food is incredible. The only thing is, it’s all the way on town. I live down in Waianae so the journey is kind of far, but most definitely worth it. Bring it on down this way please!

Saves me a trip to Waikiki for super yummy katsu. Although my jeans may not be as happy about that, lol. I’ve been a long time fan of the original Kimukatsu location in Waikiki. The multi-layered katsu is freshly fried, flavorful & not greasy. The sauce is special & you need so little — definitely not ketchup mixed w/stuff like most plate lunch places. The rice is also a highlight — I know, who would think steamed rice could be a highlight. Bookmark Kimukatsutei so you can find out for yourself. =)

Can’t go wrong with Katsu and curry. It’s never been dry the times I went here. And the curry is pretty good. It’s a good pick up dinner. I like it here :) and there’s always seating on the counter right next to them. Or there is the seating in the beer garden area.

I’m a katsu lover! Beside Kimukatsu(Waikiki), I love kimukatsutei the most! They do varies katsus and entrees. For best pork katsu, go to Kimukatsu. For best variety(also very delicious!), come here!

We ate at Shirokiya twice during our trip to Honolulu because I didn’t get to try Kumukatsutei during our first visit. I ordered the #1 I think, which is their pork katsu with katsu sauce over a bed of rice and thinly sliced cabbage. When I first walked by, I thought they used one big thick pork cutlet, but they actually use 25 extremely thinly pounded pork cutlet layers. It’s basically witchcraft. Good god, it was delicious. I think the meal was around $ 10 which was fine, but I do have to say the portions are smaller than you’d expect. I only got 5 pieces of katsu(which probably would have been okay if my parents didn’t steal 2) but I could have easily eaten another katsu… Or maybe I have a eating problem, ha!

If you like Pork Katsu, you’ll like Kimukatsutei in the Shirokiya Yataimura(Food Court and Beer Garden). Kimukatsutei is the casual, fast food version of Kimukatsu Restaurant in Waikiki – think Japanese-sized portions and food court prices. Their specialty is their Pork Katsu which is made of layered, thinly sliced pork instead of the more common cutlet. I didn’t like the Kimu Tamago Don which is cooked with eggs, onions, and placed over rice. I found the dish to be too wet – the rice went mushy from all the liquid. The Kimukatsu Curry is much better. The curry sauce has good flavor, the katsu stays crispy, and the rice was perfect! It is small in size compared to other places’ katsu curries, but the quality is better. If you are really hungry you will probably have to get more than a single order. You can upsize your rice from 200 mg to 300 mg for free, make it a combo with miso soup and potato salad, and add sides like menchi katsu, fries, croquette, or a pork katsu sandwich. Kimukatsutei is good for a quick bite while you’re at Ala Moana and looking for good quality food court fare or to soak up the beer in your belly.

I’ve been a fan of Kimukatsu since their opening in Waikiki. The way they layer the meat and deep fry them is in no comparison to any other. I’m not of fan of fat on my meat in my katsu, so this is perfect! Although they don’t have the many different variations in flavor as their restaurant, they do offer great varieties for being a «fast food» version. Don’t be fooled by what I just said as «fast-food» is not the usual thought of mcd’s or a jack. This is just served quicker, which is fitting for being nestled in Shirokiya and serving those looking for a quick meal. The prices can seem high to many, which when you think about it, it actually is. A combo meal for almost $ 13 will get you small miso soup, potato salad and your entrée versus ala carte, entrée only is already almost $ 10. They do have a great set meal offering, which is what I like. Starting at $ 9.95 you get one of three different choices for entrée, miso soup, gyoza(4 pieces), and potato salad. The pork katsu is $ 11.98. It’s pretty filling and it tastes delicious! I think its worth it to eat good quality katsu. Happy Eating!

I’m not going to lie. I love curry and I was looking for a new place to eat curry, so I decided to check out Kimukatsu Curry. I must say that I was a little disappointed on this place. First off the service was way too slow. I must have waited at least 30 minutes for my order. I know I ordered the combo, which comes with miso soup and potato salad, but it should not take that long. Second, they don’t even sell drinks. I know I am in a department store, but that still seems ridiculous that they don’t sell drinks. Sure they have a water jug and cups, but that still doesn’t make sense as to not having their own drinks to sell. So do finally I got my order and I must say I was very disappointed. The potato salad was small. I could say it wasn’t even 1 complete scoop. It was ok, but the portion was small. The miso soup was not that good. There was only a couple pieces of seaweed and some weird bread thing floating around. Plus the miso soup had hardly any taste. The Kimukatsu Curry wasn’t any better. The amount of food in the Kimukatsu Curry bowl was small considering the cost. Almost $ 13 for the meal set, which is the Kimukatsu Curry, miso soup, and potato salad. The curry was nothing more than curry sauce with no meat or vegetables in it. And only 5 pieces of to tonkatsu in the bowl. Talk about not getting your money’s worth. I would recommend anyone looking to eat katsu curry try somewhere else than this place, unless you like paying more and getting less.

Located at the top of the Shirokiya department store, Kimukatsutei offers 4 different meals with their signature Kimukatsu, a katsu that has 25 layers of thinly slice meat, to make for one pork or chicken katsu. I had expected more from the way they describe their katsu. The 25 layers didn’t really add much to the katsu and I had ordered the curry as well and it was a tad bit too sweet for my tastes. I believe that because they just reheat the katsu, you miss out on a lot of the quality the meat had when it was first cooked. The meat wasn’t particularly seasoned either. Overall, for food that the top of a department store’s food court, it isn’t bad, but it’s not that great either. The wide array of food they offer there could have easily satisfied you just as well as Kimukatsutei could have.

Im gonna be honest and state the main reason we eat here is that there are alway open seats on their counter. Many times if you got to Shirokiya during peak times you will not find open seats to dine. Kimikatsu tei always has seat open. The food is pretty good also. I usually get the katsu with curry combo. Curry is good and there is a nice size piece of katsu. The food comes out pretty fast and its at a reasonable price. All in all I AM A FAN!

What do you do when you’re in town, you need to do some shopping, get a quick and delicious meal and quickly run off to your next adventure? You eat at Kimukatsutei of course! Located in the top floor of Shirokiya next to the beer garden, Kimukatsutei is a food staple for the department store. With a few solid choices of regular tonkatsu, tamago tonkatsu, katsu curry, kimu moco don, tonkatsu sandwich and a new bento item, you really can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. I usually get the curry katsu since it’s the most filling but sometimes I really feel like eating a ton of tonkatsu sauce so I will opt for something more traditional. The potato salad is a nice touch adding a little bit of richness to the savory main dish. No need buy a drink if you get the combo since you can drink the miso soup. The layers of tonkatsu are a nice vessel for tonkatsu sauce as you can see here: I feel like some days I eat more sauce than katsu… yes I have a problem. This is the combo, quite a bit of food: When you’re fungry and in the Ala Moana area, check this place out.

25 layers of pork katsu! The second location for Kimukatsu is conveniently located at Ala Moana! I had never experienced this popular form of pork cutlet before! Most of you already know, but this is not your regular katsu! it’s 25 layers of premium sukiyaki style pork — layered, breaded, and slowly deep fried to create a perfectly crispy outside with a nice juicy inside. If you are at Shirokiya, don’t get curry katsu anywhere else! RECOMMEND: Pork katsu curry! 25 layers of thinly sliced pork all katsu-ed up and curried down for $ 9.80! I’ve been reading about this for months from all of you eating at the Waikiki location, and all I could do was drool all over my keyboard. Thank goodness Shirokiya let these guys in, because now I can finally say LOOKATTHIS, this is good katsu: LOCATION: 2nd floor, Shirokiya. If you walk in the door by Hawaii Juice Factory, turn right and it’s right there. I asked them how long they were staying for — one girl wasn’t sure, and one guy said«indefinitely». I sure hope this is a permanent vendor and not one of those rotating spaces. They don’t have the same variety as their flagship Waikiki location but they do have these super cute boxes for your kimukatsu sandwich: And, since this place is right next to the beer garden, you can buy your cheap pitcher of beer and get your Kimukatsu fix in at the same time! OR, you could get the best bubble drink at Hawaii Juice Factory next door while you wait for your food. OR, for dessert, you could stop at 5&2 for some froyo. Even better, you could get the pitcher of beer, order your food, get your bubble drink AND get a little bit of yogurt. So many possibilities. So little time. Thank you Mike W and Vince B for sharing.

Usually I’m not in a big rush to review a new business. But, in this case I’m excited about Kimukatsutei. I want to get the word out to my Unilocal friends and anyone else who loves Shirokiya as much as I do. This is a great addition to the Yataimura food options. So I had some time to kill at Ala Moana. First, I stopped by kulu kulu bakery on Shirokiya’s first floor. Then after I checked in there I noticed that someone mentioned Kimukatsu opening on Dec. 7 in Shirokiya in a Unilocal«talk» posting. Ran up the stairs to top floor of Shirokiya to check this place out. The place is called Kimukatsutei and it serves the exact same pork katsu as Kimukatsu in Waikiki. Of course, it is the Yataimura/food court version of the dine in restaurant. Katsu Speciality: Kimukatsu/Kimukatsutei specializes in a pork katsu dish which has 25 very thin layers of pork that is breaded and fried into an oval patty. At Kimukatsutei the options are few but all are variations of this special pork katsu. There is a katsu sandwich, katsu curry on rice, Katsu on rice with sauce. There are models of the 4 basic variations at the ordering window as well as menu cards. I noticed that they also served miso soup but did not see this on the menu. I’ve been to the Kimukatsu restaurant and I love this stuff. Ordering: Order at the window and pay at the cash register. You are given a flashing/buzzing device which will go off when your food is ready. You are asked if you are eating in or taking out. If you are eating in they will serve your meal on a tray with a very decorative ceramic bowl. See my photo. You are given the choice of regular size or large size. «Large» means it comes with more rice. No extra charge for large. Seating: Of course you can sit at any of the many tables on that floor or you can sit at their private counter which is just to the right of the window. It’s a very nice large counter with hand towels available and seats that spin around. The large bowls are extra fancy and I think it that is the best way to enjoy this special pork. Service: Everyone gives you the«Irasshaimase» welcome. Order taken quickly. The buzzer thing is better than asking your name. Food comes out quickly and I love that fancy bowl! They do ask that you return it to the window when youre done. Drinks: They don’t have fountain drinks so it is probably best to get your drinks first before ordering. They direct you to a cold drink cabinet behind the Shirokiya cashiers. A bit awkward but that is how they are currently doing drinks. Since they are using the Shirokiya cash register system you can pay for the Shirokiya drink at the Kimukatsutei window… and they take credit cards. Wierd… in that you expect most places to sell drinks at the window too. But another advantage is that you can get beer and smoothies nearby too. Vegan/Vegetarian: Sorry there are no options here. But, if you are feeling decadent and will give into cheating, this is the place to do it!
