This is a special store with folks who really know chocolate and it’s an annual tradition to get a gift pack for our friends as a Christmas present. Why don’t we get our friends a Christmas gift from other places, it’s because Menehune Mac makes the best selection of sugar free chocolates and cookies. Our friends are diabetic and love the candies and shortbread cookies we send. You can visit them in a kiosk at Windward Mall around Christmas time but to really see their full offering of sugar free and regular chocolates and products, you need to visit the store. This is a local family owned business that puts a lot of love in their product and I would encourage other Unilocalers to patronize them. If you have a chance, talk to Neil about chocolate flavors they’ve sold in the past or suggest some new flavors. He’s a great guy to talk to and knows everything there is to know about chocolate. For those not interested in chocolate, you haven’t been forgotten and Menehune Mac offers T-​shirts, bags, teas, jellies, flavored rice (very good stuff!), all for reasonable prices. They also are masters at making favors for large gatherings like weddings or birthday parties. E Komo Mai!

I am writing this review on behalf of my mom who worked with Jana and Susan at Menehune Mac on two different occasions; helping make the centerpieces for my sister’s bridal shower and rehearsal dinner.
For my sister’s bridal shower, my mom originally purchased furushiki (tying the knot fabric wrapped box) from Shop Toast and wanted to put some type of treat inside of it. Jeremy at Shop Toast referred my mom to Menehune Mac, who were able to make not only one, but TWO different flavored fortune cookies (fortunes included!) for the furushiki. White pineapple snow dip with blue sprinkles and white strawberry crème dip with blue sprinkles (navy blue was her wedding color). And, to top it all off, not only did they make the fortune cookies — they also stuffed and wrapped the boxes! My sister is an avid paddler, so they even made raffia bows and tied a mini paddle to them.
For the rehearsal dinner centerpieces they made macadamia nut milk chocolates, macadamia nut pineapple white chocolates and lilikoi cookies. They even wrapped the chocolates and cookies in blue celafain, put them in a nice mat/​raffia like package and wrapped it in a blue bow with a thank you note attached.
Not only were the centerpieces incredibly beautiful, but the treats were also DELICIOUS! The lilikoi cookie was absolutely to die for and the macadamia nut pineapple white chocolate was bomb.
The ladies at Menehune Mac made our experience so seamless and stress-​free — all we had to do was place the treats order, purchase the materials, and they took care of the rest! And all for a decent price, too. One of the best parts is that they even gave suggestions on what would make the centerpieces look even nicer (i.e., raffia bow with paddle, blue celafain) — spurning some much needed creativity and giving the centerpieces that extra ~touch~ and just that much more special.
Although I have never been to the store, my mom said that parking is pretty easy, the showroom is very nice — and they also give free samples! :)
All in all, if you are looking to host a party and need centerpieces made (and maybe don’t have the time, or creative gene, to do them yourself) we would HIGHLY recommend Menehune Mac! And even if you’re not looking for centerpieces and just want some tasty, local candies — Menehune Mac is great at that too. :)

Lovely family owned Buisness. The President, Neil took my family on the tour. Neil was very informative about the process his company has used for generations to create those delicate little wonders. You will never taste a better chocolate covered macadamia! The process used and time is unmatched to his competitors. Our family loved the tour! Neil is also a great fan of classic rock so pick his brain about Floyd.

Right up front, the 3 stars is for the price.
The Good:
— Great tasting chocolate and other treats.
— They even sell some BBQ sauce that tastes great! Love the spicy.
— Clean little shop.
— Free sampling of the different kinds of chocolates.
The Not So Good:
— The main door is set back from the street, so it is a little hard to find. We almost missed it while driving by because I was looking near the road, and the sign was back a ways.
— Small amount of parking.
— Price. Seriously, I have a problem paying that much for a treat that will not last the day. They were good, but not that good.
Bottom Line: If the prices were more reasonable, I would have given this place 4 stars. It drops down to 3 because it was expensive. I can’t go any higher because See’s chocolates is way better on taste. Still, if you are looking for a treat that is local and tastes great, this is a good place to come.

A delight for BOTH tourists AND locals!
Yes, I’m talking about the FREE samples. Read the previous word. Samples is plural-​ized. There’s a sample for pretty much EVERY single item they have in the store (food-​wise, anyway), and you can pretty much go around and try EVERYTHING. I think the best part about it is that the workers don’t really go around and look at what you’re doing so you don’t feel uncomfortable trying everything once (or a few times =P), although I only tried like two things, cause I really didn’t want to be THAT guy.
Yes, the location is a little out of whack for most people, especially tourists, but you can’t beat fresh handmade chocolates, AND the chance to try before you buy. For a long lunch break I had, I decided to come here with the two Japanese visitors we had working with us so that they could pick up a few souvenirs before they returned home. While they were looking around, I couldn’t help but sneak a few samples in my mouth. OMG. Those sandbars are effin delicious! I had a sample of the lilikoi sandbar and I wanted to keep sampling, but that would’ve been rude. But I know now if I ever need ANY omiyage, this is the place to get them at. I also tried the pineapple snow since it was new to me, and although I personally didn’t care for it (more so because I’m not a big fan of white chocolate), my two Japanese friends really enjoyed it. They have a wide variety of flavors of chocolate covered macadamia nuts you usually can’t get in stores, including the pineapple snow mentioned, matcha latte, orange crème, strawberry crème, and chocolate and Kona coffee.
I was a little bummed out the factory wasn’t creating any chocolates while we were there, but luckily, my friends each walked out with a few boxes of chocolates. I walked out knowing where I’m taking my foreign friends in the future, and exactly where to get omiyage (and maybe the chance to try a couple more samples next time). Menehune Mac is definitely the place to go for gifts and souvenirs for your friends and family!

It is now the summer time and I need to find a million and one things to do so I can keep my kid busy and not bored out of her mind. After a beautiful Memorial Day weekend the weather got a little funky with all this rain so I decided to find something we could do indoors. That is how I ended up here at Menehune Mac.
It’s not a hard building to find but the entrance is kind of weird. You have to go around to the side of the building where you open up a door front then through another set of doors. As we entered we were greeted right away,
Chocolates galore oh my! I have to say the best part is how you can sample EVERYTHING! Not only to they have chocoalte but also cookies, shortbread cookies called sandbars, and party mix. They also have jams and tea for sale. Loved everything! Now if you like milk chocolate they don’t have much of a selection. Majority of their choclates seem to be dark. They do have options also for people that don’t like chocolate but rather have white chocolate. Not sure how those taste like since I LOVE chocolate. Price of the chocoates are a little higher than what you buy at Watmart or Longs but it is quality chocolate.
What I didn’t know was how you could watch the workers make the chocolates. I don’t think I mentioned it but all the chocolates are hand made. So yes that explains why the higher price point besides the quality of the chocolate.
Yes I got a box of choclates, I think it was eight bucks for a nice size box. Yes it all dissapeared in one day. Man it better not rain anymore this summer or else I’ll be stuck with an extra 10 pounds by the time school is back in session.

The macadamia nut sandbars are DELICIOUS! They’re also freaking expensive. Maybe because it’s «hand rolled»? Maybe because it’s full of macadamia nuts? I’m not entirely sure why it’s so damn expensive, but I do know that it’s worth it.
I must have had two or three (or six) bits from the free sample bin when we were there. I tried a bit of everything, honestly, but I kept going back to this sample. And I kept trying to convince myself that it was worth the price.
They sell a good variety of chocolates and cookies, as well as shirts and reusable bags. They also have a window into the production room, which allows visitors to see the candies being processed and packaged, when it’s running. Unfortunately, we went on a day when the line was down, so we didn’t get to see anything. I’d love to go back to see it in action, though.

Menehune Mac is a real Hawaiian Treasure.
I read the review with the vanillin diss, they never mentioned how good the chocolates tasted. I know with inflation, for every local business struggles to keep their product at a good price point, so their chocolatier would have experimented long and hard to keep his standards high
This is a local family run business, they are well known in the Chocolate Industry as having a world-​class offering.
They do not go after machine made loss leader Chocolate but hand make their chocolate in small batches daily. They love their product and you can really taste it.
A visit to Oahu isn’t complete without coming in and meeting this friendly and helpful

Memehune Mac is a hawaii staple, and the best place to discover delicious, locally made products! A few of the products are available at Neiman Marcus but go straight to the factory for the chance to sample everything, see all the goods, and even watch them being made if you stop by in the morning. Whenever I need gifts to bring back to the main land or baskets made I always stop by here. Even if I can’t decide what to put in the baskets, the staff are always more than helpful and recommend products based on what I tell them about the recipient. Their products are a little pricier than their competitors, but the flavor quality and presentation of their products is far superior. A few of my favorites are the lilikoi sandbars, the crunch chocolates, and the party mix. Definitely stop by and check them out if you’ve never been!

I am a fan of their Pineapple Snow Mac Chocolate. I can eat the whole box easily.

Menehune mac is a great shop for its products. I’ve been buying gift baskets with their products for clients!!! I’m never ceased to be impressed by the presentation of their baskets as well as their great service which makes it easy to back again and again!

Menehune Mac is a great example of local Hawaii business. When you walk in, you are greeted by friendly staff who encourage you to sample their products. I knew exactly what I wanted, but left with so much more!
Being from Hawaii, I believe in buying and giving products made in Hawaii when I return to the Main Land. The sandbars are nothing short of amazing! They sell them only at the factory, on-​line and at Neiman Marcus. Neiman’s sells them for $ 40.00, so the factory direct pricing is a MUST ($ 19.99)! The chocolates are delicious and the variety is great!
If you really want to bring back or send the gift of Aloha, visiting them is a must. Also, you can call them and they will honor the factory price and work with you on the shipping (the website price is high for shipping).

I arrived just as they were closing, but the owner very kindly stayed open for me. Not only did he urge me (several times) to «take my time,» he gave me several delicious samples and we ended up having a quite fascinating chat about the cultural mores of Hawai’i and the mainland, specifically the Pacific Northwest. This store really defines «customer service.»
I brought back some of the dark chocolate mocha and dark chocolate macadamia nuts. They are delicious, held their freshness for nearly a month, and are very high-​quality especially for the price. I plan to expand my selection the next time I am in Hawai’i and strongly recommend this vendor for anyone who wants to sample some seriously delicious chocolate. I’m just sad that I ate my last piece this earlier this evening.

Chocolate? If the need for locally produced chocolate or other goods arises, look no further than Menehune Mac Candies in Kalihi. While you can get their products at local stores, nothing beats going to the factory directly and taking in the wonderful smell of chocolate.
The store is laid out with not only Menehune Mac chocolates and products, but also with products that have been made in Hawaii. So, for a unique gift to mail to a friend in California or Bangladesh, be sure to stop by and check out their store. Oh, you’ll still end up with chocolate, cause let’s be honest… dark chocolate is good, arare with chocolate is even better!
Service is good with the staff being incredibly helpful and pleasant. They know a lot about the products they produce and sell and are quick to assist. If the need for favors should arise, be sure to check them out as they produce quite an impressive selection.
Prices are rather reasonable and while it may be more than Mauna Loa and other brands, you definitely are paying for a much better quality product.

I’ve only visited this shop once, but can almost definitely say I’ll be returning. When we entered the shop we were greeted by a friendly man and woman who welcomed us in and encouraged us to explore, sample, and ask any questions we may have. Now, when I say they encouraged us to sample, I mean they REALLY encouraged us! They told us to try as much as we wanted and after we got over our tiny bit of shyness, we sampled away. Our favorited were the dark chocolate mocha, the pineapple snow, the green tea, and the dark chocolate arare. Soooo yummy!
My husband and I are usually a bit shy about taking several samples, but the shop keepers never kept an eye on us so we didn’t feel guilty about trying all they had to offer. A definite plus in my book! That kind of service and feeling of ease is pretty hard to come by these days when all other stores are trying to avoid giving away anything for free.
We ended up purchasing a mixed box of chocolates which included 15 hand picked pieces. It’s nice that you can have a good selection of your favorites all in one box rather than having to be so selective because you don’t want to buy huge boxes of everything.
On one side of the shop there are huge windows looking into the production line, but itwasn’t operational during our visit. That’s too bad because I would’ve enjoyed seeing the chocolates being made, but maybe it’ll give me something to look forward to next time.
I believe I saw something that said you can schedule a party or something similar where you can create your own chocolate dipped mac nuts, etc. I’d look into it if you have an upcoming children’s birthday or other event where you want something fun, unique, and hands-​on to do.
If you haven’t visited Menehune Mac yet, I definitely recommend you taking a few minutes out of your day to stop by and pick up some delicious chocolatey treats.

Orange Crème and Pineapple Snow — these make for great gifts, as not everyone knows about them, and they’re very yummy.

I love stopping into Menehune Mac every time I’m in Hawaii. It’s a great place to cool off on a hot day.
But of course, the main event is the chocolate. Since they have samples of everything, I can tell you that everything is yummy. However, my favorite is the dark chocolate arare. It puts those generic chocolate-​pretzel Flip things with the plastic-​y chocolate to shame, and It’s always a tough choice deciding how many boxes to buy.
Added bonus – The chocolate assembly line inspires visions of Lucy and Ethel, and you can schedule special events or parties there if you want to relive their zany adventures.
The gift shop, while not the biggest one on the island, has a lot of interesting stuff that keeps me wandering around and around, tasting and shopping, picking things up and putting them down, then picking them up again. Usually the prices are better than other tourist places like Dole Plantation, too.
it’s a little off the beaten path for tourists, but it’s well worth the trip. My family who live on Oahu are always glad for the opportunity to take me there when I visit.

This store is DANGEROUS. Like James-​Bond-​spy-​mission-​to-​Soviet-​Russia dangerous. Except for your thighs. And any other part of your body you want to slim down.
There are free samples of practically EVERYTHING! And they don’t care how much you eat. OK, they probably do eventually, but by that point, it’s too late. The orange chocolate covered macadamia nuts are out of this world delicious. The pineapple ones aren’t bad either. Stay way from the green tea ones unless you like the taste of green tea powder. Bleh! The chocolate chip cookies are also fantastic!
The store kind of has a grey, dreary subterranean lighting scheme going on to it, so it’s not the most cheery place to spend a couple of hours, but you’ll probably be too busy stuffing your face to notice.

on certain days you can participate in making your own chocolates. Unfortunately the day that we went, they didn’t have it. But we managed to sample some of their fine chocolates. Okay not some. but we sampled all. They don’t just hand you a chocolate, they have a box filled w/​chocolates where you can sample as many as you want! Milk, white, and dark chocolates!
They also sell other things, like tea, jams, and other snacks.
But if you like chocolates, this place is for you!
the owners were cool, they told us to come back after driving around the area and sample some more!
