Michael’s Barber Shop II

Just came back from this barbershop with a fantastic cut. Kamal hooked my wife up. She made the mistake of going to Great Clips to get a military haircut. She is African American and has short hair. It also has to be within regulations. Long story short, they gave her an uneven mushroom top. Horrible!
So we called around for a black barbershop and found one. I see all the negative reviews on here, but we had great service. She was seated when she hit the door and they had a little bit of a wait. Kamal asked her lots of questions, they went over every detail, and he did an amazing job! Highly recommend him.
He’s funny, kind, and very talented. We paid $ 17 for a military style cut, and left a tip. They only take cash. Everyone else’s haircut looked very nice, and it was good to see them using a straight razor. Place was clean, and the lines were moving pretty steadily. Thanks Kamal

This place isn’t the worst place, but it isn’t your normal haircut place to have the style you want. Definitely a military cut style shop, and whatever style you say you want expect it to be shorter then expected. I said I wanted half off, but literally come out with only ¹⁄₈^th of hair out. I even said like a picture they had, but it was no where near. Buzzers should be band from this place if they want to expand to different hair styles. But again, not saying this is a bad place, but not my style and definitely not a place where you have a say in your hair style.
If you don’t care what your hair looks like then I say come here just to get a haircut. But if you value your hair and want a style that you want then go else where.

FUCK THIS PLACE!!! Never have I felt RACISM in Hawaii then here. I walk into the place wanting a haircut. I seen they use a straight razor. I stood there for 3 mins waiting to be acknowledged, no one did. I ask if there were any opening, they said to get in the back of the line. WHAT LINE!!! I’m so pissed I just want to go in there and drop the «N» word.

** Unilocal SERIOUSLY NEEDS TO ALLOW ZERO STARS** This is the most unprofessional barbershop I have ever been to. I took my husband here to get his haircut because he heard it was a great place to get your haircut. To be brutally honest, based on the price, you aren’t getting much more than you can get from the NEX barbershop. And unless you’re willing to waste your day waiting on someone to even acknowledge your existence, DO NOT COME HERE. My husband never feels uncomfortable, but these jokes for barbers made him feel unwelcome, uncomfortable and invisible. I’m shocked that this establishment is even able to keep their doors open because no one in there actually works! They’re all busy chatting it up with each other and their «regulars», that they don’t welcome new money walking through the door. I sincerely hope this business fails and the doors shut to make room for a business that cares about their people… I can’t wait to get back to the mainland where people take their jobs seriously and actually work for their pay checks. Don’t pay these lazy ass «barbers» a dime to waste your time.

DONT WASTE YOUR TIME!!! They cancel appointments, don’t acknowledge you, and make you wait for hours at a time. Very unprofessional. Will never waste another dollar there ever again. 3 people ahead of me went then I thought it was my turn, then they called 3 more people after me. So I just left. They could have told me «hey, we have appointments for the next two hours just so you know.» But no. Not smart enough for that. Just simply rude.
DONT COME HERE EVER!!!

If you’re new to the island and want a good cut. And I mean good haircut, then this is the best place you’ll find. Great barbers here. Makes you feel like your at your mainland barber.

If you do not have an appointment do not go here. Unless you like being ignored by the barbers until you finally have to ask to get a cut. Me and my son went here one saturday morning before they opened. Waljed in and waited 2 hours to get a gaircut. We didnt even want a haircut by then so we just left.

Michaels barber shop: Only 1 good barber there and he quit. My most recent visit is definitely my last because I sat and waited for ~45 min, which I was fine with, but only to sit down in the barbers chair and he told me he can’t do the type of hair style I want. So he wasted my time and i hope you’re going there for just a buzz cut cause I’m sure that’s all they can do

Excellent barbers for techniques however they have a nonchalant dismeanor. Don’t expect them to work faster for large amount of waiting customers. Highly recommend making an appointment. I was fortunate to walk in 10 am and get service immediately. Michael was sure to let me know there is usually a wait for his service. OK… Nonetheless these guys are excellent at their craft and there are not many on the island can do what they do. Will be 5 stars if they improve customer service.

I am not sure how they assigned customers to their barbers. But I arrived at 12:30pm I signed in their book and was waiting to get a haircut. I was waiting outside I am not sure how many people were in front of me. It is now 2:15pm and still not called. I just left what a waste of my time!

Great service always friendly… Tony to me hands down is the best! he cuts my sons hair all the time never been disappointed by him he takes his time and dosent rush like most ppl do with kids. I am very picky because i know a good cut when i see one. he does great work i had one ok time in here but i am glad i gave it another shot and asked for Tony! The prices are fair inthink its $ 13 for a kids cut not bad for quality and the exceptional service you will receive!!!

First off, not many barbers in hawaii can cut my hair with quality. This place is one of the few places that i would go to get a clean cut. The only thing that bugs me is the price of the cut isnt very reasonable. They also do tatoos here if your into that.

My 1 year old don has been getting his hair braided by Ms Christmas. She is easy going with our son and gets him in and out quickly.

I have been going to Michael’s for just about as long as ever since they had popped up in the Salt Lake Shopping Center. Of course, I had not always gone to them for every single cut (I’ll get to why later).
From what I remember, at first, they originally had just asian people working there, who, to be honest, didn’t exactly specialize in fades and etc. but really just anything else. In fact, I remember that with some cuts that I have gotten there from the ladies they did tend to push back on the hairline (they still do from what I can see) and weren’t too good with fades and line-​ups.
Now, they have those same people working only weekdays (usually Monday through Thursday) and on the weekends they have people who specialize in fades and short haircuts. That is when my dad, little brother, & I go to get our cuts. My favorite barber is Moe, aka «The Bladesmith», he’s usually the one closest to the register and is GREAT at fading. He puts his time into everything and doesn’t rush, gets you out of the door with a clean fade in a reasonable time, and is friendly. He’s also pretty flexible when it comes to appointments.
Over the past 3 – 4 years or so I’ve been trying other barbers as well to see who was the best. Those barbers included Mojo Barbershop in town, LN’s and Angel’s both in Kalihi, Pearl City Barber, and more (posting reviews on those barbers soon, be sure to check it out). I’d have to say that out of all of them, Michael’s is my top favorite. Their prices have always been great and have stayed there — $ 15 for a regular cut, $ 17 with razor line-​up, they also give military discount and cuts are cheaper depending on age.
The ONLY reason as to why I’m giving this barber 4 stars is because if you don’t call in for an appointment the wait time is CRAZY. I once tried to go in on a Friday without an appointment and ended up waiting about an hour for my cut. The other barbers also aren’t too good with letting you know the wait time or with just trying to get you somebody to cut your hair in general. If you’re going in on a weekday and haven’t made an appointment you probably have nothing to worry about, it isn’t that busy on weekdays because most of the people that get their cuts there are military and from what I assume are busy with work.
All in all, great place to get your haircut if you’re in the area or need a really clean cut.

Never again I will come here. I walked in as soon as I did the one Asian MAN barber kept eyeing me out because of my long hair. Hell I was working 7 days a week and long hours two jobs. He just kept eyeing me out until it was my turn.
I like my hair cut short like blade #1 or whatever they call it but kept insisting I keep it longer. I know what want so don’t try to argue with me!
During service he was so RUDE he even stop not ONCE, not TWICE but a total of FOUR TIMES to chance the channel on the TV.
AVOID this place at all costs. Next time if a place get SNOTTY, RUDE, BAD ATTITUDE I’m not tipping! I know how it is not to TIP but this RUDE ASIAN MAN pushed me over to the edge.

Great Experience with my son’s 1^st Haircut with @cookingcutz. Walked in 20 mins prior to appt and I was sat right in the chair with my 18 month old. Yes my son act a fool but being the professional and experience of the barber it went well. Will be their weekly with my lil man! Thanks @cookingcutz

Ok for a quick military cut. They push back a lot on the line ups. It’s horrible! Hair starts growing back and you’ll be heading back to the barber shop in a week. Customer service is bad! It’s either here or go to super cuts or fantastic sam. They both suck too! FYI tell your barber exactly how you want your hair done. Bring a picture if u need too.

Go on the weekends for a great cut. The weekday crew is entirely different. During the week, it is like going to super cuts, on the weekends it is like going to your mainland barber shop where everyone one gets their fresh cut before going out. I take my son there, and have yet to be disappointed. The lines can be long, but it is so worth knowing your teenager will be happy.

This was the first time coming to the barber shop. I went Saturday afternoon. I went to take my son to get his hair cut. The barber did an awesome job! It would have been five stars but they didn’t say anything to me when I came in. Though, hubby says that this is typical for a barber shop, lol, what would I know! I go to beauty salons:)! But I would definitely recommend coming here on the weekend for cuts!
