This is the spot where the hip locals buy their sharp fitting button downs and the best in vintage inspired dresses for the ladies. The Aloha shirts are all made small batch and have become collectors items. Dresses are snatched up by international fans from Japan and Australia.

This shop is also packed with the best in handmade bags, packs, totes and accessories that you won’t find elsewhere in the islands. Business Owner

A collection composed of vintage-​modern menswear and Mod-​vibed dresses is the brainchild of photographer and collage artist, turned self-​taught fashion designer, Roberta Oaks. A Missouri native and country-​girl at heart, Oaks’ artistic roots date to her farmhouse childhood and hippie parents.

Inspired by her simple retro lifestyle, her vintage car, mid-​century modern Hawaiian design and architecture, and a deep appreciation for traveling and culture, the Roberta Oaks brand recalls the fabulous 60’s in vibe, but with an up-​to-​date, modern fit and aesthetic. Fun print and color combos are shaped into clean lined, modern silhouettes.

The brand was born in 2004 and expanded to include menswear and a storefront in 2009.

The men of downtown are an interesting breed. You can inevitably determine their personality by the brand of aloha shirt that they wear. Reyns inevitably says you are have either made it or well on your way, Kahala is the tradition, and Rix says your young and upcoming. Yet, what if you don’t fit the mold? What if you want something different that says «Bam!»
Well.then it it is time to head to head to the edge of downtown and hit up Roberta Oaks.
Its small. But it serves up an amazing selection of unique and original styles. The patterns/​prints are definitely trendy and different. While the fit is definitely for the modern gentleman.
If you’re lucky, you’ll meet Roberta herself. If not, her staff are really helpful and able to assist with the size and styles you need.
Plus you get to support a local business that is just fabulous!
Oh…parking, I know, it can be a pain. But there is a municipal lot right across the street!

Roberta Oaks is a gem! Her designs are fresh and crisp, fun and youthful. I really love the shirts I’ve purchased there… island prints and colors with an eye towards dressier cuts and details. All her designs are made in Hawaii, which itself is a good reason to shop there. Women’s fashions are upbeat and creative. She uses cotton that has a crisp finish, not so relaxed, and well suited to slimmer bodies. I also find little accessories that make nice gifts.
Really a great place if you are looking for alternatives to shapeless island styles.

This place is awesome, my favorite aloha shirt company in the aloha state! I saw an «uncle» wearing one at my uncle Buffalo Keaulana’s 80th birthday party, and asked where he got it from because I absolutely had to have it. I ended up finding this beautiful shop and purchasing that exact shirt. I, in turn wore it to a wedding in San Francisco and had a couple approach me the same way I did at my uncle’s party!
I have recently returned for more shirts for a couple of upcoming events out of state and I am pleased to say I found more of what I love about this place.
The staff was very helpful and helped me find the perfect fit and design for the tone I was looking for!
This is was the same day I went to Reyn Spooner and thrift shopping for alternatives on both ends of the price spectrum!

Cool, hip, urban is what describes Roberta Oaks best. Ladies, skip the aloha stores, the shopping malls and tourist traps and bring your guy here for a truly unique spin on a Hawaiian shirt. Roberta, the owner, is the designer and her men’s shirts are all made in Hawaii. She sources unique fabrics which you won’t see elsewhere which means your dude will be sporting a look which won’t be mass produced. Patterns run the gamut from somewhat subdued to boldly colored.
Ok, you’ve taken care of your man, now fill your shopping bag with goodies for yourself– cute sundresses, darling gift items, handmade greeting cards (courtesy of Roberta’s sister), and jewelry. Oh, if a tall, charming, blonde assisted you with your shopping experience, that’s Roberta. Tell her I sent you!

This is my one-​stop shop for gifts and for myself. Roberta Oaks has a small but great selection of dresses, aloha shirts, bags, jewelry, and some bath/​kitchen items. She has some of the best selection of Hourglass Lilly dresses and it is a pretty good deal if the dresses make it to the sale rack.
If you are visiting Hawai’i and want something unique from the islands, I recommend an aloha shirt for men and an accessory from a local jewelry designer for women.
The shopping experience is best on a First Friday when staff serves complimentary mixed drinks as you shop.

I don’t know where I should start with this post. Maybe I should start at their voicemail. The beginning of the voicemail there’s a greeting and then she goes in to the hours of operation. She says (literally) don’t leave a message because it doesn’t get checked frequently! LOL!!! «just call back during business hours» then something like have a good day, Aloha which sounds fake.
Called back and someone (assuming the owner because it was the same person on the answering machine) picked up and I asked for a specific kind of product hoping they had it or something similar. She sounded as if she rolled out of bed answered the phone and I was interrupting her. Not helpful at all, very short and abrupt. What I would have wanted to hear and what would have benefitted their store was «guess what we don’t have anything like you’re describing, but I invite you to come down to the store and I’m sure we can find something». The funny thing is knowing me, I would have.
Today you lost a potential customer and I will share this with all my friends. I honestly have been wanting to come down to the shop since seeing your add in FLUX. I work in downtown and know a lot of people in the industry. Why would someone be so rude and not willing to help? You have nothing different then stores in Chinatown Ala Moana or anywhere else. Awesome service at the end is the deal breaker and what brings people in to create life long relationships. If you’ve worked this hard to build this store, I’m sure you can work just as hard with service. Aloha!

Through the recommendation of some friends from Conde Nast, I made sure to stop at Roberta’s to pick up some «not-​so-​cheesy/​touristy» souvenirs. The shirts are beautiful and locally made.

The absolute cutest boutique known for their handcrafted clothing right here at home. Their Aloha shirts are definitely a piece you want to see in your closet for both men and women. If you’re lucky you might even find matching shirts for you and your hubby :) The cost of supporting local does have its price and a lot of the pieces here are a bit on the high end for my taste, however, I constantly find myself strolling in every time I’ve been in Chinatown since discovery in hopes of falling in LOVE with that one Aloha shirt I cannot live without. With that being said, their stylish sunglasses are surprisingly cheap and has become our new go to place for cheap and hip shades! This is the type of place anyone can walk out with something, but for me it’s one of those stores that makes me want to work so I can trade some of that hard earned bacon for THE perfect Aloha shirt!
Definitely take a peeksy because the girls at the counter are always friendly, the ambiance is fresh and you might walk in thinking Aloha shirts are for boring corporate folks (no offense) and walk out an Aloha shirt fan!

Me in anything floral print, aloha shirt or not, was not something anyone would ever expect. But, the nice girl at Roberta Oaks found one that fit my style. They had some pretty cool polka dot shirts as well. I am an athletic guy. Finding shirts that are not baggy at the stomach was an added bonus!
This is however almost strictly a shirt store for men’s clothes. They did have some shorts and one pair of pants, but that isn’t their thing. I just spent 4 months in the tropics. I wanted an outfit that fit my style but said, «I just spent 4 months in the tropics.» The shirt I got from this store fit the bill perfectly. I can’t wait to wear it for my gal upon my return home!

When I got home, I noticed a latent defect in the item I had purchased. I emailed Roberta, and she got back to me very promptly. I was a bit disappointed at first, because I live quite far away from the shop, and would have to navigate Chinatown parking and such to go in and return the item. Roberta’s friendliness and aloha spirit in our email correspondence made the trip that much easier. I went in, returned the item, and was out the door. Julia helped me with the return and was very friendly. She said something to the effect of «we want the customer to be happy,» while she was handling the return. I believe that the store and staff truly live by these words.
On another note, although the clothes are a little on the pricier side, you can definitely tell they’re of great quality. They also look even better in person! Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area, or even if you’re not.

I’ve been a Roberta fan since she was doing pop ups at discos years ago. Her shop with jewelry, clothing, books, incense, sunglasses, backpacks and more is always clean and bright and humming with a laid back vibe. Highly recommend.
Parking on the street (meters take credit cards) or in the Chinatown Municipal lot right across Pauahi. Check her out. Aloha

Ever since Jerry Seinfeld told me that «…every city needs a Brooklyn,» I have noticed more and more hipster-​type stores and restaurants all over this island. The verdict is still up whether our version of hipster heaven is Kakaako or China Town, but a shop like Roberta Oaks bumps China Town into the lead for now.
This boutique is small, but packed with style and clothing that every millennial should love. Being a man who loves to look good, I am very happy to have a small shop like this where I can get unique pieces. The shirts don’t just fit in in Hawaii either, they go with my skinny jeans, vintage boots, and thick rimmed glasses as well. This look works in most major cities in America these days. That is the mark of a great designer, aloha shirts that fit in to any style of outfit.
Throughout the store, there are many different items: aloha shirts, regular shirts (short sleeve of course), bags, accessories, dresses, women’s shirts. Everything in here goes with my style, but I especially love the vintage map pattern shirts. Nothing is cooler than a linen shirt with a map of the Sandwich Islands on it. If you look close enough, there is even a whale swimming outside of the islands.
The owner of the store is very nice and helpful and if you go at the right time, her cute employee will help you out. She seems to like the clothes as much as the customers do, and that really helps when looking for opinions on what to wear.
Overall, I would highly recommend this shop to anyone who wants to have a great looking shirt or dress. The patterns are unique and vintage, but the cut pulls these products into the 21st century and beyond. I dare you to not love this shop.

I found the greatest aloha shirt I’ve ever seen and snatched it up right away. There is a great selection of men’s and women’s clothing that you’ll never find anywhere else.
The owner and the people who work in this store are very kind and helpful. It’s a nice laid-​back store so you can take your time, try things on and ponder what works best for you.
What you will find here are lots of really unique gift ideas and awesome clothing styles and accessories that you won’t find anywhere else. Shop for yourself first, then shop for gifts in this great boutique.

If I had all the money in the world, I’d enlist Roberta to be my personal tailor.
She has a penchant for sourcing the most fabulous fabrics and prints and knows a thing or two about how to cut them right. My newest favorite shirt is the Japanese wave pattern in a cerulean blue. It’s really striking and I’ve gotten a number of compliments from it.
I love that she makes her own patterns for both men and women’s wear, which Is pretty difficult. Her attention to detail is impeccable.
Roberta is also one of the sweetest people you’ll meet! She loves when people visit her cute store and really makes them feel welcome.
Here range of products is about as awesome as she is – in addition to the clothes she puts her label on, she carries a bunch of other quality items like bags, sunnies, and even iPhone cases!
If I’m looking for the perfect gift for a stylish friend, RO will probably be my first and last stop.

Almost wasn’t able to visit the shop because Roberta was grabbing some lunch, but LUCKILY as we were walking away from peeking through the windows she hollered at My Sister and I about coming in. So we did… and boy I’m happy I did.
I liked her modern take on the classic Aloha shirt. The surprisingly fun prints and patterns really caught my eye. I liked the slim fit on the shirts too. She even gave me 10% off a shirt because it was the last one in stock!
Most of all, I really enjoyed Roberta’s energy and personality. She chatted with us for a bit and got to learn about her journey to Hawaii and getting into making her own clothes.
I’m glad there’s an online shop, I will definitely be checking that out for future items.

A locally owned small business by the cutest, sweetest owner Roberta Oaks. While her clothes are pricey, they are made and designed 100% by her. We stepped into the shop late on First Friday. She helped my friend pick out a nice collared shirt.
The jewlery was really cute as well. I loved the vibe in the store and she was very friendly and welcoming. Are the clothes expensive? Yeah. Could you get a better deal elsewhere? Yeah. But, really, you’re supporting a small business and buying from a caring, down-​to-​earth, amazing person. I would recommend her store to anyone!

A tiny shop that packs a wicked fashion punch! I love the classic feel of Roberta Oaks’ dresses and you will too if you love bright colors, ginham checks, plaids, seersucker fabrics, bows, and tailored bodices!
I got a beautifully tailored knee length dress with a sweetheart neckline in red seersucker with a bright orange bow in the back. Too cute! (See my picture posted on the business page!) The dresses here make you feel cute and classic like you stepped out of the past. There’s something that makes you feel so cute when you’re in a girly bright dress!
My grandmother was a seemstress in the 70s and she made great dresses in similar styles. Maybe that’s why I’m so drawn to these!
They also carry men’s aloha shirts in vintagy prints which I love! They do run «slim» though, so they won’t fit your beer gut if you have one! :)

I had an amazing experience here! The minute I walk in, I got a friendly greeting by Roberta herself as if we’ve been long time friends.
I was on a mission to find the perfect cocktail dress for a wedding. Of course I fell in love with all the different styles and color combinations — vintage meets funky modern with a girly-​twist! It was not long before I couldn’t decide on just one.
A midst my dilemma, Roberta, who was providing her stylistic feedback this whole time, surprisingly pulled out a dress from the rack that she thought might look good on me. and YES, of course, she was right. In the end, i came out of the store a very happy girl who had an awesome shopping experience. If it weren’t for the excellent service and genuine feedback, I wouldn’t have been able to make a decision myself.
Bottom line, if you’re looking for a one-​of-​a-​kind dress that looks good on all body types, visit this place!
