I had finished my bootcamp class and in need for some protein! Well, I knew the wards farmers market was open from 8am to 12pm. My goal was pick up some greens then cross the street to buy my chicken;). That is exactly what I did.
Your nose will definitely guide you to where It’s stationed. The smoke of bbq has your feet running here. There was a huge charcoal grill with a numerous amount of chicken laying on top. It looked as if they were all taking a nap. Once the nap was over they were placed in plastic bags to be sold to the masses. One of them was me!;). Whatever seasoning they used to marinate the chicken created a sweet soy flavor. Having it being cooked on the charcoal grill gave it a smokey flavor which I thoroughly enjoyed. I paid my five bucks, which was very reasonable and found a seat. I chose just to order a half. They also have the brown bag option which came with a half chicken, two musubis, chips or kimchee, and a drink for only 7.50! You can’t beat that for a meal. I started to tear apart my chicken into small pieces. It was hard to not be messy lol. Can you say finger licking good! It was moist and tender with parts of the skin being crispy. Being that it was given in a small plastic bag, I managed to eat it neatly lol yea right ;) The only con I would say is that, I found that the drumstick was a little pink. Needless to say, I didn’t eat that part fear of getting sick. The rest was fine, but maybe just a few more minutes on the grill would perfect an all around cooked chicken. :)

Can’t believe they only have 13 reviews as of today. I always see people line up and they sell out quite often early in the day. The chicken is pretty dang good, they give you a lot of it, and it’s a really good deal. You get a couple of plain musubi’s which are small but hey, it’s such a low price no complaints at all. And it comes with a drink. There’s a couple of picnic tables you can sit at but of course you can always take it home. They accept credit cards now with a $ 10 minimum which I think they did not do in the past. You really can’t beat the deliciousness/cost ratio. I just wish they were open more than once a week in the neighborhood.

Used to be called«mean da chicken» which lives up to its phrase, a phrase in which«mean» means very good– The chicken is… Pretty good prices for quality foodplus 2 small musubis, one drink, and kimchee. Buggah is Ono. Nothing like a brown paper bag full of Ono food

If you follow your nose around Kakaako on Saturday mornings, you will end up in the Sports Authority parking lot like me. Why? Because all those chickens doing the huli-huli dance will smell soooooo good that you’ll have to have one, even if it’s at 8:15am. $ 6.25 brown bag lunch includes: ½ huli huli chicken, 2 mini musubis, a bag of chips(or kim chee) and a cold drink. This is a great deal, and the half-chicken was moist, juicy(do not eat in your car!), and hit the spot at 8:30am! (You can also buy the ½ chicken by itself for $ 4.25) SATURDAYSONLY starting at 8am. Park at Sports Authority and follow your nose. This is not a store, not a truck, it’s just a chicken booth/stand. Winner winner chicken breakfast.

Thanks to Davy F. for this recommendation! Stanley’s huil huli chicken was awesome! Every succulent bite reminded me of the days we used to make huli huli chicken for high school fundraisers. What’s more, I rarely if ever eat the chicken skin, but the char and marinade was so good I figure it was worth the extra calories. I ordered the brown bag lunch for three people, and the total was $ 18.75. The nice lady bagging my order forgot to give two musubi per order, but she was polite when I pointed out the missing musubi. Then, she forgot to give me my change. Small kine messup since I should have remembered to get MORENAPKINS!

Even though the rotisserie at Sams/Costco is a way better deal, it’s worth the few extra bucks to buy the chicken from Stanley’s. It’s 100 times better, and you’re supporting a small local business. I’ve been living in the Ward area for 3 years, and only this past weekend did I manage to get my behind down to Stanleys to try their chicken. WTF took me so long? I have no idea. But now that I have, I’ll be hitting these guys every Saturday fo shua!

Ah, my love affair with chicken, especially Huli Huli chicken, spans many years! When the name«Huli Huli» chicken is mentioned, one conjures up images of half chickens skewered on rods rotating slowly over piping hot kiawe wood coals, smoke billowing into the air and into the surrounding areas of hungry people… «Follow your nose» or just find the source of the smoke and you will come upon the Holy Grail of BBQ chicken! Used to be that the only way I can remember of getting these tender morsels of chicken was either a fundraising sale, carnival or special event. Today however, there are a number of establishments who prepare this style of chicken around the island. My favorite is Stanley’s. They are located just across the parking lot from Marukai in the Ward Farmers Market on Auahi Street. They are only in operation on Saturdays, so since I had a rare Saturday off, I headed there to pick up lunch. You have two ways of getting your Huli Huli chicken fix there. You can buy just the chicken for $ 4.25 or you can get the brown bag lunch for $ 6.25 and with it you get 2 small musubis, kim chee or chips and a cold drink. Totally worth it. Lot’s of parking and easy to find. They also have in my opinion, the tastiest marinade! So, if you’re in the Ward area on Saturdays, go look for them and bring lot’s of napkins with you, you’re gonna need them!

Stanley is a good guy and his chicken is great. I go on Saturdays before I start work because it’s only in the parking lot… and comes with generic brand sodas that Safeway carries… I always get da cream soda…

I finally got a Saturday off and it’s off to Stanley’s Chicken. Hey for $ 6 you get a brown bag lunch. Half chicken, chips, 2 mini musubis, and a drink. How can you go wrong. It’s a light lunch and very flavorful. Good tasting Huli chicken.

Wow! Another awesome find that I literally stumbled upon. It was a Saturday morning and I was on my way to find a Starbucks for my morning java fix. According to my handy dandy iPhone app, there was a Starbucks just around the corner at Ward & Auahi. As I parked my car, I noticed a wonderful aroma of barbecue sumfin. There at the end of the lot was a white tent with a line of people standing there. I was definitely curious so I walked on over. Mmm. .. BBQ chicken! On the small whiteboard only two menu items written in dry-erase ink — $ 4 Half chicken, $ 6 Brown Bag Special(the half chicken along with 2 rice musubi, chips and a can soda). Not really wanting the carb load, I ordered the $ 4 chicken. I did have to wait several minutes for my order to be filled though. I must’ve hit it during the«rush hour». The young woman taking the orders and the money, was working her b**t off trying fill the pre-orders(call-ins). Those customers had already been waiting in line. They were definitely«regulars» as she called out each person’s name while handing them their orders. It was worth the wait. Oh, so ono! The sauce that it’s dipped in is shoyu-based with some sweetness to it. The meat was all-out tender, fall-off-da-bone delicious. And what a value — half a chicken for four bucks! Can’t beat dat, braddah! The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars? It should be open more than just one day a week!

My family used to always make it a Sat lunch thing My Dad who just loves this would always ask me if I’m coming over so I could go pick up the Chicken :-) They are always friendly and everything tastes good I like to go with the Kim Chee rather than the Chips and the Musubi are always nice and warm the Best way to eat it is at the park but I usually end up at my parents home heh, Some times though it’s hard to find parking and you have to make a quick stop to grab your chicken but since they are fast no problem. Love that Huli Huli Chicken and no wonder this became our family Sat thing for a while. Darn now I’m getting hungry for this and I have to wait until tomorrow if I want one…(They are only there on Saturdays as far as I know)

5÷4÷2013− Stanley is no longer here. Another Huli-Huli chicken place(«Mean Da Chicken») is in it’s place. Good News= it’s the exact same delicious chicken and deal. SATURDAYSONLY! It’s not very often that I get a Saturday off. I started making a list of everything that I wanted to do today, after my 9AM eyelash perm & tint(at BeautiGoddess, guys– you wouldn’t understand-lol) appointment. I didn’t have time to eat breakfast, so I knew that I wanted something delicious for lunch. Oh yes, it’s Saturday– yippy! I can go get some Huli-Huli chicken, at Stanley’s! Happiness! You get lucky if you time it right and the chicken is waiting for you. Today, I got there around 12PM. The next batch wouldn’t be ready until 12:45PM. I already knew that it is worth the wait, so I paid for a lunch($ 6) + 1 half($ 4). Yeh, I pig out. It’s good! I decided to go look at that Farmer Market place, since I have never been in there before. Time passed fast and soon I was on my way home, with my delicious meal in-hand. It was soooo good! Love the sauce that they use! Try it, but remember– they are only there on Saturday! 8am — about 2:30pm, but they are sometimes sold out by 2pm! I usually just double park and grab mine. *I noticed that a few people put reviews under«Stanley’s Chicken Market», as well. ** Went again on Sat 1/22, around 12:30pm– no wait! Chicken was ready. :) Darnit, went back at 2:15 pm for more, but it was gone and they were packing up. I think I better change their time to about 2:30pm, not 5.
