I drove by the restaurant last week and they are CLOSED!!! The furniture in the store all are GONE! Does anyone know if they move to another location?

Dailey home style Japanese comfort food. Tasty, good quality, simple, sushi is good, and service is excellent.

Unfortunately, I was not impressed. They had some good dishes(tsukune & konnyaku), but I did not have any«wow». When we tried their cold tofu with gelee, something tasted funny — like unfiltered water. Not sure if it was from the tofu or the wooden dish bowl they used(been washed too many times?), but it was odd.

Ladies, if you’ve got a big appetite and it happens to be a Wednesday then I HIGHLY recommend coming here for all you can eat Shabu Shabu or Sukiyaki. On Wednesdays they offer a discounted price of $ 20 for ladies(I think it’s normally $ 27). Between five of us, we had 3 rounds of beef and 5 or 6 rounds of veggies so we definitely got our money’s worth. I’ve actually never been a big fan of sukiyaki because I normally don’t care for sweet sauces with my meat but I will say that this definitely hit the spot after a nice long hike and only eating a granola bar in the morning, on top of that it was a chilly and rainy night. The atmosphere here is not the fanciest compared to other sushi restaurants in the area but I think people come here for the comfort of the food. I tried a few pieces of nigiri(ikura and tobiko) and it was pretty good so I’d definitely like to come back and sit at the sushi counter and try all of their other food. The reason why I only gave this place 3 stars is because of service. I was pleased with the food but our server must have been new because she seemed so timid when taking our order and very soft spoken. We had about 3 or 4 different servers who kept coming to our table but we would repeatedly tell them«we already ordered more from the other girl» or «were still waiting on our vegetables» and it didnt seem too busy. This comes off as lack of communication. Also, we asked to split the check to the same timid Japanese girl. She did not seem to understand how to split the check but just said OK anyways and walked off. Fortunately I was eating with Japanese friends so they went after her and explained how to split it in Japanese so then she got it. Of course it took almost 15 minutes to get our check back and this is because our server decided to but and set a table while our check is just sitting at the cashier which could have been dropped back to us before but I’m just going to assume this was her first day working. which is why I’m rating this experience 3 instead of 4.

Been a while since I reviewed my favorite sushi restaurant. I went back a little while ago and ordered an omakase sushi set for one. Me and the mrs. decided to sit at the table instead of the counter(since the mrs. doesn’t eat much sushi). Not only did the omakase fill me up it was fantabulous =D. Best part, it didn’t break the bank. My omakase came out to less than 60. With the wife’s dish, an appetizer or two, a bottle of hot sake, and tax/tip; the dinner didn’t set me more than $ 120. Excellent dinner for the price. Special occasions I can understand the Sasabune’s or Onodera’s but when Benkei-san says«Thank you and see you again tomorrow» this is a winnah!

This was my first time here, but also my first time eating sukiyaki! I don’t know why I waited so long. We had the all you can eat dinner option and it was decently priced. The food was amazing, although we never received our rice. I overlooked that since it would’ve made much now full than I already was. I agree the service is a little slow, but after being served out meat and vegetables our server turned on the grill, laid out some meat to cook, added the vegetables and the sauce for us. I personally appreciated it because it was my first time there. My friend knew what to do, but I still enjoyed it. Also, ladies, if you go on a Wednesday its cheaper for you! They have like ladies night or something! Definitely check it out then! I will be back, with stretchier pants. ;)

Gotta agree with some of the reviews commenting about slow service. Not sure how to justify me & my husband spending nearly two hours there when it’s not even a fine dining restaurant. They sat us on a deuce table hidden in the corner so we were kind of ignored that I had to flag down or make eye contact with server #1 to place our order. I asked her to bring us extra napkins and waited. She had gotten busy so I had to ask server #2 and she was on top of it, brought the napkins right away. Somehow server #2 started taking over and tending to us because again server #1 kept forgetting us and waited on the other tables. It was only when we were all done eating, fumbling our thumbs that server #1 finally came and asked if we wanted our tab. Quick to collect money I see but slow to serve our table. Hah! Go figure. Other than the service, the food was exceptional. We ordered the AYCE shabu shabu, course A selection. Rib Eye was very tender and tasty with the dipping sauce. It was so delicious that we had two plates! Thus, 3 stars given for that only.

Sushi Bistro Shun is located on the left side of king street, not too far passed the Times Supermarket. I have passed by this place for years, but for some reason never stopped to check it out. One night when we were walking by, I decided to look at the menu they had displayed outside. We agreed them menu looked good and the prices weren’t bad at all. So we decided to finally give it a try! The Grub. [[ WASABIDORI $ 3.50 ]] Don’t get scared when you see the words wasabi, this dish wasnt spicy at all! I was amazed how they were able to catch the wasabi flavor without the spice! [[ TONKOTSUUDON $ 9 ]] I loved the broth for the udon and the noodles were cooked just they way I like them, not soggy but soft and still chewy. [[ BACONWRAPPEDENOKI $ 3.50 ]] You really cant go wrong with this dish! Anything wrapped in bacon is always a good idea. [[ SPECIALTSUKUNE $ 3.75 ]] This was delish! I like tsukune and I like eggs, so why not eat them together! So simple but genius! [[ AGEDASHITOFU $ 8 ]] The agedashi tofu was good. I personally felt like they put too much of the dried bonito flakes, but that’s just a personal preference. Overall: I definitely want come back so I can try the AYCE shabu shabu and fresh sushi!

Walk, ride or drive by this place all the time just never went into it. So we decided hey let’s check the place out… Cool interesting place nice décor but I’ve been told it’s pretty much the same as the last restaurant that was here. The food was pretty good not overall outstanding but good nothing to complain about, our water cups never got a refill, although the food came out quick waiting to get the check took forever since the waiter never came around we finally had to flag him down, if we had gotten a refill on our water and at least checking on us I would have given them another star but that is what it is for our experience.

My all time favorite Japanese restaurant! This place offers a variety of Japanese cuisine, it is literally like a one-stop location for all your Japanese cuisine cravings! I tried pretty much everything except for the shabu-shabu. The beef tataki, diced beef, and gyu-tongue is a must have on every visit. The sushi and chirashi is top quality! No matter what izakaya(ala-carte) items you order, you can never go wrong! The sushi bar is a great experience. The main sushi chef is very friendly, always keeping you engaged in interesting conversations. Be nice to him and he may bring you some complimentary appetizer/dishes for you to sample. The service @ the sushi counter is top notch! No matter how busy or crowded they are, they will always cater to the customers at the counter top first. The wait time for any single piece sushi is like less than a minute upon ordering. As other reviewers have mentioned; the dine in service isn’t necessarily the greatest, but it isn’t the worst either. I’ve came here about a dozen times and I always see a different group of staff each time. Seems like they hire Japanese exchange students from Tokai university, UH, KCC, or wherever, because they’re usually gone by the next semester or so. So that being said, don’t let the highlights of other reviewers regarding«bad service» stop you from dropping in! Sushi bar 5 stars! Dining in(service) 4 stars! Overall 4.5! I am look forward to my next visit to satisfy my hunger with variety of izakaya and chef’s Omakase.

I took my wife for an 2nd experience at Sushi Shun Bistro for some nigiri sushi and sake. The whole experience was awesome! We were the only ones at the sushi bar and itamae san Ben was so nice to us. Whether it was our personality or the stars and galaxies were aligned tonight, we clicked. Itamae Ben-san was so nice to us. The sushi was so nice and he introduced some small sample/tapa dishes to try. What itamae san would do this to a first time customers!!! My wife and I enjoyed the experience and were soooo full. We didn’t expect much but sometimes others treat us unexpectedly good as they want to be treated as mutual respect towards each other. With that said, we became friends. I guess our personalities clicked on ALL8 cylinders! Domo arigatoo Ben San and to your staff! As you say, see you tomorrow! But we say, mata raishuu! Mahalo for the sushi experience!

So I must say service here is only good when Moose is working. If he isn’t working, the new girl servers are horrible. Only dine here if Moose is working. He gives the best service so I don’t mind tipping 50%. He belongs in a fine dining restaurant because his service matches excellent service as if he was a server at La Mer in Halekulani. He pays attention to detail and if you order sukiyaki(not all you can eat) he will start it off and cook the beginning portion for you. Sushi and sashimi here is delicious and always good cuts! I will dine here in the future.

Located on King Street a little bit before Mccully if you’re going east. There’s a small parking lot that can fit about 10 cars. If you get a stall, I suggest you reverse park. The food was very delicious. I had an assortment of sushi and other side dishes. The price matched the quality and presentation of the food. Service was fast, but it wasn’t very busy. The food came out at a decent rate and the server was friendly. We were often asked if we needed anything else. Four star. Would visit again.

I visited Sushi Bistro Shun in late May with my friend and her husband. It was my first time been here. We ordered shabu shabu, sashimi and ice cream tempura. Vegetables were fresh, the quality of meat was great. Sashimi was good, too. The greeting from chef was spacial at this place. The chef didn’t say Thank you very much, please come next time but«See you tomorrow!» I like this.

I have yet to find a better place who makes california roll(8 pieces). The crab and rice are fresh melts in your mouth. Food is ALWAYS good! I’ve been here at least 8 times, never a complaint on food. Will be back. Small and perfect, not too crowded.

This was my husband and I first time here. We had the all you can eat sukiyaki. The soup was very delicious. They gave us a wholé platter of meat and veggies. This was too much for us to finish. We also ordered a spider roll it was very good and the Nori was fresh. It was rolled to perfection. I hate getting sushi that isn’t rolled correctly and falls apart. This one was perfect. The atmosphere is of a quaint Japanese restaurant. Very clean and the waitresses were very friendly and attentive. My husband and j will definitely be returning.

My boyfriend knows sushi is my favorite food and although it is pricey he always takes me to all the best places… Here is one of the places, this is a hole in the wall spot right in front of S King st and you may miss it if you aren’t looking for it. Came here on a weeknight and the place wasn’t pack, but the place is small… it’s a very homey feeling with specials all on the wall and a sushi bar right when you walk in. The waitresses and waiters here are very nice. The furniture and carpet is outdated but who cares when the food is great. Prices are a little pricey but the quality and semi quantity of the food makes it okay. We got the sashimi platter(not sure the name) but there were salmon, hamachi, taco(octopus), ahi and calamari… alll fresh fish and good big cuts. We also got the hamachi roll which was really good and their wasabi taco so friken good! This was the place that I was introduced to taco wasabi and this was the place that got me hooked to that! Basically it’s just raw taco(octopus) with wasabi… they don’t add enough wasabi so we always have to ask for extra wasabi on the side and we just mixed it right in.
