A quality haircut at a pretty quality price. So why the 4-star review instead of 5? Well, a couple reasons. As I said, a quality price, however, they neglected to inform me that if a card was used there would be an additional dollar or two added on. The second reason for docking the score a star is the atmosphere. It is a pretty dull place to be. The paint looks worn out, the posters look like they’re from the 90’s, no one really talks too much, and no music is playing. Now, that stuff isn’t necessary, but it’s nice to have. Even with these pitfalls, I’ll keep coming back to Varsity Barber because they have a quality cut at a quality price. Next time I’ll be sure to bring cash though!

Ask for June. That guy can cut!!! «Got e’m» Go around 5−7pm during the weekdays, its less busy so they can do some magic on ya head. 15 $ haircut…:(butttttttt it beats paying $ 20 – 25 nowadays. I Only wish they had some music.

Ok haircut at an ok reasonable price, but wow such a joyless place. I felt like somehow I was disturbing them by giving my business. I had to ask to have my ear hair trimmed and it was like I was asking for something very weird. Come on, a little service would lead to much better tips and more satisfied customers. I really don’t know whether I’d go back or not. Now that the barbershop on campus at UH is closed, I would like to like this place, as it is the most convenient location for me to go, but gosh it really wasn’t a very pleasant experience.

A fine old school barber shop. I had the older gentleman, and he did a great cut… took his time. $ 13 cut plus $ 1 if you use credit card. Not a chatty place but that’s ok.

My go to place. They are quick, convenient, and well priced. Good for a no hassle in-and-out, and simple cut. I never need to make an appointment and they are so efficient, that the most I ever wait is like 10 minutes if they are all working on other customers when I walk in.

Incredible haircuts for an exceptional price. I’ve been getting haircuts from Jun at Varsity Barber ever since he opened up his own business over 20 years ago. I’m certain that every one does a terrific job, but I’ve been spoiled. There’s just something about getting a haircut and knowing that it’s the exactly what you wanted. I call ahead to make an appointment, which assures me that I’m always next in line when I arrive. Everyone seems dedicated to providing quality haircuts, and customer satisfaction, rather than experimenting on what they feel will look good on you, or even worse, just not doing a good job. I’ve never even thought about going anywhere else.

I get pretty good haircuts consistently from here and there’s usually no line. I also like their hours. They’re open on Saturday and Sunday till 6 pm I think. My haircut cost $ 13.61. I was in and out in 10 – 15 minutes with a cut I was happy with so I’m a fan.

sorry, I guess I was spoiled by my amazing mainland barber(where you got your hair cut, hot lather neck/hairline shave with straight-edge razor, eyebrows and ear hair all trimmed, and scalp massage with a hot towel to finish… all for $ 15…,)… so far, all I’ve found in Hawaii is quick lazy buzz cuts with little attention to detail and no additional grooming. Varsity Barber was no better or worse than the other 4 places I’ve tried. And only slightly better than I can do on my own in the mirror. … and when I entered I asked if they took credit cards… they quickly replied yes… but failed to mention they add a pretty hefty additional charge if you pay with credit card… so this was an unwelcome surprise after a disappointing haircut. obviously a lot of room for improvement in the barber shop scene in Hawaii… hmmm.

Cities like Beijing in China are wonderful to visit for food and shopping(heck, more than half of our products are made in China anyway), and for«China insiders,» a great place to get services(massages, mani-pedis, facials, haircuts) at a fraction of the price. Varsity Barber is a piece of China in Honolulu. If you are looking for a straight-forward reliable haircut or styling(or perm job, coloring) provided by one of three dead-pan(they’ll smile but not much, talk but not much) people from southern China, in a large airy room(linoleum floor, white walls, mirrors) in a convenient location(University area, next to Bubbies Ice Cream) at very reasonable prices($ 14 plus tax for a women’s cut, $ 13 for men’s), then this is the place for you. The couple and their friend who run this place work 10 hours a day(9 am-7 pm), 7 days a week. I’ve had much more expensive salon haircuts: I once paid almost $ 200 to a well-known stylist, and regularly prices in the $ 60 – 100 range. The experience is different: The more you pay, the harder you’ll have to work to get an appointment, perhaps booking well in advance. You’ll be washed, maybe massaged, likely chatted up, and hear gossip about famous clients, and enjoy the ambience. But I’ve never felt that the cut itself made much difference to my looks or my life, and it all grows out anyway. So now I’ve gravitated to Varsity Barbers on a regular basis. Parking is convenient. I walk in whenever I need a haircut and have about 20 minutes to a half hour to spare in my schedule. Eighty percent of the time I don’t have to wait. I don’t even get the wash and blow-dry: just the cut, and it’s always been just fine. My stylish professional daughter has started coming here, and has been happy with the results. I’ve seen older women getting perms, young studs getting buzz cuts, and lots of people in between. So: If you are brave, curious, or just like value for your money, give this place a try!

I asked for a two fade here, which started fine but the older gentlemen gave me a haircut that made it look like adam lambert with a whole bunch of patterns in my hair. Then when I confronted him about it he told me the places where he buzzed close to my scalp was were I was balding, which is certainly not the case.

Everything else around the area is $ 16 or more. This place is $ 13. Haircut looks the same to me whether it’s $ 16 or $ 13, so i tipped him the $ 3 difference, made his day. And i’m happy with my haircut.

I’ve been to over a dozen plus haircut joints and had to fired them all. There’s not much to it, use scissors, comb and a mirror and start cutting. Oh no, they had to yap my ears off, or stop altogether and take a cancer stick break. A close friend of mine heard my despair and asked me to give Varsity Barber a try. I walked in and it’s nothing fancy and the shop was ran by a quiet friendly Chinese couple and another relative. I hop on the seat, she asked how I wanted it cut and in about 12 minutes I was done! That’s how it should be. The haircut is only $ 12, I made sure to give a $ 20.
