Waikiki Beachside Hostel

(Stay clear) Can’t find a better way to explain this place other than its a disaster (stay clear). There a cheaper and much cleaner hostels close by

Pro: Each dorm room has its own bathroom.
Con: The dorm rooms (rooms, bathrooms, etc.) and the hostel itself isn’t all that clean.
Pro: Breakfast is included.
Con: Breakfast only includes coffee, bread, peanut butter, and jelly.
Con: Beds aren’t assigned. First come first serve. If you are on the top bunk, good luck finding an outlet to charge up on.
Con: No AC and no fan in room.
Tip: Make sure your windows are open.
Pro: Free Wifi.
Con: Checking in took forever. They require a deposit for parking and room key.
Pro: Onsite parking.
Con: Parking onsite is not included in room fee and is not free.
Overall: I have experienced much better.

Amazing experience for the money and semi private room for 6 nights. I can’t speak for the dorm style rooms but we had AC and great location! Hostels are hostels Free snorkel equipment and Davis allowed us to check out at 7pm for no charge our day of departure. So friendly!

I stayed in the newly renovated 4 female dorm. Was so spacious. Worth the money. Breakfast is peanut butter and jam toast. Don’t expect too much as it is a hostel! The place was very clean and so we’re the bathrooms.

Don’t stay there! No soap and towels. Bad customer service. You will be charged even for leaving your scooter overnight!

This place is disgusting never stay here. Its dirty, no a/​c. Cant wait to get out of here in the morning.

Great place to stay for a night: obviously, it’s Waikiki so no one stays in the whole day. They serve complimentary breakfast: toasts with peanut butter and jam and coffee. Rooms are clean and pretty spacious. People at the front desk are extremely friendly!!! Close to the beach, bus, everything!!!

Not the best, but not the worst!
Pros: Great staff, friendly, willing to help. If you’re here for a conference like I was, there’s irons available. And I suppose this is luck of the draw, but I had great roommates, no shady types. Everyone left their laptops out, nothing gets stolen! The location is great too! A bit of a walk from downtown but right in front of the beach. AND there’s a great restaurant, cheap, garlic shrimp were great!
Cons: 8 person dorm is literally living on top of each other. Cleaning in MINIMAL. Wifi is so awful. And the noise at night, the NOISE. This is a place where rowdy young people stay and it gets so loud. Beds are really uncomfortable. And the general hygiene of the place isn’t wonderful.
Overall, would I stay here again: Yes, if I were coming with my family/​kids I would stay in a 4-​person. If I had enough money to afford the 100/​night I’d make it a priority.

I was a little nervous/​unsure what to expect when I booked 4 nights in a 4bed female dorm but at ONLY $ 33/​night IN WAIKIKI and to have a single bed/​not having to sleep in a bunk bed I thought it was worth a try. As a single girl, I felt comfortable & safe. The 3 other girls in my dorm (from Japan, Korea & Australia) were friendly & considerate roommates. I am so glad I stayed here, I had no problems/​a great stay & it was SO much better than I had anticipated!!! :)
LOCATION — a block from beach, closer to the diamond head end of Waikiki (near the zoo) with easy access to transit and lots of shops & restaurants nearby.
WRISTBAND ACCESS — so much better than keycards!
STAFF — both the front desk & housekeeping were friendly & helpful.
MISC:
Much cleaner & quieter than expected… I’d heard the lemon road hostels were dirty & loud but this hostel is a notable & refreshing exception.
My dorm didn’t have AC but I’m not a huge fan if AC anyways… it did have a great ceiling fan & another plug in fan that kept the air circulating our dorm was cool & comfortable.
FREE WiFi you can even access in dorm!
12pm check– out, but if you need luggage storage its $ 5/​day.
Large TV & tables/​seating in common area where they serve free pb&j each morning from 9−10am.
Inexpensive café, scooter/​bike rental outside hostel.
Vending machines & Coin Laundry on site.
IN SUMMATION: if you are expecting a 4* resort there have lots of them in Hawaii, upwards of $ 250/​night + resort fees & taxes… but for less than the price of that single night — you can stay here for a week. So if you are planning to spend more time outside your room anyways and don’t mind a basic accommodations/​amenities, then save some $$$ &/​or stay here longer. If you welcome the opportunity to meet/​share your space with travelers from all over the world then I encourage you try Waikiki Beachside Hostel.

I would quite honestly rather sleep on the beach. I have stayed at over 10 hostels so far in life and this does not even compare to what I thought had been the worst. Picture a motel in NYC in the 1970s. You have to make your own bed which I don’t have a problem with, expect for the fact that I had to see the pillow I was going to sleep on. Yellow sweat and fluid Stains from the 1000s of people that had used it before it freaked me out, I ended up having to put a shirt on top of the pillow case just to make using it a viable option. If you don’t care about disease, getting sick, or bedbugs and just wanna socialize this would be the place for you. Def not for me tho. I would rather not go on vacation than stay here and it was not even cheap. Staying here one night and hoping I can actually fall asleep in such a filthy room wow. Does not do this beautiful island justice.

I stayed here for one week in a 4-​bed dorm. The room was better than I expected due to there being no bunk beds as only single beds were present. Seeing a bathroom in the room was a nice touch and definitely better than other hostels that I’ve stayed at. I heard that the larger dorm rooms have a kitchen in the room which would have been nice.
The communal lounge downstairs was a great way to meet some people! There is a lot of open space and a fine opportunity to have some drinks with new acquaintances. They also offer wireless internet mostly in the lounge which I found to be pretty good although it’s limited to a certain range. Sometimes it does get quite loud at night but they try to enforce a curfew at 10:30 PM. Being a hostel it doesn’t always work out — though it’s great to see that they try to make an effort.
Location is one of the biggest upsides to staying here. The ABC Store is right next door which is very convenient to buy food and drinks. Also the location is quite good for Waikiki with it being walking distances to the beach and many restaurants/​shops.

Look, it’s easily the cheapest place you can stay in the area and as long as you embrace that it’s fine. However the place isn’t clean and it seems as if nobody is putting any effort into making it any better. I’m glad we only stayed here one night, any more and I would have been looking for a new place to stay.

Only spent one night here for a layover /​seeing some friends, but was not sad about leaving after one night either.
I know it is a hostel and yes I’m probably totally spoild from my hostel trip to Costa Rica but anyway…

I was scheduled to stay here for 8 nights during my Waikiki Beach vacation. I knew what I was getting into since it is a hostel. The price is cheap and it’s one of you get what you pay for spots. There was a lot of in and out of different people during the actual 7 nights that I wound up staying there for. One day you would see one person and they would be gone the next. It seemed like it was more of a resting place for everyone.
The community area downstairs was a lot of fun and I met a lot of great new friends. The first Friday that I was there the noise down there was a bit intolerable since it went late. After that it seemed to have a 10pm cutoff time by the front desk which is a good idea. If you want a quieter stay then grab a bunk in the back half of the room. You’d be surprised how much difference this makes with the noise.
The housekeeping seemed to be pretty non existent. This was the only thing that I really missed about having a traditional hotel. It really made me value a clean room. I stayed at a different place on the last night and it felt so much better to be in a regular hotel room. Hostel life isn’t for everyone but this place is worth the price.

I rescheduled my flight to a day early to Hawaii to have an extra day vacation. My check-​in for the Trump in Waikiki isn’t until the next day, so I had to find a place to spend one night somewhere. I was suggested to stay here from the airport information center and I went with it.
The rates are $ 33-​something to share with 8 ppl or extra $ 4 to share only with 4 ppl. I had the 4 ppl semi-​private room for one night. You will be asked to put down a $ 20 deposit fee (but you will get it back once you check-​out). I received a key bracelet that you scan on the door lock to your room, which was pretty cool. It’s also waterproof! You will be handed out with sheets to cover up your bed and pillow.
Okay — straight to the point, when I got in… I wasn’t impressed with the room because it seems grimy and dirty, but I didn’t’ care because it was only $ 30 for one night until I get to relocated into a 5-​star luxury hotel the next day. I felt like a prison here sometimes. The bathroom is really nasty and unsanitary. During the middle of putting in bed sheets, two workers came into my room to clean the mess and throw garbage. Uh, is there a courtesy? I would prefer to have the room READY & CLEAN before I receive the key, not have the check-​in ready and then I come into my room then have Cinderellas barge in my room in the middle of my unpacking. It was just weird but I didn’t care at all. At least I didn’t have to sleep at a beach with my luggage, right?
During my whole night here, I was relieved that I didn’t share the room with anyone, only me! I was afraid that if I share with people I don’t know might have steal my stuff. Oh well, at least nothing was taken away from me.
Despite how dirty the hostel room is, this place is great if you need a cheap stay. It almost feels like going to a church camp when I was in high school or something, lol.
Breaktfast (slice of bread and strawberry jam/​butter) and coffee are provided at 9AM in the morning.
Lastly, this hostel is okay. I like the fact that it’s only a block away to Waikiki Beach and many shops around.

For a hostel in Waikiki, it can sure do a lot better. It’s not even that cheap, $ 33 per person for a twin size bed in a room that feels like a jail cell. Yes there is bathroom and a fridge and sink, but the environment is dingy, dark, dirty looking. At least the sheets are brand new ish, or looks that way.
The semi privates are only $ 4 more and you get to stay in a king size (put together by two beds) bed with a balcony and behind closed door. However you can still hear everything that goes on outside where the other two people are staying.
For the price It’s not worth it, there are other hostels that give you better private rooms than this place

We stayed at the Waikiki Beachside Hostel in Jan of 2013 and booked a semi private room which is shared with two other people. (four people total) The semi private room sleeps two, and outside of that room sleeps another two people.
What I like about the Waikiki Beachside Hostel is that it is about a block from the beach so you could easily walk there. In addition to that, it’s right at the end of Kalakaua Avenue which is probably the main strip of street that everyone in Waikiki visits and walks on. There are tons of things on that street from Honolulu Cookie Company to a bunch of other stores. Everyone’s out on that street. Even the Duke Kahanamoku Statue and the Waikiki Aquarium is near this hostel! Also, right near this hostel is another good bar/​breakfast place with a great view (Lulu’s Waikiki).
The first day we got to the hostel we told them we had a car so they gave us the key to open the gate to get into the parking spaces. This hostel only has about four or five parking spaces so I was always worried every night when we came home about getting a parking space since it is a first come first serve availability. Lucky for us, it was never a problem. There is a $ 25 deposit you leave for getting the gate key but you get it back when you check out and is $ 7 a day to park.
When we checked in, they gave us some sheets and gave us bracelets keys that scanned us into our rooms. The bracelet keys were neat! Anyway we got to our room and had to put the sheets in our bed ourselves which wasn’t a problem. The room was nice and it was a bonus that the flat screen TV was in our room. That and it also had AC! The room is also lockable so you don’t have to worry about anything being stolen.
The bathroom was shared with two other people who were in the room with us. There were always different people in the room so people only stayed there for a few days before they checked out and traveled to another city. The bathrooms were not bad except for the broken blinds on the windows so you were worried about people seeing you naked in the bathroom depending on where you stood. O. O If you’re standing directly under the shower you should be fine and they won’t be able to see you.
I liked my stay at the Waikiki Beachside Hostel. It was nice that there was a laundry machine here to wash our clothes since we were there for a week. And, we had no problems staying here. No bed bugs either. I would recommend this place to friends and would stay here again if I’m ever in Waikiki.

Simple, affordable, clean and convenient. Stayed 4 days in a semi-​private room. Loved our roommates, meet people from all over the world. The kitchen was well equiped with full size fridge, range w/​oven and microwave. Our semi-​private room had an additional locking door, private balcony, large dresser and flat panel TV. The bathroom had a full-​size shower and excellent water pressure.
Located a block from the beach and close to bus line and shopping.
Loved the cheap food in the restaurant out front, especially the breakfasts.
We will be back soon!

1) 1 block from the beach. Seriously the Banana Bungalow hostel in Maui is awesome but. this one is 1 block from the beach

I spent one night at this hostel and promptly left the next morning. I knew what I was getting into because of these Unilocal reviews (dirty, bugs in cabinets, LOUD even with earplugs in, hot as hell in the rooms), but I overestimated my desire, as a solo traveler, to meet new people. I think this place is great for the under 25 crowd (there were a few free-​spirited older folks, 60+), but after a night of little sleep, I hightailed it to a high-​rise condo a few blocks away. OMG air conditioning and the sound of my inner monologue!
I can’t give the place a terrible review. The lady I checked out with apologized profusely (even though I told her it wasn’t their fault, I’m just turning into an old lady and couldn’t handle it). I was refunded for the rest of my trip (8 nights) and went on my merry way.
