Yelper Party: Let’s Get Physical @ Island Club & Spa

Whatchu know ’bout partying in a health club?!
Big thanks, as always, to the fantastic Emi and her Unilocal staff. The venue was swanky, the event was well organized, and everyone I saw was having a good time!
Free valet service made my +1, Ilora M., and I feel like true VIPs. After checking in we were Jazzercising our way around checking out all the treats lined up for us partygoers; Jamba Juice smoothies, cocktails with the ubiquitous Kai Vodka, mini-​spa treatments and sample packages galore, and tours of the facilities by Island Club & Spa peeps made for one heck of a time.
My personal favorite of the night was the singer who did some amazing impersonations at the end of the night!
It was great to see all the Yeeps, familiar and new-​found, dressed up (waaaaay up in some short-​shorts cases: P) for this event! Can’t wait for the next party, and definitely check out a Unilocal Kicks Butt event if you haven’t already!

Let’s get physical… physical. This was a neon filled party and for some reason all I can think of is Gary’s gold shorts and the shake weight!
There was a scavenger Instagram contest I wish I participated in but was too busy saying hi to fellow Unilocalers I haven’t seen in awhile.
There was wine, Kai vodka and Jamba Juice to quench your thirst. And Da Spot with salad and Chun Wah Kam manapua to munch on.
The lines were long for a massage but I did get my hand dipped in some pink ooze that made my skin oh so soft… Gary’s skin is still softer than mine.
The slow motion video was fun and has given us tons of laughs. There is no way laughs are not involved if the shake weight is.
Island Club is the Four Seasons of fitness clubs let me tell you. The facilities are beautiful and posh. It was perfect for a workout after party.
It was nice to see all my fellow Unilocalers out and about in neon and spandex.

REASON FOR GOING:
Who doesn’t love a party? I was lucky enough to have made the list and joined a bunch of Unilocal Elites enjoying food, fashion, and fun. All things I love and Unilocal did it with my fav theme — 80s! It was a neon fashion show and Island Club and spa was the runway. We toured the gym from the weight room to the cardio room. Then we had a chance to rest and relax in the women’s locker room. It was so relaxing I did not want to leave. We then ventured around to find beverages hosted by Jamba Juice Hawaii were delicious — I never tried the new fruit and veggie line. It was a little icy but was the perfect cool down after running around trying out all the equipment. My favorite activity for the night was the shoulder massage — I wish I could get another one right now!
SERVICE:
The service at Island Club and Spa is awesome. The staff there all around was friendly and helpful. When you walk in, they greet you with a warm smile — almost as warm as their sauna! The General Manager Tony took time to talk about the spa mentioning how it is like your «own private fitness center». I could see that as there are many amenities and the space may seem small but there is enough room for everyone to do their own thing. Brooke and I enjoyed the cardio room, racing on the fancy treadmills. The treadmills have their own mini fans with a digital interface. I felt like I was driving a car!
OVERALL
This place is like the Neiman Marcus of gyms! With all the amenities — it is like your home away from home — but better!

*This is my first Unilocal review of 2014. I am a little behind the ball but inspired to write more!

My first interstate Unilocal event and it did not disappoint! It kicked butt ;)
We were greeted by the wonderful Emi YCM of Honolulu~
The first stop was a blended smoothie, they were a little frozen, but good thing we stayed awhile because it allowed it to thaw.
Then we, my guest and I, each got a humongous Chau Su Bun… those things kept coming and they were VERY satisfying~ quickly after there was a delicious red wine. Best thing about these, taste, service with a smile and NO WAIT~
We went into this multi-​room funhouse gym and got our picture taken in slow motion with silly masks and props.
We got to tour the lockeroom and I even got a picture in the steamroom — steam on!
In the cardio room we had skin samples, more fresh food — 5 salads to choose from — healthy and delish~~~ as well as some GREAT island flavored alcohol.
I left with a cute Unilocal water bottle and an impression of Unilocal Hawaii hospitality that was nothing short of happy!

Having LOVED participating in all of the Unilocal Kicks Butt events this month, the culminating party did not let me down! Island Club and Spa was a beautiful venue and all the 80’s Unilocalers made the environment even more rad!
I loved that the theme was 80’s workout clothes for a few reasons:
1. Jayson and Gary in short shorts
2. I could wear spandex and no one would judge me
3. NEON
4. Scrunchies and side ponytails
Everyone looked SMASHING… and even the Unilocalers who had just worked out rocked that look.
The sampling of goodies was awesome– ranging from Jamba Juice’s apple and greens smoothie (perfect after my workout!) to Kai vodka cocktails (perfect after my workout! haha). Da Spot was there with some yummy salads and an array of awesome dressing toppings. They also had some great, thick smoothies! I definitely want to go back there to try them out!
The slo mo booth was super funny and COMPLETELY unattractive lol… the props just completed the ensemble and they even had a SHAKE WEIGHT! Whoa! Talk about prepared!
Island Club and Spa was so generous and gave out lots of prizes to lucky Unilocalers. The spa staff was also on hand providing weird wax hand things that made your skin feel as smooth as a baby’s bottom! They also had people there giving massages and showing people all the perks of being a club member. There were some awesome deals for joining during the Unilocal event too!

Unilocal Kicks Butt!
It was an awesome party! I loved the neon brights (and I even saw a pair of manly gold short shorts!), and Unilocalers were friendly as always! I brought a friend along (new Unilocaler, never been to a Unilocal party) and she LOVED IT. She had a blast! So thanks so much, Unilocal community, for showing my friend a great time and doling out the love! :)
Island Club and Spa was a great venue, and you seriously felt like VIP when you walked into 1177. Tall glass building, clean and sleek, and two security details at the door, who held the door open and waved you in!
Eats:
Kai Vodka – 2 cocktails, one with coconut, one with ginger
Chun Wah Kam Noodle Factory — steamed char siu manapua
Da Spot — 2 different kinds of smoothies and salads
Jamba Juice — green smoothie
Cake and ice cream!
Spa Treatments:
massage
Yonka — paraffin wax treatment! my hands were SO well moisturized afterwards, and the wax smelled so good!
Neuma — hair styling! They are ecofriendly, and try to use all natural, organic ingredients as much as they can («as long as the product still works») their infrared flatirons worked serious magic, and their hairspray had great hold without the crunch.
4 second slow-​mo cam! –the photobooth was too much fun. They had dolla dolla bills to make it rain, super hero masks, ribbon wands, boxing gloves, all kinds of great props, and a 4 second video that you can then select a frame and get prints for each of you and your friends!
And the fitness center itself is SO CLEAN AND RELAXING. We took a tour downstairs, and OMG the machines are SO NEW and SO CLEAN, the locker rooms are FLAWLESS, come stocked with all the amenities, and they even have massage rooms, facials, and a SPA AND SAUNA AND HOT TUB that you can use whenever you want! They also had lemon water (ohsoclassy) all around the facility and towels for your personal use. It was amazing.
They even gave us Unilocalers a discount on their registration, which was great. I already have a membership at another gym, but now I’m gonna be daydreaming of that sauna…

Let’s be real-​do I enjoy getting physical? In real life-​heck no: p In Unilocaly fashion? Absolutely!
Lol there is no shame to my dress– the-​part-​game. Those Unilocal socks were not only fashionable but super comfy :) I loved seeing the gambit of Jane Fonda outfits to Gary’s gold statement! And then there were also the folks who looked like they were ready to pump some serious iron ;)
We got pampered with mini massages, paraffin waxes (on our hands), and there was also a hair station. Da Spot served healthy smoothies and salads while Kai vodka had two concoctions to choose from. Jamba Juice handed out kale smoothies in kiddie cups (I’ll be bringing my cup into work since it has a handy lid) and the bar offered wine options. Somewhere along the way someone brought some manapuas and cake/​ice cream *thank you*
The band that played was awesome! I’d totally pay cover to see them again. They did this impressive rendition of «We are the world…» The venue is normally a gorgeous gym/​spa. Luxurious is the word that comes to mind ;)
Slo Mo Booth Hawaii treated us to some fun videos. Who knew 4 seconds could wind up being so entertaining. But like Mike said, if you make it rain-​you have to clean it up: p. We didn’t make it rain, but I did happily prance around like a complete doofus ;)
Like all Unilocal events-​it was nice to just have a fun forum to see friends and to meet new people. While standing in line-​I met John and his wife Dons A. (please pardon me if I mixed up your names)…who happened to be the winners of the cookie swap.
Where else could you have a convo like this?
Me: Gemma, this is Dons-​she is the one who made the cookies which won the cookie swap.
Dons: I won, but mine weren’t the pretty cookies.
Me: Actually, Gemma was the one who made the pretty cookies…*conversation carries on*
Pure awesomeness!

Super fun way to end a month long fitness extravaganza! Hosting this party at Island Club & Spa made me feel pampered just stepping into the room.
The many great vendors made the party even better~
–Jamba Juice: Apple and Greens smoothies were frozen but still tasty
–Da Spot: They had many different salad dressings to try along with smoothie samples. My favorite was the avocado dressing.
–Kai Vodka: There were some exotic tasting mixed drinks here
–Mini spa treatments: There were massages, beauty makeovers, and a softening wax treatment for your hands.
–Slowmo booth: Everyone looked like they had tons of fun matrixing it up in this photo booth!
I also had a lot of fun completing the photo scavenger hunt with my friends!

Great event at the nicest workout facility I’ve been to. I wish I could afford to be a member here, but I think I have to stick to my Y membership for now. Doesn’t mean I can’t dream (and recommend to people I know who can front the monthly fee)!
I sheepishly walked past the Unilocalers mid-​fitness at the YKB event prior. They looked like they were getting worked with those burpees… guilt trip. Then my eyes were greeted by all the cool 80s activewear! Plenty of sweatbands, leotards, neon, and spandex to make Oliva Newton John proud (see youtube video re: the namesake of this event).
The scavenger hunt was a great way to keep us occupied but then… oh wait look at this massage line! Salad! Vodka! Waxy hands?!? Yeah. Pretty distracted so I couldn’t finish the list, but I did manage to check off a few items. The slow mo booth was really fun but I didn’t get our picture/​video montage emailed to me yet even though I typed in my email! It would be great to review it– hilarious getting sprayed with silly string and feathers.
Kai vodka was offering some new flavors and while I like their original lychee flavor best, these new flavors made for a «fun» time. ;) Da spot salad and smoothies, chun wah kam manapua, Jamba’s frozen apple n greens smoothies rounded out the food offerings. Got a wonderful 2 minute massage that went by wayyyy too fast and also experienced a paraffin wax treatment that is apparently good for your hands! So soft (and oily)! It’s definitely something to walk around with a bag tied around your waxy hand for a few minutes.
I love my new Unilocal water bottle!!! It’s adorable. Probably my favorite piece of Unilocal schwag to date! :)
GREAT EVENT, Emi & the fabulous Unilocal crew! Congrats to the winners of the prizes (temporary membership and spa treatments)!! Supah jelly.

I could retype what I already said in caps and that still wouldn’t do this event justice. Although I wanted to trip myself to see if I could get out of the last two classes I’m glad I hung in there, or down there on the yoga mat.
The food and drinks were perfectly sized to avoid feeling too much guilt I mean vodka is low cal right?!

YAY! Another super awesome Unilocal event!!!
Thank you to Emi and Unilocal team! I had a blast with my Unilocaly friends and even though we stood in the massage line for a good hour (yes, we’d get in and out of line more than a few times to get yummy salad from Da Spot table and drinkies from the Kai Vodka table), it was definitely a fun time.
I have been to this apartment building quite a few times, but I always just assumed that the nice gym (you can see the treadmills from Queen street) was for residents, I didn’t realize it is a club (haha, anyone from Singapore chuckle a little when you think of «island club»…) I bet the fees are much less at this Island Club. But for a poor college student, I don’t think I could support myself if I joined this one.
This was definitely a very different event. Some of the «work out» attire was interesting and there was a variety of things to do and eat. Thank you again, Unilocal,Island Club, Jamba Juice, Kai Vodka, Da Spot and Slo-​Mo Hawaii! :)

What a fun party to get together and celebrate a month of Unilocalers kicking butt!
I was already here after the workout at Island Club & Spa, but I have no idea so many more people would be showing up for the party. Those extras definitely had time to perfect their costumes. Going through the vendors:
Jamba Juice was there offering their apples & greens smoothies. The smoothie was still frozen when I received mine, but I can see how this is incredibly healthy.
The slow mo booth would take a short 5 second video of you before slowing it down to humorous speeds. You then choose a frame from the video for them to print out in a picture. Although I’m apparently now prop savvy, this was such a great photo. It gives you the time to pick out that perfect action shot.
In the group room we were offered bites from da spot, libations from kai vodka and spa services from the club.
Da spot’s salad and smoothies are clearly handmade without processed foods which I love. They are that rare health food truck in the crowd of fried crap.
Kai vodka, as always, such a great mix of cocktails. I LOVE ginger drinks, so I was appeased.
The main draw is usually the spa treatments because of their long wait time. I think the staff might not have been prepared for such a crowd since they seemed a little impatient with Unilocalers, but I give them kudos for getting through the crowd that evening!
Thank you Island Club and Spa for opening your doors to us common folk and being so generous. You will see me soon with my personal training session!

What an evening! After our one hour workout we were treated with an amazing after workout party!
Of course, what’s Unilocal without fun! We were given a Photo Scavenger Hunt and was instructed to post them on Unilocal and Instagram. Which is probably the reason, you’ll see a lot of similar poses on this event’s photo album.

Once we were done, we put our name in a bag for the prize drawings. Unfortunately, I didn’t win but it ain’t nuttin but a G thang! Haha. This facility was gorgeous, the music was perfect, the Manapua, salad, smoothies, cocktails were all satisfying. Everyone had a grand time and it was an honor to be a part of tonight’s event.

What better way to end a great month of workouts than with an after party at Island Club & Spa!!!
We refueled and rehydrated with Da Spot yummy salads and smoothies, Kai vodka cocktails, Jamba Juice smoothies, manapua and wine. A local band played live Hawaiian music. Mini spa treatments were offered and complimentary beauty samples. Slow motion video and photos. There even was a birthday celebrated! Happy birthday, Steve!

Yet another great Unilocal event!
Ran a little late due to the Unilocal kick butts event ending late, but none the less easy check in. Once checked in we got our free schwag and started on our scavenger hunt immediately! All of the items were really fun and easy to do, definitely made new friends at this event!
Everything ran smoothly and and there were many things to do! Shout outs to Island Club and Spa, Jamba Juice, Da Spot, Kai, and all the vendors and helpers! The two hour event went by sooooo fast!
Looking forward to more events :)

Wow! Such a great place at Island Club and Spa and such a awesome job Emi and her crew did although we had our workout during the day carrying bricks before coming here and which we rode our bikes down I was almost ready to check out the machines except we got side tracked in catching up with people I haven’t seen in a while and those that I never had a chance to meet IRL until then what a great event!
I loved the Kai Ginger and Guava drinks and the Coconut one was good too I had a cup of the red wine which was good too although I had to restrain myself from getting the Jamba Juice I know it would have been awesome! I sampled the salad that the spot had which was great too, see how healthy I was eating? Haha then I broke down and had to get a Manapua! But at least I stayed away from all the sweet stuff didn’t I have such great control? Haha. We were checking out the Slo mo booth which looked like a lot of fun, and the line for the massages seemed to be a big hit because it was pretty long! At first I was wondering what was with all these people with their hands in baggies and then I found out it was a hand waxing thing whoa interesting!
All in all it was a great event and I got to talk for a good bit with one of their sales people about the club and got a complementary week pass!
Awesome Job Emi and Gang you all are the Best!!!

«Like a Virgin» Island Spa was christened with a bunch of 80’s dressed Unilocalers.
«girls just wanna have fun» and we certainly did. HAY GIRL HAY. Nothing like getting together with a bunch of the old timers, knocking back a few and taking epic photos.
«every breath you take» you could smell the freshness of this brand new gym and spa.
I know the Unilocal team was «under pressure» as the workout before hand delayed things a little bit, but they handled it well!

Unilocaly Schwag when checking in to vendors such as Kai Vodka, Jamba Juice, Da Spot. The wine and mixed Vodka drinks were flowing along with live music. Massage chairs, make up and hand waxing… hand waxing? I tried it out and it leaves your hand smooooooth! Ah yeah Ok…
I loved that mostly everyone was dressed up in their 80’s workout theme outfits and boy was I getting flashbacks! lol! All you Yeeps looked fantastic!
The photo scavenger hunt was so much fun with Elite Jacob N. as we went hunting and taking the pictures to complete the challenging quest. Once completed you earned a entry to with awesome prizes, which I didn’t win, like a One Month FREE membership to Island Club & Spa, Personal Training and a 55 minute massage for the Grand Prize! Congratulation Victoria! I was really happy for all the winners!

What a fun time!
After working up a sweat, we met up with our plus ones in the lobby and excitedly informed them there was a scavenger hunt and well whether they liked it or not, we were playing as a team and we were in it to win it.
Our tasks were:

While enjoying ourselves, we ran up to complete strangers and asked for hugs… and to have our photos taken to complete our tasks and by the end of the night, my plus one had one the one week guest passes to Island Club and Spa, and my friend who I came with had done the same. So folks, hard work pays off!
While working so hard at our scavenger hunt, we had the chance to have so much fun in the photo booth and let me tell you I look absolutely RIDICULOUS is slow motion! Enjoy a tasty treat from Jamba Juice, the most delicious things from Da Spot (but I was already a huge fan of Da Spot), try some new tasty vodka from Kai vodka, enjoy a parafin hand treatment, and best of all explore the gorgeous facilities of Island Club and Spa. Oh and there were even manapuas!
The facilities at this place are unlike anything I’ve seen in a long time. State of the art machines, wonderful locker room with a sauna and a hot tub and fully equipped showers. I loved it here so much that I joined last night. The staff on hand were all super welcoming, helpful and I can’t wait to make coming here a part of my daily schedule.
The Unilocal crew as always made the night even more fun checking in with us through out the night to make sure we were having fun and just saying hi, etc. It was great to meet some new people (even if my husband thinks it was weird we made some friends in the locker room) and as always thank you Emi and crew for the hard work and great event.

I am an avid fan of the Unilocal Kicks Butt series so when I saw a fitness themed party to end this round of fun physical events (I took part in Fit for A Goddess and early morning yoga in Kahala!) I was all in! The event was super fun! Saw so many familiar faces with some non-​yelp related! I also met a ton of new people as well, which is one of my favorite things to do. New friends = more fun!
I got there a little late with my honey bunny Devin R. (first Unilocal event btw! Woo-​hoo!) thanks to work, but still just in time for tons of fun! Slo-​mo booth was a riot! I can’t wait to get the videos emailed to me! Then tried out a ginger/​guava drink with lemongrass Kai vodka! I think that was Devin’s favorite part! Then I waited in line forrrreeevvver so I could try to GET a massage, which would’ve been a nice change of pace from always giving them! Ended up taking too long for my antsy pants, but I did get to catch up with my girl Missy, so all good there. Then I explored downstairs and fell in love with the locker rooms! So clean! So comfy! It was perfect! The attendant Lynette was the sweetest and took a couple of pics for me in the steam and by the sauna!
Noteworthy: When I came out of the locker rooms, Dev and I saw some people crowded around a machine called THE POWER PLATE. Looked harmless but whenever anyone got on it, they usually shrieked when it started and reactions were being filmed. Curiosity got me– I hopped on and pushed the button for 30 seconds. OH MY LORD! It feels like your whole inside is being blended and your brain is going to ooze out of your ear! 5 seconds was enough for me but Devin totally killed the whole 30 seconds, with a very humorous «protective» pose. XD
I had such a good time, and I was very impressed with the gym. Talked to the front desk about the amenities and use of their yoga/​pilates studio to practice my dance numbers when there weren’t classes, and they had me sold– I am now a brand-​spanking new member of Island Club & Spa. Yowza! Thanks for a great event and for my new home away from home! LETS GET IT ON!
