Bed Bath & Beyond

Selected a sealed & undamaged boxed food dehydrator off the shelf where all the dehydrators are for sale. Bought fruit at Trader Joes, went home & started prep then opened the box. The unit was used with food stuck to it! Initially thought that the seasoning packet had come open, so started to rinse one tray and noted food stuck to multiple trays. Then noted the inside bottom of the box had food/​grease marks. The paperwork was also crinkled and pages were stuck together from having been wet.
I really can’t think of any way for that to happen other than an employee using it and putting it back (unlikely) or the store manager allowing it to be returned to the shelf and sold as new. I’m not sure how you’d reconcile the stock unless you knew and approved of it being returned, although since stock can always be off one or two, I’ll give the manager the benefit of the doubt and allow that it could have been an employee too lazy to process the return correctly. Either way, completely disgusting. It’s not as if this is a discount store & so far as I know they don’t even sell refurbished.

After having a poor experience at another twin cities location, I decided to give this BB&B a shot to determine if it’s the entire company or just certain locations that left a lot to be desired. This location has a great selection of items in all departments. I have shopped here twice now, and overall I have no complaints. Both times I’ve visited this particular store, I opted for them over Target for the items I was in the market for just because I had a coupon. Turns out they had what I was looking for and BEYOND! :P I even found the softest premium pet bed for my dog, and she totally loves it! It was so much cuter than most other dog beds in its price range – matches our living room rug (also from BB&B) perfectly! Ok so enough about dog beds… they do have a pretty nice pet department, a great offering of candles/​home fragrance, and a plethora of bed, bath, kitchen and dining items. Today we were in search of a decorative bathroom garbage can that looked nice but didn’t cost a fortune. Although some of the ones we liked were as much as $ 40, we found one that will be perfect for $ 9.99. Since we didn’t spend so much on the garbage can, we found a few other items to round out our sale, and we put our coupon to good use! The Minnetonka Bed Bath & Beyond has successfully changed my opinion about the brand. I may not come here for every household need (after all, a girl’s gotta visit Ikea at least a couple times a year), but I will certainly swing in the next time a coupon shows up in my mailbox! :)

January 2012 Edit: Their pet department isn’t as large as it once was, which is a trend I’ve noticed at other locations as well :(On the plus side, I recently returned an item here that I had used a coupon to purchase – I was shocked, and extremely pleased when the cashier made sure to credit the coupon to my new purchase so I didn’t lose my discount just for returning my original item! Score :)
