Maids by Design

I purchased the Living Social deal from them in May. I called immediately to schedule my appointment and it took several tries to get ahold of someone. Finally, the appointment was set and they ended up cancelling the night before but promised to call back right away to reschedule. It took weeks to finally reschedule and mind you, we had to call them! We were put on a «priority» list due to the prior conflict and were promised they would arrive at 9 am this past monday. I waited for over two hours and they NEVER SHOWED or CALLED! And of course you can’t get ahold of anyone. I even called the «manager» who promised nothing would go wrong and still have not heard anything. Luckily, Living Social was great and refunded my money. From the looks of other reviews, it was better off that they never showed up!
WORST COMPANY EVER!!!

I can’t comment on their ability to clean because they never came. My experience is similar to most others’ here. I bought the LivingSocial deal, contacted them several times, and finally on May 19 they scheduled me for a house cleaning on July 19. I called July 18 to confirm (I hadn’t heard from them), and I was told we weren’t on their books, and perhaps I had them confused with a different agency. Right, because I can’t read a phone number that’s on the voucher I purchased. To LivingSocial’s credit, they offered me a refund or «Living Social Bucks.» I chose the refund, but at least they are going to rectify the situation. I encouraged them to review their relationship so hopefully all of our frustration can have some justice.

UPDATE: Here we are on Wednesday… they were supposed to come back out on Monday and … SHOCKER… they never came back.
Too bad there weren’t any reviews before the Living Social deal otherwise Living Social wouldn’t have run them with such negative reviews.

Perhaps one of the worst house cleaning experiences one could have.
Once we went through the debate of what they will not clean and why (they approach the job with serious attitude), they went about their work.
They spent nearly two hours on the top part of my house and other than making it smell nice for a few hours, I’m still trying to figure out what they did for two friggin hours.
They told me that my family room would have to be done on a separate visit.
What? I paid you to clean my house, now you’re doing half the job and walking away???

Stay AWAY from this company. Their treatment was so unprofessional and so bad i’m finally inspired to write my first Unilocal review, I wished I had read it first before booking them. Like many others, I found them thru Living Social (which is a bad version of Groupon, no response from their costumer service at all and apparently do not vett their companies at all). Paid $ 55 bucks, then after multiple calls and voicemails over months! finally got a live person, booked the next available, weeks later, they cancelled it at the last minute b/​c their crew was sick. Had to make another series of calls to get another one. Two sloppy looking people wearing ragged, dragged in the street jeans showed up with dirty rags and nasty looking broom and mop (which I should have booted out the door on first sight but really tried to be kind and work with them) and one sad roll of paper towels between them. They then wanted to charge me $ 30 bucks more because of the size of my house AND were going to skip the finished the basement.
My house was very easy to clean, I had no clutter, all hard wood floors or tiles throughout, didn’t want them to touch the beds. Just needed dusting and mopping and swiffering. These guys had never heard of a swiffer, I had to show them how to use mine and supplied all the cloths. And they tried to tell me they have been cleaning for years. Ha!
They emptied ONE trash can out of the whole house! There is one in every bathroom, bedroom and kitchen and they only managed ONE. They would have left in 1.5hrs if I didn’t point out all the stuff they missed on the floors never mind the stairs. NO mopping of any of the hardwood. Only pushed the dirty wet rag mop around in the bathroom and kitchen. And the 2 rooms I asked them to vacuum, they did such a cursory job that the bin was empty when they left. I vacuumed again and it was full. And like the others experienced, they insisted on a tip at the end, I paid $ 50+ extra bucks on top of the $ 55 Living Social just in case it was their boss that rushes them and I didn’t want to embarass them by checking every room but I should have, because they did a lousy job everywhere. And I left a polite message to the boss that I wanted to talk them, NO CALL returned. I had made it clear from the beginning that I was looking for a company for regular service of my house, they clearly are looking for a fast buck, ripping off people and Living Social was just the venue to do thru.
AND I never got a reciept for the extra they charged me on top of LS, which includes the surprise TAX.

I too purchased through Living Social. They were supposed to come today. They didn’t. This is TWO MONTHS after having purchased the coup, and a no show in the middle of the week (because they can’t do weekends, they are too busy, again, this is two months after the fact). They won’t return calls either. I tried scheduling for three weeks after purchase and no call back. Finally talked to them, set it up, and they don’t show. Living Social needs a slap in the face for offering up this horrible service.

I also used the Living Social special to have them clean, and there is NO way I would ever call them back again. It was impossible to schedule a house cleaning, and from the time that I bought the coupon to the cleaning several months had passed.
When they showed up they did a horrible job. They sprinkled the rugs with some extremely scented «deodorizer», but left white powder along the hardwood floors at all edges of the rugs. They did not dust, they barely touched the bathrooms, and they left after an hour and a half even though I was supposed to get 2 hours of cleaning.
After they left I had to clean up after them just so that I was able to move around in my own house. I have never had such a terrible house cleaning experience and will absolutely never ask them to come back.
Please do not waste your money or time with this company.

I bought a Living Social deal for Maids By Design in July for $ 55. It’s now February and I finally had my house cleaning. That, right there, should say it all. The last review that was written basically sums it all up… took forever to schedule, they return calls days later, they did a decent job on the areas that they cleaned but they didn’t clean certain things in common areas like dusting a bookshelf in my living room. They were here for 2 hours on the nose and left!
While they were here cleaning, I overheard a conversation between another customer and the woman who was cleaning my house. She said that she couldn’t check the schedule because «her system was down.» NO… she couldn’t check the schedule because she was in my house, cleaning it! Then, when she hung up, she had the nerve to say to her coworker that if the customer needed her house cleaned that badly, she should clean it herself. After hearing all of this, it all made sense to me! I too had heard the «system was down» excuse when speaking to one of the team members one day.
I also found, when they told me about the gratuity, that it was a demand and not a suggestion. When they were here today, I couldn’t remember how much he said was supposed to be given, so I gave $ 15 total for tax and gratuity because that was what I felt they deserved (if that).
To me, the point of a Living Social coupon is to get repeat business. I will obviously never use them again.

I purchased a Living Social deal for Maids by Design and was not happy with my service, similar to the review above.
Scheduling: I had to leave 3 messages to make an appointment before someone would return my call, and then the gentleman claimed that he did not receive my messages. He was nice and eager to please, but the fact is that he must have lost my messages. Next, things are busy, i get that, but everything was booked for 3 months which is a bit frustrating, though can’t complain too much when its a LS deal.
Confirmation and Timing: Got a call the night before confirming, and then I was told that the maids would not come FROM 9 – 12, they would arrive between 9 and 12, which was frustrating because i had to leave at 11 and had to find an unsafe place to leave my key, which luckily worked out. I was also told about the tax and required gratuity, which, while i am fine paying, would prefer to pay AFTER i see the service provided.
Cleaning: The areas that were done were great, though despite the ad reading thoroughly cleaning common areas, bathrooms and bedrooms, my and my roommate’s floors were untouched, as were the (dirtier than before) carpeted stairs leading to our living room and each of our bedrooms. What did I pay for???
Post-​cleaning service: When I called to request further cleaning and give my feedback I was told that it was what could fit in a 2-​hour clean and that the crew was probably rushed due to the weather, though they definitely did a good job in the areas they cleaned. Yes, they did do a good job in the areas they cleaned, but i don’t care if they were rushed and it didn’t say anywhere limited to a 2-​hour timeframe. They are now, per my insistence, returning to clean the missed areas, per the «importance they place on customer satisfaction». While the people I spoke with were focused on customer satisfaction, they should focus more on getting the full job done and communicating norms and expectations in the first place.

I decided to give Maids by Design a try when I received an email deal advertising house cleaning at a good rate. The day before the appointment I had to call them to confirm. At the last minute they told me I would need to leave a check for an additional $ 25 for tax and gratuity, which I did on good faith that the job would be a good one.
WRONG, WRONG, WRONG. When I got home after they had «cleaned», my house was barely cleaner than when I left it. They ran a vacuum, swiffered the kitchen and wiped down a few surfaces. THEY DIDN’T EVEN MOP! Mop! Isn’t that the most basic part of cleaning!!!
Then they had the nerve to not call when they had a question about what parts of the house to clean, and then charged me for cleaning the part in question! I was OUTRAGED. They already had more money than they deserved (they DID NOT DESERVE the gratuity I had left or even the basic fee).
