I had been looking for a Love Seat on Craig’s List for weeks with no luck. Either I got no return messages or just couldn’t find anything that looked like a good value. I finally came accross somethat looked perfect and decided to pay a visit figuring they’d have something if not this item. I was greeted in a VERY friendly way by the store manager Ashley who knew exactly what I was talking about and walked me over to it. It was exactly as advertised and made for an easy purchase. Great easy shopping expereience!

I love to furniture shop at all of the antique aka used furniture stores around Houston and Alabama Furniture is a good one. Their prices are kind of all over the place. I am not sure if that is because individual owners are pricing their stuff or if the store is responsible for the pricing. Or it may just be that I am ignorant of what things are supposed to be worth. With that being said I picked up a super unique piece of furniture here the other day that I am completely obsessed with and felt that I got it for a great price. Will go back when looking for other unique pieces.

The best used furniture store I’ve been to in Houston hands down.
Usually, when shopping/​browsing for used furniture I walk away empty handed and annoyed… most places have junky pieces of crap that seriously no one would buy… ever. So, when my husband suggested we check this place out I had low expectations (slightly based on prior bad used furniture shopping experiences and slightly based on low Unilocal reviews for this shop). But whatevs, I’ve been searching for an ottoman now for about 8 months with no luck so what’s the harm checking this joint out?
So, not only did I find an ottoman I *really* like in perfect shape BUT I find a bad ass floor lamp in great shape for $ 25.00. Seriously?! So stoked! In addition, I see several other pieces that are super cool. I don’t consider buying them because they wouldn’t go with my current décor in my current home but super cool pieces nonetheless.
This place is large and sells nice stuff. It’s not like your typical junky Goodwill style furniture… it’s really a treasure trove inside. Prices may be a tench on the high side for somethings but other things (like my lamp!) are a steal. Also, I should note, if one goes into this store with the expectations they’re going to find a couch for $ 300 they really should be shopping elsewhere… $ 800 for a big used couch in great shape is *not* a bad price in my book. You could go to Ikea and spend $ 1000 on flimsy cheaply made couch or you could go to Crate and Barrel and spend $ 2500 on new beautiful couch…$ 800 aint so bad… just sayin. I really dig this place. I’ll be back fo sho.

I guess their showroom floor was full. I spoke on the phone with these folks about consigning a nice set of furniture and was asked to email them some photos. I then followed up to make sure that they received the photos. No one bothered to contact me, so I had to sell the set to a private buyer at a deep discount. Next time I will not waste my time with these folks.

This was my 5^th stop while searching for some bedroom furniture. Having sold all my stuff when I moved here from Florida, I’m shopping on a budget and trying to replace an entire apartment full of… stuff. I agree with the other reviews about many of the price tags I saw, and I was just about to walk out, when I saw what I’d been searching for — a light/​blonde colored dresser and nightstand. Initially I didn’t get too excited, as I expected the price tag to be high. I mean, these items were in perfect condition and the details on them were really ornate. Imagine my pleasure when I saw that the dresser was only $ 200 and the night stand $ 80! I immediately ripped off the tags and purchased them. They charge $ 75 an hour for delivery, but are very prompt and don’t give you a 3-​hour window like a lot of places do. Overall, I am very glad I stopped in to this store, and will probably check it out in the future — but not for a couch, since I could get one brand new for what they charge.

I managed to find a large sofa with a durable cover over it and all the pillows for $ 300 slightly used. Not bad considering the size and cover. On a whim, I decided to purchase it. I paid half then paid the other half two weeks later and just had it delivered today. I do love the sofa, however, the woman I made the purchase from quoted roughly a $ 35 charge for delivery. She said it normally costs about $ 75 but since I lived nearby in Montrose, it shouldn’t be near that price.
The delivery guys were friendly and they got the sofa in no problem aside from maneuvering through the courtyard of the complex. The delivery charge was $ 67 –including tax. When I mentioned it to a friend, she wondered why they charged me tax and why the hell it cost so much more than the quote. Well, one of the delivery guys told me they charge $ 1.25 a minute from the time they leave to the time they get back to the store. If I had known that from the beginning, I would have rounded up a bunch of buff dudes and a truck to get that thing here. Or at the very least hustled to help them get the damn cushions in to shave off a few minutes.
Anyway, because of the misinformation for the delivery fee I downgraded to 2 stars. Although, if I could give 2 ½ stars, I would.
As far as all the other furniture they carry, I recall a very lovely, sexy, curvy sofa (can you tell I wanted it? haha) for about $ 2000 and a beautiful, iridescent chaise for a little more than that. Not all of the furniture is that pricey, but as other reviewers mentioned most of the pieces run between $ 500‑1500. They have a bunch of dining sets and tables, too, but I wasn’t shopping for that at the time so I didn’t pay attention to the prices. Hope this review helps the next customer!

I was on the quest for a good solid storage cabinet (long but under 3 feet tall), but everything I found was either far too pricey (at other second-​hand stores), not durable enough (IKEA — cheap but flimsy pressboard shelves), or requiring too much work (I wanted white — so I wasn’t opposed to painting, but ideally if something was already white, it would save sanding and repainting it!). I found the perfect one at Alabama Furniture, and settled on a mutually agreeable price (about 25% off sticker). Now, it is used, so there are a few scratches on it, but that’s OK with me when I saved signficantly over what a similar new item would have cost (plus, truthfully — in my crazy life with pets/​kids, scratches are inevitable).
I was impressed with their selection and the quality of items they had (most things in very good condition). I wish I’d found the place years ago, and will check here first for future furniture needs. As the nature of the business, the inventory is constantly changing, but this place is at least worth a visit! The item was tightly tucked in within a hard-​to-​reach area, but it just took asking for them to move the piece into an open hallway so I could walk around it, open all the doors, etc. Overall, I have a wonderful quality item that is functional and helped me stick to my budget for that room. I couldn’t have been happier! Also, the guy was really nice and helped load that HEAVY piece into the SUV.

Alabama Furniture was stop number 2 on the «Sofa Search of 2010» this past weekend. I had previously been to Alabama and found a great bistro bar table that now serves as my kitchen dining table for a great price ($ 150 for a wrought iron base/​glass table top).
I decided to check them out again because I remembered that they had multiple styles of sofas on previous visits and I thought the prices were decent. Boy was I wrong! They had a few nice leather sofas, but with a price tag over $ 800 for all of them they did not interest the buyer in me!
They do have some great prices on other pieces, but sofas in general were way overpriced in my opinion for consignment/​second hand. I will probably check this place out again in the future, but for smaller items or vintage pieces.
So, the search continues…

I had a good experience here — and a not so good experience.
After scoring a cute little table for little to nothing, this place really grew on me. There is so much to look at. Room after room — packed full.
So when it came time to replace my futon & buy real furniture… I stopped by. Found one I liked — on sale, no less. Then had it delivered.
I noticed upon delivery something looked «off» but I couldn’t place what it was. Then one night that week a friend was over watching TV — as soon as he sat down next to me we both heard and felt a big «CRACK!»
He isn’t a big guy. But what if he had been? This sofa should be able to handle 3 – 4 people with out a problem. Once the support underneath broke all the way through, it was clear why the sofa looked so «off.»
They apologized & replaced it with out any problems. I bought a new one, so this was still an option. I probably won’t buy from here again. not a big purchase at least. It’s a shame too because Beverley (the lady behind the counter) is incredibly nice and helpful.
I still think it’s a cute shop with nice owners who are willing to work with you, which is why I am giving them an «A-​OK» rank.

This is a great place to stop if you are looking for «new to you» furniture. It’s like a giant Salvation Army furniture section. Decent quality furniture, but mildly overpriced. It is actually a giant space with a large variety of furniture in great shape; the rooms kept popping out of nowhere. It ranges from really well-​made furniture of every decade to a few antiques to two year old Walmart-​esque furniture.
Wandering around this huge store (on a mission for the table I’m convinced I will never find), I noticed something peculiar that reminded of the movie Mannequin. Now I know that there are certain people (actor, rather) that have a phobia of «old furniture» who would most likely need to be carried out and be resuscitated by smelling salts if they set foot in an antique or used furniture store. I wasn’t to that point, but was a little… dejavu’ed.
As I wandered through the many, many large rooms full of furniture and knickknacks, I came across the legs of a mannequin randomly laying on a couch. I didn’t really think anything of them until I went through two more rooms full of even more furniture and found the upper half of the body (sans the left arm and right middle finger). The loss of the middle finger was what spooked me. Well, not really terribly, but all I could think as I laughed out loud (people stared) was who did she lose THAT fight with last night?

I am conflicted about this. Alabama Furniture has very nice pieces in great shape but they are so overpriced that it is hard for me to take them seriously. If I want to buy a $ 700 couch, then I am going to a serious furniture store not a place with a dirty floor, potholed parking lot and windows you can’t even see through. I mean, come on. You are in the Heights, not West U. Although the pieces did look next to new, they weren’t new and in no way justified the price tags.
I didn’t stick around to bother negotiating because I don’t think I could have done it with a straight face.
