Camerata at Paulie’s

I have been here twice. The crowds are mostly young white yuppie wannabes (mostly women) that talk more than they drink. This place can get fairly loud but not like those seedy dive bars that you wouldn’t be caught dead in. The wines are pricey if you want the best but I usually stick with the wines that cost around 7 – 10 dollars. But you get what you pay for so I wasn’t all that crazy about the selection. The wine tastes a bit stale for my personal tastes and standards. You can order some finger food that helps the wine taste better but most of the patrons had no preference for the food there. This place would be decent for a couple that wants to celebrate a special occasion. The bartenders (men) are service-​oriented but not pushy. They seem to be alert about who needs water and who does not after a few rounds of drinking. I wouldn’t consider this a spot for a single guy because the girls that congregate in this place are fairly pretentious and uninteresting which is typical in that part of town. I would go there simply for a better selection of wine if you find yourself on that stretch of Westheimer road during afterhours. I can’t readily recommend this place nor can I not recommend it.

I love this place! Although be warned, a glass of wine here is pricey compared to most places… mine cost $ 16 and it wasnt anything fancy.
The place itself though is set up to where there’s small tables, large tables, nice leather couches, and a bar. So there’s plenty of seating options for both small and large groups. It’s overall a good plave to grab a drink with a friend or a few friends.

Wine list is hard to rival. They host two Gamays, which are near impossible to find. Service knowledge of the wine list is impressive (total understatement). Full size meat and cheese plate was phenomenal, though I wish a tad more cheese was provided. Fresh bread, REAL green olives, cucumbers are great additions to the plate.
Vibe of the place is low light, soft music, but can easily get loud as the night goes on (and libation intake grows).

We’ve been wanting to check out this place for a while extremely happy we finally did. Our server Renny was outstanding. We arrived about 4:00 on a Saturday Renny informed us of the fabulous happy hour which consistent of the wine bottles opened the night before. You have a choice of half a glass or a regular pour. I explained to Renny my likes and dislikes and she was on point every time. We went with a meat and cheese board that we let Renny have total control over and once again she did not disappoint. The house made pickles and cranberry jam added a fresh twist.
I am looking forward to our return trip. Such a nice vibe for Houston. Clean and sleek. They also have an impressive craft beer selection and tall boy Lone Star beer. How could you not go wrong with all of that?

I finally tried this place after wanting to for ages and I’m very happy I did. The place has a great ambiance and it’s great for groups. Good service, decent food and I’m definitely excited to come back and try more!

Wow what a fabulous place. Comfortable but eclectic. Clean and very high end in appearance. No need to be a «know it all wine snob» here because the service you receive will educate you if you are unsure. Our professional server «Renney» was very detailed and educated about the selections offered. She was also attentive and kind. We told her what we like and she brought out some wonderful wines. We also asked her to choose for us for our Charcuterie Board and she did a fabulous job. This is a must do, they even offer some happy hour wine glass prices on day before opened bottles. Can’t wait to go back.

I recently had the opportunity to go to Camerata for drinks after dinner at Paulie’s. The space is very dimly light, intimate, and eclectically decorated. Our server was very knowledgeable about wine and was able to give us really great suggestions based on our tastes. I really enjoyed my experience at Camerata and will definitely return in the future!

This is a quaint wine bar that is good for small groups or for a date with your S/​O. The wine selection is extensive, however the food menu is not. I was disappointed in the lack of food options (I hadn’t eaten dinner before I went). I’m not sure if you can order food at Paulie’s and bring it into Camerata, but if so, I’ll have to keep that option in mind. The waitstaff is friendly and super attentive. My water glass was always full. At the end of the evening, our server split our checks, but we were able to pay with our credit cards using square. Somehow, the server was able to split it digitally so that we just swiped and signed on the iPad. That was pretty cool. Of course because of the location, parking can be an issue, but that’s how it goes with businesses in this area.

Held an event at the place on a Monday night. 29 people. So we packed the place on a Monday night. There were 5 other patrons. We wanted to have a short speech about all of us coming together to support clean technology, The manager’s response was to crank up the volume of the music. Most of us were new to Camerata’s at Paulie’s. We were not a rowdy crowd. It was around 6pm. It was all business suits that were networking. I’m still stunned by his action. We spent a lot of money prior to the music. There is no way I can recommend this place. There are so many good wine bars in this city. I would recommend the Tasting Room, Vinoteca Poscol, Sonoma, and Beckrew.

My last review was so old that it was time to update.
Camerata has done it. It’s changed the face of the wine world in Houston. It has somehow managed to get everyone to take wine a bit more seriously without adding any uppity pretension. Each staff member is not only well-​versed in the wines on the list, but they are well-​versed on wine in general. A conversation with any one of them makes abundantly clear that Camerata is a training ground for wine industry elite. While most bars and restaurants are happy if their servers can pronounce half the wines on their list, this staff is preparing to go to sommelier competitions. Camerata staff members are the benchmark in Houston.
And the customer gets to reap the reward.
Now the caveat. If having a knowledgeable sommelier pouring your wine doesn’t matter and you’d rather just throw back a couple of cheap glasses of whatever, you can find other places that will cater to you about as well as Camerata (and frankly, you might even save a dollar or two). But if you want to figure out the who/​what/​when/​where/​why of that juice in your glass in a cool environment with folks at the very top of their game sommelier-​wise, you can’t do better than here.
Camerata has also recently upped their food offerings, with some delicious antipasti things like kettle chips with lemon aioli and anchovies. Try the foie gras mousse. Yum. The cheese plate is still offered and it’s still delicious.
As evidenced by the national attention and writeups in various magazines, Camerata is truly one of the jewels in the food/​wine scene of Houston.

Was there on Friday and is Great place to have some wine and cheese, is a great place to have a quite time and talk. Was there early in the night so not sure how loud will get later but we will be back for sure.

This turned out to be a great evening at the perfect low key spot! We really enjoyed this wine bar. I almost felt like I was in another city. It feels divey, eclectic, even romantic dare I say and love the dim lit atmosphere. Considering I have a low alcohol tolerance, I liked that they had half glasses. We just came back from dinner so we didn’t try any of the food, but we have every intention of going back, so I can’t wait to try their cheese & charcuterie board! Renney our server was great and put up with Matt’s jokes so we thought she was a trooper! We enjoyed the wines and again great low key atmosphere

I’m not a wine connoisseur but the servers are professional and did a great job explaining the options. The menu was creative and I enjoyed the vibe. The meat and cheese options complemented the vino. Will be back…

Beautiful interior, excellent service, delicious food and wine. I came here with a couple of girlfriends and it was cozy and inviting, perfect for girl talk on a Thursday night for a few hours. Our friendly waitress made sure to check up on us every once in a while and to make sure our glasses were full (of wine or water) and we went with the flow and never felt rushed or like we needed to leave. If I were in the area more often, I’d come back and try their other accouterments.

We spent a very nice romantic evening here. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We snagged a really great seat near the large picture window near the front which allowed us to see outside as well as good vantage point to see all areas inside, but still be tucked away & cozy. Very simple décor, very comfortable and inviting. We head a nice red wine called Love Part Deux which was very good. The Charcuterie plate had generous portions. This is a nice place for a date or ladies night out.

Camerata is a hip wine bar next to (and owned by) Paulie’s. The interior is very chic, with a hipster vibe all around. They have excellent bar tenders with great suggestions, so if you aren’t sure what you want or are looking for something new, just ask! They are more than happy to help recommend something.
There’s always ample seating, which is a huge plus. I hate it when I’m at a happy hour and there just aren’t enough seat for everyone… Not a problem here! I love the personal attention you get from the bar tenders, as I rarely know what I want to drink on any given day.
The oddest part about this place, and I hope they change, is the bathroom. There’s one bathroom for both men and women… But there’s two stalls inside, one for men and one for women. So at any given time, you might be sharing a very private moment with a random stranger of the opposite sex. It’s just a little too odd for me, thank you!

This little spot is quaint and hip! We came in for a glass of vino on a weeknight. It was pretty chill with a handful of patrons around the bar and at various tables.
The bartenders are very helpful in guiding you and helping select a glass or bottle of wine. We were able to sample before buying without even having to ask. Both of our selections were on point.
Great happy hour spot or a place to gather for wine and snakes. No liquor served so be in the mood for a great vino!

I’m not a big wine drinker but a friend of mine wanted to check out this place and I have heard good things about Camerata at Paulie’s, so why not? We got there around 7ish on a Friday night and it wasn’t packed at all. My guess is that most of the customers are next door still having a nice dinner before coming here for the after dinner wine-​ing. We sat at the bar and the bartender introduce himself and we asked for suggestions. I suggested a bottle as my friend wanted something Bubbly and the bartender suggested a bottle that’s in a price range that’s acceptable and would taste good.
We had good time chatting as it wasn’t crowded so we could still hear each other. But as time passes, when there’s more people in the bar, it did get a little loud and maybe I was getting a bit tipsy where both of us need to raise our voice level a bit. We did get hungry and decided to try their salami and cheese. I choose 2 meats and asked what cheese would go great with it, and Kelly, one of the employee there, suggested the 2 cheese and we went with that. I wasn’t expecting awesome fig jam, olives, homemade pickled cucumber slices, and almonds along with the cheese and meat. The salami and cheese definitely tasted good with the wine and the Common Bond bread was top notch.
Over all I had a good time because this is definitely a good place for dating and meeting with friends who like to drink wines.

My favorite wine bar of all time! I like that it’s low key, and I never have to yell to speak. The bartenders are very attentive and know their wine! I never know what I want, but with a few questions from the bartender, they’re able to give me exactly what I’m looking for.
My boyfriend and I came in the other day to celebrate our 1 year anniversary and had mentioned it to our bartender. While looking at the menu, he already poured us two glasses of champagne — on the house. It was a great gesture, and we both appreciate it. Camerata is dear to our hearts since it was also where we had our first date, a year before.

Pretty cool wine bar in a pretty cool area. It felt like home, because home for me is my hipster Indy neighborhood.
Every employee knows their stuff on wine — we even got a history lesson on the wine one of our guys ordered. I felt very high brow here, maybe even a little too high class for me. Definitely a chill environment with amazing wine, amazing service. Don’t go for anything else other than wine and their cheese plates. Our guy knew exactly when someone was in need of another beverage [ESP?!].
