This place is out of business! I went by the other day as I’m always in search of a new coffee shop… and they were completely vacant.

I tried looking for this place for about 15 minutes. I drove up and down the street making endless U-turns and finally gave up and just parked on a side street. So I started my search on foot. When I finally found it was just a tiny little sign on the window. I tried calling but the phone number is disconnected. Now that I have internet access I figured out that the site is also down. I don’t know if it is closed or not since there was still furniture inside but for wasting 30 minutes of my day you get 1 star.

I have to agree with the last review about the experience just a little strange… but not in a bad way. There was only a young couple in there besides me, who I think were staying in the B&B, so the place was super quiet. This made it excellent for studying, which is why I went there in the first place. The coffee is run of the mill, but the homemade cookie 2 pack for a dollar was A+. There owners were also extremely nice and asked what I wanted on the TV or satellite radio, I opted just to leave it on the jazz station for studying purposes. I gave them 5 stars because of the excellent service, very clean facilities and low prices… I can live with not perfect coffee hold the attitude.

Coming to Demitasse was a kind of a strange experience. My girlfriend and I like to go out to coffee houses to study, for a change of surroundings and to eliminate distractions. This one certainly had no distractions. We arrived a little after noon on a Monday; off peak hours to be sure. Still, the place was eerily empty. There was no one in at all, not even behind the counter. Apparently at that time of day, one lady works both the coffee bar and the desk in the adjoining B&B. We stayed, studying and soaking up the nice but unremarkable coffee and the free but password protected WiFi, for about three hours. A while to spend in a coffee house, but we had some serious studying to do. Still, in the entire time we were there, we were the only customers. It was a little eerie. Despite this, or even perhaps BECAUSE of this, it was a terrific place to study. I’m giving it four stars. It looses two, having average coffee(though at a pretty good price) but gets one of those back for being undiscovered by the noisy, coffee-houses-are-clubs scene. Also, the place was immaculately clean and the lady working the counter, once I found her, was very friendly.

Ever since I heard Demitasse opened in October, I’d been meaning to try it, just could never find it. Finally, two days ago as I was creeping along Westheimer in my g-ride(old hoodoo Camry missing two hubcaps and now part of a bush stuck to the back bumper … I ran over my neighbor’s garden. I left it on my car cause, well, i think it adds character.) Anyhow, creeping along Lower Westheimer I finally spotted it. It’s directly across from Avant Garden! Noted. So I came here today to get some work done. So, I snagged parking in the front, which is scarce, but it’s good to know that they have additional parking in the back. I definitely liked what I saw walking in. Hard wood floors, shelves stocked with books, fans, plenty of windows. A real«homey» feel. I chatted up with the barista, Carl, who is also the owner. I quickly learned that Demitasse Net Café is also connected/part of a boutique hotel(houses ten rooms). You would NEVER guess that. It looks deceivingly small on the outside, but it’s there! In the mood for tea, i went with then Honeybush. Being the only one in the quite café, Carl and I chatted some more, and he even brought me coupon for a free cup of the daily brew on my next visit. I also got to try their bestselling smoothie, the green apple. Yum-o! Sweet yet tart and topped with caramel, I’d order this on my own any day. If you’re needed to break from all of the other overcrowded coffee houses with somewhat sketchy service, check out Demitasse. Oh, they also have a business/conference room so you can book meetings in there. It’s equipped with fax/copy machine, notary services … and they even do book clubs and such. I only knocked off one star because they do have free Wi-Fi, but it was a bit slow. Had to use my Verizon card. But I’ll be back. Perhaps hold the next Unilocal office hours here!
