DTG OPERATIONS dba THRIFTY CAR RENTAL

First off, I got into an accident in my rental. I was not at fault & the driver of the other vehicle ran a light & was cited for it. The rental car was inoperable and I was injured in the vehicle. I did all of the necessary protocol in contacting Dollar after the wreck where they dispatched a wrecker to come get the rental car. The Dollar at Hobby would not close me out because I had not yet filled out an incident report form. I physically went up there to do so as soon as I had gotten better and was charged for days I didn’t even have the vehicle. To make matters worse — they charged me $ 10/​gallon for gasoline that was not in the car. Mind you — the car was not driveable, so how am I to fill it up? To add salt to a wound, I got charged $ 100 in additional charges for a vehicle I did not get to finish using, for an accident I was not at fault for. And they didn’t even have the audacity to do it while I was there, but sent me away saying they would send me an email to close me out. I then called the VERY POOR customer service and waited for 19 minutes on hold, only for the woman to tell me too bad and she hung up on me! I will never use Dollar/​Thrifty again and you shouldn’t either!

Last time I am ever renting from Thrifty. Too many times I have shown up, as a Blue Chip member, with a reservation made weeks in advance, and they don’t have cars. Had to wait an hour today. Clerk said there was a convention in town. Don’t think they understand what a reservation is. I rent a car about once a month, and end up here because of price, but its not worth the aggravation. NEVER NEVER AGAIN

My situation was a bit different. I was actually sideswiped by a Dollar rental in my vehicle and was told to call DTG Operations or SELF INSURANCE in the mid-​west. Dollar is also Thrifty, and they’re both owned by Hertz. Nobody wanted to claim ownership of the vehicle that hit me, and I was told to go through my insurance by Dollar and Hertz.

My husband used this agency in Salt Lake City this morning and said that the agent was rude and charged him an UNGODLY fee because my husband did not have a 2^nd phone number! I suggested that SLC airport evict this company because this agency is misrepresenting the beautiful state of Utah. STAY AWAY from this company!

My co-​workers were renting a car, I was sitting in the waiting area watching the other agent. A little walked in just like us from the airport. She was a little frazzled. She was looking for her license etc… She mentioned to the agent she had singed up from blue chip but had some issue. The agent made a smart a$$ remark. The other agent working along side of her said «really, stop». Obviously, her co-​worker recognize she was being a jerk. The lady was still looking through her purse for her license. She finally finds it and hands it to the agent. She flung it accidently like I said because she was frazzled. The lady was looking in her purse trying to re-​organize all the stuff she just took out of her purse. The agent behind the counter just looked at the women like she was ready to choke her. I was fearful for her. The lady said to the agent did you get that? The agent didn’t want to pick up the license, and said oh the license you just threw at me? The lady said I am sorry I didn’t mean to do that. Oh yeah by the way the agent was eating the entire time she was helping the lady.
I will never rent a car from Dollar/​Thrifty ever again or allow any of my co-​workers I am traveling with to rent a car from them.

0 STARS! This is the most unprofessional poorly run car rental agency I have ever had the displeasure of booking with. On 10÷03÷14 we had a confirmed reservation. Upon arrival to Hobby Airport in Houston there was no one behind the counter. We waited 30 minutes for the rental shuttle which is supposed to come every 10 to 15 minutes. When we got on the shuttle the driver told us there were no cars. When we reach the rental agency about 30 people were ahead of us in line and some were waiting for three hours for cars that were not on the lot. Some had prepaid but all had confirmed reservations. There was one person behind the counter and no one helping any of the customers. Despite our confirmed reservation we were told that there were no cars. An anonymous employee at this location told us this is a frequent occurrence. DO NOT BOOK AT THIS RENTAL AGENCY. Save yourself the headache and give your business elsewhere.

Also known ad Dollar, DGT Operations. This place is awful! First when you check in they tell you you have to get a toll transponder for $ 12.00 a day. If you don’t get it they charge you a $ 15.00 administration fee for every toll you go thru in addition to the toll the State of Texas charges. Ridiculous. We refused it. Never went thru a toll, They let us pick out any car in the aisle in the full size car category. After we put our luggage in the first car and started it up a message came on that the tire pressure as low, we had it checked out and there was a screw in the tire. Back to the aisle, took our luggage out and put in another car only to find the air conditioning was not working. Took our luggage out of that found a Mazda, which was below our category and had high mileage and away we went. When we returned the car the person at the desk screwed up the paperwork and I had a hold on my credit card for an additional week. Would never go back. Terrible experience.

I’m giving Thrifty Car Rental in St Paul, MN airport the lowest rating that I can and even that is too high. Without going into a lot of detail I rented a Ford Focus 8÷22÷13 to drive from Minneapolis to northern Minnesota. Shortly after I left Minneapolis on the freeway the trunk lid flew up. As I was in heavy traffic I finally stopped and closed it. In a drive of 4.5 hours the lid flew up 10 times and the alarm went off each time. I finally turned off the alarm by hitting OK on the steering wheel. I called the Airport location for help and was told because I was too far away they couldn’t send a replacement and agreed that I duct tape the trunk. That worked for awhile but with the extreme heat it kept pulling the tape and would open. The attitude from those I contacted was «oh well there’s really nothing that we can do» When I returned home I called and was connected to a person who claimed to be the CEO and said they would only reimburse $ 10.61 or $ 20 in vouchers because I kept the car for a week. How was I to change it as they said I was too far away? She didn’t even know where Minneapolis was. I will never rent from Thrifty or Dollar again as I had a problem with Dollar on a previous rental. Cheapest really isn’t the way to go.

I wish I could give less than one star. The service was absolutely appalling. After being verbally degraded for not taking the «generous» upgrade offer which was twice the cost, from the crook behind the desk, and paying the taxes on the rental which cost almost as much as the car itself, we end up paying 3 times what they had promised us in the reservation. After waiting a half an hour we finally get the car, and it is in a lower class than we had payed for, so we have to argue with the manager for a half hour to get a $ 53 refund (not as much as they overcharged) and a handwritten promise that they would fix the cost when we return the car, I’m surprised he didn’t make us pinky promise. We left feeling like we had just gone back through TSA security, but this time there were cavity searches.
Never go to this car rental establishment, do yourself a favor and borrow a bicycle from a homeless person under the nearby bridge, you’d have a better chance getting your money’s worth.

If I could give negative stars I would! I rented a car back in April and got in a minor fender bender. I have full coverage insurance, so a couple weeks after the accident Dollar called me and said that the amount for total loss was $ 405 and to pay them directly versus what would have been $ 500 on my insurance deductible. It is now 4 months later and I get a letter (first notice of any kind) in the mail saying there is a balance owed of $ 1351.24! This would have been nice before I paid the $ 405 to you and now I have to finalize all this with my insurance and do the $ 500 deductible! They also have excessive fees on this report like a loss of use at $ 47 a day when I rented the car for $ 20 a day! When I called, «Anthony» the Damage Recovery Agent was very rude on the phone and said «well I can charge you more if you like» as if it was a threat! He then said he is going to put it in collections and can do that right now when I JUST got the notice two days ago. NEVER AGAIN will I rent from this company again! Rude service and a questionable business that I hope people stay away from!

I rented this week here and will never use Dollar again. The staff are indifferent and do not care about customer service. Waited in line for many minutes (20) while staff casually chatted away with customers and ignored me.

this location is now 24 hours, which is a plus (one star for that). The shuttle driver was SUPER awesome went over and beyond to ensure that I was taken care of!!! (one star for Michael). I arrived in around 11:15pm and their were no other customers. I was greeted and asked for my info (typical, so no stars awarded). As soon as Donald (snooty counter dude) saw my order his reply was «Ohhh you have the „lock and low“ rate, you know what that means right? We get to choose the car so you might wanna just upgrade!» WTF, with the lock and low rate, you get a certain size vehicle or higher, the whole point is that you may get an upgrade without even paying for it! So of course my response was, «i don’t understand why I would automatically upgrade because you get to choose the vehicle. his response: well you’ll be getting a grand marquis. my response: ok. his response: have you seen that car? because once you see it, I’m sure you will want to upgrade. (so I’m there for 3 seconds and all this dude has is «get her to upgrade on his mind», that is really poor customer service! Once he realized they had no more grand marquis’ left, he put me in a minivan as a punishment for not upgrading. WTH, dude are you serious!!! going from a compact car to a 2010 dodge caravan is definitely an upgrade, so thanks jerk because I had 3 suitcases, a stroller and a shipped a TV in a huge box so that was absolutely what I needed (no way would have transported all that in a compact car) what a dumb-​ass! Next he tried to upsale me on the insurance, when i wouldn’t go for that, he got all pissed again stating, ok, if something happens, you will have to pay that 500 or 1000 deductible, my comeback: well, that would happen if i had insurance to cover your vehicle, lol, and maybe i enjoy living on the wild side, so keep your upsale, give me a damn car seat and have a great «effffn» life, you idiot!!! (didn’t say the last part, but i was thinking it). I mostly laughed the entire time because it was truly a comical moment, he was visibly upset, refused to thank me or even to tell me to have a good evening and this guy is the face of the company, all front line people are, so since the rates weren’t really all that great anyway, I will NOT be renting from them again… no stars for this entire weird and silly experience but Unilocal doesn’t rate that low. Almost forgot to mention that the Donald was texting the first 3 minutes that I was standing there, dude, really? could you be any more unprofessional?

Alert, Alert… MINI coopers Do not Float in Houston… I had an emergency my friend went with me and rented a car under his name to help me out under the situation i was. I got the rate of 34.00 dollars next day i went back to change the reservation under my name and the lady at the counter said i will not give you the same rate you now have to pay 99. dollars a day to exchange the name of the contract. it was very disappointing that in the time of a need people take advantage of you. I am a Blue Chip member and this has officially force me to make my decision in canceling my blue chip membership. I will now have to choose a better service and better company. Do not rent with this group or car rental agency. I have had better luck with enterprise.

My first and last purchase with this location of Thrifty.
First thing you need to know is that Dollar and Thrifty are in the same location. Two entities under one roof. If you make a reservation for either, whichever line you stand in; they can do a search and find it. When doing on-​line reservations, best to have 1 – 2 at rental shops you prefer to use. Just in case. Never know when the rental shop will run out of the car types that you wanted or you realize that the customer service agent is incompetent with too much attitude, etc. The customer service was so horrid. There wasn’t any service (at least not at the counter), there were two ladies in their early 20s, full of stupidity & attitude. The one I had, did the head bob a few times. HATE THAT! They were the typical of every stereotype of «unable to work with» The one I was working with, I thought would be the better. I just got off a plane which was supposed to arrive 3 hours earlier, I was now late to my hotel where I needed to shower, prepare, suit up and head to an event. Still, I held it together and gave her my best business face and pleasant attitude. Asked a few questions about my rental, like. is the car I requested available, what are the rates to bump it up to the next car class. As if you were only allowed to ask two questions and otherwise had to wait for them to offer information to you, it was pulling teeth to get responses from her and when she did respond it was with fierce snotty attitude. This is all after her hearing about my crappy traveling day. No pity or care. She could of cared less. Her attitude worsened when I declined their insurance and tollway pass. Strange I thought; how she addressed me with a condescending tone about my naivety of Houston. They offer 4 insurance packages starting at $ 20 dollars. Since the car I use back at home was a recent purchase, the loan company requested I have the best rockstar insurance. I’m covered for rentals. She took 5 minutes to point out to me that Houston is a dangerous place and you would be a fool not to buy it. Judging from her words, her constant try at selling me on it, I think that she probably gets some kind of spiff for every rental that buys their insurance and other extra services. She asked if I wanted to rent a toll tag alike an I-​Pass, prepaid toll way pass. They charge $ 8.99 per day. Sounds good? The average toll to get into Houston is $ 1.50, but if you do a little homework, there are ways to get around the city and bypass the tolls. After three days in Houston, my tollway total was $ 11 dollars for three days of travel. Glad I opted out of the pass. Finally she desperately tried to sell me on getting a GPS. Screw that, with the daily fees you pay, a person could go on-​line and get one and save in the long run.
There are so many other crappy conversations that went on, but I’ll save it. Save yourself some hassle, it’s not always the best choice to pick the cheapest choice. Oh. and they didn’t have the rental I requested, nor had they any ETA on getting me a car I would like to drive. I had to take a crappy little Ford Focus with balding tires which slipped in the rain. Yes, balding tires, we did the coin test, visibly bald tires. Car came without an alarm and it could only be unlocked from the drivers side. Not even a button or latch to open the trunk from the inside.
Garbage. I was so irritated with the service, I immediately called corporate. Outside while waiting to get the rental car from the lot, as other customers also followed outside, everyone had something ill to say about the counter girls.
